Oily Face

My face has always been on the oily side; by that, I mean that every morning I wake up looking like someone bathed my face in highlighter. The Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash helped control it for a long time, but now it's like my skin's used to it and it's becoming overly oily again. Are there any products you guys suggest to help me deal with this? I'm a college student working two jobs so I can't afford anything pricey. The most I could spend on a single product is $20-$25.

RE: Oily Face

I feel your pain! It sounds like you might be stripping your skin byusing a harsh cleanser, causing you to produce more oil. I started using Boscia Purifying Cleansing Gel ($28) ages ago and still swear by it. I love changing things up, but that is the one product I just can't quit! Finding a good moisturizer will help too. Caudalie has been a favorite of mine, also the Josie Maran Light Argan Oil is great too, I know oil seems counter productive, but it does help to balance out the skin and excess oil. Peter Thomas Roth Mattifying Gel was also a game changer forme. Gets rid of oil all day and provides a nice smooth canvas for makeup or a bare face. Good luck girl! I'd love to hear what regimen you land on!

I also have oily skin, I use CeraVe foaming cleanser and CeraVe pm moisturizer.

Re: Oily Face

I also have an oily face, and I've found that a gentle cleanser (I use Cerave Foaming but Neutrogena makes an ultra-gentle cleanser as well) + a light gel moisturizer has helped a lot to not irritate my face further(The CosRX snail essence isn't /technically/ a moisturizer, but I use it as one). Additionally, using a shine-control primer during the day as a last resort. (Benefit + Make Up For Ever make good ones, though they are expensive. I usually only apply it to the worst oily spots, and not my whole face.)

Re: Oily Face

What is the rest of your skincare routine? Cleanser alone usually won't keep oil in check so it helps to add in moisturizing products.

RE: Oily Face

I recently used up the Clinique cleanser for oily/combination skin which I believe it's $20. While I feel like it did control the oil in my skin, I always felt like my skin tightened up and I started to notice some dry patches so I decided not to repurchase. Now I'm using Origins deep pore cleanser ($23) and so far it's controlling my oiliness without drying up my skin. However because my skin is so extremely oily, I still have to blot my face throughout the day, but hey at least is not that bad! I also moisturizer Day and night and I'm obsessed with sheet masks and use them every other day. You can find really good pore minimizing sheet masks for $3-5. Good luck !

is that the best for an oily face?

Re: Oily Face

I can't honestly say any one cleanser has helped my oily face. I have very, very oily skin. I don't mind if I wake up with oily skin, as I'm sleeping anyway. It's the oil during the day I can't stand. Two products that work for me during the day is Peter Thomas Roth's Pore Puddy and Estee Lauder's Pore Minimizer (green bottle).  They're not on the cheap side, but I can't think of anything in drugstore that has helped. I know a lot of products in drugstores have labels that say for oily skin, but none of them have really helped make a noticeable difference, at least for me.

RE: Oily Face

I have the same problem with my face combined with a little bit of breakouts. I use charcoal based products, I change the brand every so often because my face gets used to it and it stops working. I also just started using a moisturizer. It seems to have helped. I don't know if you're using anything for that, but I've heard it works wonders. I know it seems like a bad idea to use moisturizers on an oily face, but your face is producing oil because it is actually dry. It basically overworks itself and creates too much oil. If you keep your face moisturized, your face won't "feel the need" to produce a lot of oil. Hope this helps!
