Moisture barrier repair help

I have mild rosacea and a damaged skin barrier, likely from too much exfoliation before I realized it was an issue.  Any suggestions on repairing it? I wear spf daily but I can’t use cerave and the normally suggested drug store creams cause they break my face out terribly for some reason.

any help on products would be greatly appreciated

Re: Moisture barrier repair help

Hi @MMulroon. I have eczema on face. It’s not quite the same as your situation, but here are some suggestions based on what I currently use to keep my skin calm and hydrated.
The INKEY List Hyaluronic Acid Cleanser 5 oz/ 150 mL

Tower 28 Beauty SOS Intensive Redness Relief Serum 2 oz / 59 mL

Tower 28 Beauty Mini SOS Daily Hypochlorous Acid Spray for Breakouts & Redness 1 oz/ 30 mL

The INKEY List Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Hydrating Face Serum 1 oz/ 30 mL

#SEPHORA COLLECTION All Day Hyaluronic Acid Hydrator Moisturizer 1.69 oz/ 50 mL

I highly recommend Tower 28’s SOS line. It’s helped keep my skin calm and bring down the redness and irritation. Hopefully you find something that will help. Good luck!

Re: Moisture barrier repair help

I did something similar last summer, and it will sound silly, but the best advice I can give is to make your skincare boring. No actives like AHA, BHA (salicylic acid), PHA, retiol (unless prescribed by a dermatologist or other doctor), etc. Use a gentle cleanser (the Neutrogena Ultra Gentle facial cleansers in either the foamy or creamy versions worked well for me, but Sephora has SEPHORA COLLECTION Clean Skin Gel Cleanser with Prebiotics 4.22 oz/ 125 mL as another option), and then moisturizer (depending on your skin type I like the SEPHORA COLLECTION Nourishing Moisturizer with Prebiotics 1.69 oz/ 50 mL , but my mom loves the Neutrogena dye and fragrance free moisturizer). Only washing my face once a day helped, too.

It took about 3 weeks for my skin to calm down after I started doing this. I had some initial breakouts, but things did settle down by the 3 week mark. Also, warm water, not hot or cold,  and don't be rough on your face. Use your fingertips to massage the cleanser in and rinse by splashing or gently wiping with a soft wet cloth. Moisturizer should be applied while skin is still damp.

Hope this helps.
