Hello beauties 🙂 I am coming dangerously close to the end of my first Olehenriksen value set. About a month ago I purchased the Glow Brightly set which I believe is/was a limited edition. This was my first real skincare regimen and the results I’ve gotten from using the products in this set have exceeded my expectations, especially since it’s only been about 3 weeks. The set came with OLEHENRIKSEN - Truth Serum®, OLEHENRIKSEN - Banana Bright Eye Crème, OLEHENRIKSEN - Goodnight Glow Retin-ALT Sleeping Crème, and OLEHENRIKSEN - C-Rush™ Brightening Gel Crème. I know for a fact that I want to continue using the Truth Serum and I really love the other products it came with as well. I 100% credit this set with really brightening my complexion and helping nurse my skin from very dry to normal and occasionally dry. The eye creme almost completely erased my under eye dark circles... which was the most surprising and exciting part for me. My makeup application has never been easier and I actually enjoy putting on my makeup now... and going barefaced isn’t as big of a deal as it used to be. I do have sensitive skin, and none of these products irritated it at all. With all of that being said, I’m trying to figure out what to do when I am out of the products. My body in general adapts to things pretty quickly and I’m not sure if that goes for skincare as well, but I’m afraid that if I buy more of these same products they will just stop working pretty soon. Like I said I’ll continue to use the Truth Serum forever, but I want to know if maybe I should switch to the OLEHENRIKSEN - Sheer Transformation® Perfecting Moisturizerfor daytime instead of the C-Rush. In comparing the two (by just reading their descriptions and ingredients on their website) it seems like the C-Rush focuses more on brightening as to where the Sheer Transformation moisturizer focuses more on dark spots, and evening out skin tone/texture. I also noticed that the sheer transformation is designed for day and night use vs the C-rush only for the day. I love the glow I get from C-Rush, but I definitely still have some hyperpigmentation (dark eyelids and the outer corners of my eyes are darker than the rest of my skin) and my skin tone could use some evening out still. Unfortunately I switched exfoliants a couple days ago, and today after using the new exfoliant two days in a row i have noticed new dry patches... and they feel pretty rough to the touch. They are small but noticeable enough to where you could see my makeup flaking off in those areas which hasn’t happened in a long time. My c-rush moisturizer sadly didn’t even help that. I was using Tatcha Enzyme Rice Powder and I ran out before I had the chance to get more so I bought a travel size of Dermalogica Daily Microfoilant. I had heard this is the closest thing you can get to the Tatcha powder. Anyway the daily microfoliant is slightly rougher but it’s the same thing essentially and it’s meant for daily use. It doesn’t hurt my skin in any way, but it does dry it out and the Tatcha powder actually made my skin feel extremely soft. So that’s sad... and I’m realizing that I either have to drive 10 miles to the only Sephora that actually carries it as a stand alone item otherwise I have to buy the best sellers set again for 60 bucks just to get a mini size of it. That’s the only product I want so I’m not paying 60 dollars to get a lil guy. Anyway- should I switch to the “Transformation” line of eye cream and moisturizer, and add the night serum? The eye cream claims to help with puffiness which is still a problem for me and I feel like the moisturizer will help with my dark areas and hyperpigmentation. Is this any more Moisturizing than the C-rush?? Is there a value set I can buy that will contain most if not all of these items for me to try? Should I use the sheer transformation moisturizer at night and continue with C-Rush during the day? I’m looking specifically for the moisturizer, eye cream and night serum. I’m honestly terrified to try a different brand but I will admit I want my Tatcha enzyme rice powder back!! Sorry this is all over the place, but this is kinda how my mind works 24/7 🙂 thank you!
@ellex0 I forgot to mention to always use sunscreen when outdoors especially when you are using Retinol and Vit C products in your skin care regimen. Exposure to the sun without protection can cause reverse reaction to your skincare regimen-darkening of spots and irritation
@uzi1234 I forgot to mention in that long post that I recently did start using a standalone SPF about two weeks ago 🙂 unfortunately I was a little cheap in my first choice of SPF and it completely tore my face up but lucky for me my moisturizer helped with that pretty quickly. It wasn’t until I started using the microfoliant that I saw and felt dry patches that don’t seem to want to go away. Last night was the night I’d normally use my Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Retinoid Night Oil 1.18 oz/ 35 mL(I use it every other night) but I took a break from it and just used belif Aqua Bomb Sleeping Mask 2.53 oz/ 75 mLaalone and so far upon rinsing that off this morning my dry patches seem to be a lot better!
@ellex0 I have dry skin and also use the Ole Henriksen line. I loooovvvveeee the Truth Serum and the Vit C Face Cream. I also have used the Nurture Me moisturizing Cream which is really good for dry patches. Exfoliating is not really important in my routine for my dry skin. I usually exfoliate maybe once a week with Transforming Walnut Scrub. If I exfoliate more than once a week I will start to get dry patches. I dont really like the Sheer transformation lotion/creams because i dont like the smell. Thats just a personal preference though. If u want to purchase more Ole Henriksen at a discount I suggest you go to instagram and search beautydealsbff. She has a link that will save you $15 off a $35 purchase I believe.
@uzi1234 Oh my goodness thank you $15 dollars off makes a big difference right now as I just broke my bank buying Christmas presents lol. Is that online only? I’m afraid I’ll run out before something gets delivered especially since Christmas is right around the corner. For me, surprisingly when I started using the Tatcha rice powder every day, I actually noticed my skin getting less dry. Could be because it’s SO gentle... I need it back in my life! But I have experienced dry patches in the past for exfoliating daily with other less gentle products. With the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant I had read everywhere it’s gentle enough for every day use even for the driest of skin... so that was disappointing to get new dry patches from just using it two days. 😞
@ellex0They ship pretty quickly but as you said it is the holidays so may take longer. Regarding the toner-i have tried plenty of different toners and none have worked for me. It just dries out my skin no matter how much moisturizer I apply afterwards. I hope you have a better experience. Regarding the Tatcha-its my daughters holy grail!!! She loves it. Ive repurchased for her 4 times already. She has combo sensitive acne prone skin. I have used it when I ran out of my Cerave Moisture Wash and I didnt have any reaction to it either.
@uzi1234 I really wish they had a mini bottle of the toner lol I’m all about my minis!! After putting on my makeup this morning I realized how badly I miss Tatcha even more... i did not use anything different with my makeup and today it stuck SO BAD to my dry patches and my damp beauty blender would like, wipe my makeup off and make it look blotchy instead of actually blending it. It took me way too long to fix it enough to feel comfortable leaving the house. By the time I got to work and looked in my compact mirror it went right back to dry and patchy and flakey. Somehow I now have large pores showing that I’ve never seen before. My face looks cakey... it’s so bad 😞 idk what to do... It has to be something else. It has to be but I’m not sure what it could possibly be considering I’m not using different makeup.
@ellex0 Do you have a moisturizing mask that you can use tonight?? Maybe that can help along with extra moisturizer on that area before you got to sleep. When my skin has dry patches I use Cerave moisturizing cream. Its really thick but comfortable on the skin. I purchase mine from Target or a drugstore.
@uzi1234 I do have a sleeping mask it’s the belif Aqua Bomb Sleeping Mask 2.53 oz/ 75 mLand I used it last night specifically to get rid of my dry patches. Today when I rinsed it off my face was silky smooth and I didn’t feel the dry patches AT ALL but then of course I used my daily microfoliant, then my SPF, then my Truth Serum and the rest of my usual stuff... it’s strange though because when I put on my C-rush it was a little sticker than normal... for my primer I’ve been using FARSÁLI - Unicorn Essence Antioxidant Primer Serumfor MONTHS and I always use it over my moisturizer and have never had this problem. The farsali is actually what has made my foundation apply so perfectly. Today, literally the second I started with my foundation it looked weird and then as I was blending it out, my dry patches reappeared out of nowhere and my foundation actually didn’t want to stick to those areas at all. Like, I would go over them with my beauty blender with foundation and the foundation would NOT stick. I also noticed that my concealer was extra sticky and hard to blend too... like it would dry up pretty much the second it hit my face and it wouldn’t move. I ended up having to blend it really hard with my fingers and even then it didn’t blend that well. You can actually see where I applied my concealer over my foundation. There’s a clear line. Usually it blends seamlessly... and my under eyes look more dry than ever. I truly do not understand. The only things I can think of are the microfoliant, and the fact that last night I used the sleeping mask alone without another moisturizer under it. Usually I put my OLEHENRIKSEN - Goodnight Glow Retin-ALT Sleeping Crèmeon first, let it soak in and then apply the mask. I used it alone last night to see if I could just get the full effect of the sleeping mask... and my face looked and felt great when I rinsed it off. I’ve read that sometimes layering it with another moisturizer can defeat the purpose so... idk. And out of nowhere on my nose I have giant pores that are pretty visible and I have them on my cheeks too. I’ve NEVER had an issue with pores in my life but my face looks extremely cakey, textured, and has lots of visible pores now. I’m so upset....
@ellex0 I think maybe you need to stop that exfoliant. Stop for a few days until the dry patches are gone. All i can recommend is to moisturize as soon as you get out of the shower or when you wake in the morning and then again on your problem areas before you put on makeup. If there has been any weather changes that can be effecting your skin as well.
@uzi1234 Yeah I think I’m pretty done with the exfoliant. I’m so disappointed, I thought I had found a decent alternative to my Tatcha rice powder and I have heard amazing things about this specific daily microfoliant. At this point I will for sure be driving a little extra to get to a different Sephora location so that I can go buy my rice powder and camellia oil cleanser. The only Sephora near me is inside a JCPenney and they have nothing compared to the bigger locations. I’ve spent a lot of time and money getting my skin to look as great as it has lately, so I’ll do what I gotta do. I always moisturize right after the shower and before makeup, and Here in AZ the past week it’s been quite a bit colder in the mornings. I walk my dog every morning so the cooler air definitely could be part of the problem. Maybe I need an extra moisturizer for the day?
@ellex0 You can try an oil and moisturizer. Maybe you have some coconut or rosehip oil lying around. Theres another primer/moisturizer that i realllly love. Bobbie Brown Enriched Face Base. Omg its so good. I can use this by itself or on top of moisturizer. But its on the more expensive side. I believe its $65 but its so goooood.
@uzi1234 @cianni oh my goodness I woke up this morning and my skin was PEELING. Legit peeling as if I had a sunburn... and they weren’t little flakes. They were large dry patches that straight up were peeling. My face has been dry my whole life but It has NEVER peeled!!! It’s also a lot more red than usual! It feels very tight as well. These are all brand new things to me and I’m not gonna lie I’m panicking a little because I have no idea how to stop it.... I moisturized pretty heavily last night too. I just used the last of my day moisturizer and eye cream too and it was barely enough. I’m at a loss. Money is tight for the next month too. I’m starting to think it might be my SPF?? It’s a mineral SPF because chemical ones burn my face and this one doesn’t but when I put my Truth Serum on over it, it burns!? My Truth Serum never burns. And it becomes very very tacky and sticky! Am I applying my SPF in the wrong order? I thought it gives better protection when directly applied to the skin... I’m using Australian Gold Botanical Tinted Face Sunscreen. Broad Specteum SPF 50. It has great reviews and it was affordable for me.
@ellex0 oh no ok don’t panic! My skin gets quite peely from time to time (usually do to eczema). I am in no way a qualified doctor or dermatologist, but based on what you’re describing, it sounds like the peeling is a reaction to products used. I personally use my spf after all my other products. I use the very reasonably priced Neutrogena Moisture Oil-Free SPF 30. It has a DIN number (unsure if DIN numbers are called that in the US - essentially it’s a number that indicates that a product (all drugs and some OTC drugs) has been tested and approved by the Health Department and is regulated by the government).
I always advocate for wearing SPF but if that is the only thing that you’ve changed prior to having this experience, definitely stop using it. Products should NEVER feel painful or burn heavily when you put them on!
For right now - avoid any oil or petroleum based products, as this can make it worse! Try an aloe based product to help soothe the skin (like you would a sunburn). And whatever you do - don’t touch or exfoliate! If your lie me, the first reaction is to pick, peel and exfoliate but trust me, from personal experience - the more you touch, add products, try to use a fancy moisturizer, maybe a mask... it gets SO much worse!
@cianni Well, now I know that the Vaseline I put on my dry patches last night was probably the worst idea ever. I’m so done with google searches lol. Honestly the point of that was to lock in my moisturizer without wasting any of the other moisturizer that I ended up running out of this morning. Lol. Omg... this is why I’m so active on these boards. I get the best information... but no I’ll never stop using an SPF, and I thought the one I’m using now would be okay since it’s mineral and not chemical and it doesn’t irritate. The only aloe product I have is Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater. I’ve been spritzing my face lightly with that after I get inside from super cold weather and just throughout the day. I hope that’s not making everything worse either!
@cianni Thank goodness!! I was worried but I also didn’t think twice about it because of all the natural ingredients and how beautiful it smells! Are their other products that good or is it just the facial sprays that are? I’ve seen that brand everywhere and I was always super skeptical because it’s so inexpensive compared to the stuff I use now. I considered picking up one of their toners and a moisturizer but I couldn’t figure out which one and I was just really skeptical still lol. I regret not getting the bigger bottle because I’ve had the baby one a week and it’s halfway gone already lol. I use it on my hair too so it’s not like all of that product is going on my face. My skin has calmed down a bit. It’s still pretty red on my cheeks and it feels dry to the touch still... but it’s not flaking anymore... for now... lol. I’m just barefaced today and I’ll be spraying my rosewater throughout the day until I can get more moisturizer.
@ellex0 Oh my goodness!!! Sunscreen should be applied after serum and moisturizer!!!! I think its the serum thats causing the problem because vit c makes your skin sensitive to the sun. Stop the truth serum during the day only use at night with moisturizer if you like. In the morning just moisturize you skin to death and sunscreen. After 2 days see if thats helps. If you like I can send you some samples of the murad spf50 I have and the Cerave moisturizing cream to help along with whatever else I have that I think can help. I just feel so bad!!!! I know that you are panicking right now!!! I cant even imagine how I would feel. Also if you can go to a sephora get a sample of the sunscreen and a heavy moisturizer to see if the sunscreen was really the problem. That might be faster than waiting in my package with the holidays and all. Let me know what you decide!
@uzi1234 you are so sweet thank you so much for that offer. If I weren’t completely out of almost everything I’d totally be up for that but with the holidays I’d be waiting a while lol. So now that I know to use my SPF after, I’ll do that but it’s just so strange to me. My Truth Serum has never burned my face before and it’s always made my skin so soft and no dry patches. I think maybe it’s reacting to the order I’m putting it on... but would it still burn if I use the serum, moisturizer and then the sunscreen?? I just love my Truth Serum in the morning so much. It like wakes me up. I was reading up on the OLEHENRIKSEN - Nurture Me™ Moisturizing Crèmebecsuse I love this line so much and this one claims to be very thick and best for red, dry and sensitive skin. And when I do have a bit of extra money I would love to try an oil. Specifically HERBIVORE - Emerald Cannabis Sativa Hemp Seed Deep Moisture Glow Oi. I’m going to try to make it to Sephora later.. I have a busy day but I just wish they sold more individual mini sized products. Those are more in my budget, not so much the full size ones. Yeah I’m panicking so hard and I’m about to go into work for some overtime and I’ve been contemplating putting on makeup for an hour. Hot mess express over here lol!
I couldnt send pics through dm on my phone so im putting them here. In my opinion the cerave cream feels like its a dupe for the ole henricksen Nurture Me cream without the scent. The Bliss Whatamelon mask is a dupe for the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask. Let me know how it goes and what you decided on. Good luck!!
