Looking for under-eye products recs!

Hi everyone! I’m new to this community and app, so not sure if this is the right way to go but I figured why not and ask! I’m looking for an under-eye product and I have no idea where to start. My face gets really dry after showering so I usually put on moisturizer right away. However, I’ve noticed that when I put it under my eyes, 1) my skin burns a little & 2) under my eye is still really dry despite me continuously adding moisturizer on it. I’m looking for something that I can use after showering specifically for that area. Thank you!

@arstern97 , #OMG 😂 I'm Literally On The Hunt For Paula's Choice W/Shea Butter + Peptides For Eyes - Impossible To Find, But Worth The Hassle 😉 I Don't Think Any Of Their Other Lines Work As Well

Re: Looking for under-eye products recs!

Hi @arstern97 and welcome to BIC!

Sounds like you have very dry and sensitive undereyes like I do. (The rest of my face is mostly-dry combo; my oily zone’s just on and around my nose.) Does that skin get flaky, in addition to burning? You might wanna see a dermatologist or other medical doctor about that, if you can. It could just be your full face moisturizer irritating the skin around your eyes (contact dermatitis), but if there’s an underlying skin condition, it’s best to know about that so you’ll know how to treat it going forward.

Meanwhile: have you tried using plain ol’ Vaseline or another petrolatum balm as an eye cream? I sometimes have to apply it along my lower lash line before bed to avoid waking up with angry flakies there. Petrolatum’s the most occlusive (water loss preventing) moisturizing skincare ingredient available (aside from hydrocolloid patches), and it’s unlikely to irritate skin. Tap a little water on your undereye skin to get it damp—not soaking wet—then apply Vaseline to seal in hydration.

You could also try layering a facial oil under Vaseline to help smooth any flakiness and add an extra layer of moisturization. For that, I recommend either The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil for Skin Elascicity 1 oz/ 30 mL or The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Squalane for Skin and Hair Hydration 1 oz/ 30 mL . You won’t need to use much: one drop of either of those two oils is plenty enough to cover both undereyes, with some oil left over to use elsewhere (the skin around your fingernails, for instance).

@arstern97 This is going to sound a little odd, but when my eye area is giving me trouble I like to use the Drunk Elephant Lippe Balm 0.13 oz/ 3.8 g .  It does say right on the packaging that it can be used around the eyes.  I find it to be very gentle, yet very moisturizing.

Re: Looking for under-eye products recs!

For your dry under-eye area, a gentle, hydrating eye cream applied right after showering can help without causing burning. I’ve seen on Schick’s PissedConsumer page that they offer a variety of personal care products praised for quality and innovative ideas, so exploring their moisturizing or soothing skincare items might give you options to find something safe and effective for sensitive skin.
