Niacinamide from the Ordinary

Does the Niacinamide from the Ordinary cause pimples and fungal acne for you all? If so does it clear up? What are you thoughts on it?

Niacinamide from the Ordinary

I just found this post to see if anyone else had a bad reaction. I'm not sure if it was the niacinamide or a combo of that and the zinc, but everytime I tried to use it, I'd get painful dime-sized pimples anywhere I put it. I last used it 2 weeks ago and I'm still dealing with the last two cysts it left. I'm looking for an alternative now. I need something that will help cell turnover and fade ance scars. And ideally, something that will flush out everything under the surface. Unfortunately, TO didn't do it for me 😕

RE: Niacinamide from the Ordinary

Ok thank you!! I will check it out!

Re: Niacinamide from the Ordinary

@andromeda654 Are you sure it's fungal acne? I've never heard of niacinamide or zinc being a fungal acne trigger, but this The Ordinary serum does contain tamarind seed gum which might contain triggering oil. Hmm... have you ever seen a dermatologist for fungal acne? If you think that's what you have, I recommend seeing a derm to get a diagnosis and treatment recommendations. Things that work on true acne aren't effective for fungal acne (which isn't really acne), and there are many ingredients and products you should avoid if you do have fungal acne. A derm can help you with all of that.

I’m not sure if that’s what it’s called. I’ve seen pictures of what people called fungal acne but i’m not sure. I’m also not very experienced so i could be wrong. But my pimples and acne has seemed to increased when i used this.

Re: Niacinamide from the Ordinary

No breakouts while I used it (about 3 months). My skin was awesome, but then I ran out and it was sold out at Sephora and I couldn’t find it anywhere else. My skin freaked out and I had terrible acne for months. I currently use another product with zinc and niacinamide, and my skin calmed back down.

Re: Niacinamide from the Ordinary

@andromeda654 Hello! I liked it. I have dehydrated combo skin. I found that when I didn't use it I broke out really bad, but when I used it I had no problems.

@andromeda654 I've been using The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Oil Control Serum 2 oz/ 60 mL  for over a year with no side effects or dry skin at all

Re: Niacinamide from the Ordinary

Hi @andromeda654!

I personally had a bad experience with The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Oil Control Serum 2 oz/ 60 mL .  It was disappointing since so many people love it and it always sells out fast.

It made my pores look darker and also left some red, scratch like marks between my brows.  It was super drying and dried out my hands and face.  I didn't have problems with it causing acne tho.

RE: Re: Niacinamide from the Ordinary

Hi! I have experienced my face becoming very dry when I put it on, too. I assumed that happened because it was meant for helping with oil.

@andromeda654

It felt too drying for my oily skin.  Oily skin needs hydration as well so I used some other hydrating products to help control oils.
