Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

Everyone seems very positive about this mask. When I use it, it pills on my skin. I've used it on top of other products like SR GG and Luna Oil. Is this why it is pilling? Should you just use it alone? When I tried it that way, it still pulled up. What is best way to use?

Re: Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

I use mine after serums and before oils-never pilled on me. Oils always go on last, most creams can't penetrate oils. AT least that's what I've read when I googled order of facial products.

Thank-you! the only thing you have to watch out for is If the moisturiser contains dimethicone. wouldn't that prevent oil from getting to the skin? Before I went product crazy, I used to use rosehip oil and then on top of that the hylauronic Neutrogena moisturizer which contains dimethicone. I'll probably go back to that routine in the summer. it was minimal and easy.

Re: Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

@rivergingko Iโ€™ve been using this mask for years and have never had any issues with pilling. @darlyndar Is probably right on skipping the other products underneath it. The only thing I put on before is Skinceuticals retexture activator serum and let it soak in for a good five minutes before applying the mask.  I hope things work out for you, itโ€™s a great product!

Re: Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

Thanks! I know I probably don't wait long enough between layers. I think I'll just try it solo again. I will research some serums - yours sounds good - that really works with mask.

Re: Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

Hi @rivergingko

2 Questions:  How much of the Laneige are you using? and Do you allow your products to sink in prior to applying your next step?

Re: Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

I thought i was allowing everything to sink in, but I think I was adding so much underneath that it didn't have a chance. I know that sounds clueless but I still have that tendency to do the "more is better" even when I just carefully read the instructions! A drop of serum turns into a splash, two pumps turn into three. I need the skincare police! Thanks. This helps to talk it through.

Re: Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

That doesn't sound clueless at all @rivergingko !  The "more is better" approach is pretty common actually.  So a couple things. Try applying your normal steps but give it a little more time in between each application.  In each step try to pat/press the product into your skin as opposed to rubbing it in.  Also if you feel you are using too much apply your products section by section, grabbing more product as necessary.  Pat/press the Laneige in last. Personally when I apply the mask I find that I need a very little amount to cover my entire face (maybe a pea sized amount?) and I layer it on top of my serum and moisturizer.

I can't remember if the box/jar says this but online the instructions say to apply after you have applied a face cream.  Of course this does not mean that you must use the product that way.  After using it as directed for a while I found that I was able to apply it directly to the skin in my most dry areas without issue.  Also remember that suggested use is only 1-2x per week.

Hopefully some of the recommendations provided help the product work for you.  It truly is a wonderful mask and I find it's beneficial across a variety of skin types.

Re: Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

Thank you! Great ideas and I'll put them into action!

Re: Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

@rivergingko When I use this mask, I skip Good Genes and Luna altogether. I apply a generous amount on my face in a swiping motion and I donโ€™t massage it in. It meant to sink into your skin throughout the night. Are you trying to use it as a moisturizer?

Re: Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

Yes that's probably the problem. I need to rethink it and use  more as mask. If I put anything underneath it will be something like a lightweight retexturizer. Thanks!
