Keratosis Pilaris

Re: Keratosis Pilaris on Face

@betterskin24  one of my favourite body scrubs is by Dermadocotor KP Duty Body Scrub.  It’s a chemical exfoliate which is also a physical exfoliant.  I would never use it on my face but it makes my body soooo smooth.  I used to purchase it at Sephora but they didn’t carry it for the longest time.  I did see it in store recently which excited me cause I know I don’t have to order it direct now.  I use it once a week to remove any dead skin.  Definitely wear sunscreen daily if you’re doing full body exfoliation as you’ll be especially prone to sun damage.

As for the face. If the retinoid your dermatologist gave you is peeling your face, you’re using too high a strength and/or too much too soon.  Retinol is an exfoliant and it does speed up skin turnover which helps release keratin plugs but it takes about three months for the turnover to increase while every application acts as an exfoliation.  Exfoliating too often when your cellular turnover is still on the slow side causes your skin to become dry and flakey as what youre doing is exfoliating the fresh skin underneath and stripping it.
First wait until the flaking has stopped.  Then start the retinoid again.  This time dilute your pea sized amount (a pea sized amount is enough for your whole face) into a dime size of fragrance free cream on the back of your hand to help spread it evenly.  Use the retinol only at night and no more than every three days to start.  If you go two weeks at this rate with no peeling then increase it to every two days for the next two weeks unless you experience peeling, at which time you go back to every two days and try again in a week. This gradual increase will give you time to adjust to the retinol while your cell turnover takes time to increase.

Hopefully this helps until your next derm appointment.

I want to add too, that your diet is something to look at when dealing with KP:  I would ask your doctor or dermatologist about a nutritional plan support skin turnover and reduce inflammation in the body.

@betterskin24 @Have you seen a dermatologist?

Re: Keratosis Pilaris on Face

I have. She prescribed a high concentration of retinol that caused my skin to peel badly. Since it's a minor issue, I haven't been keen on going back.

Re: Keratosis Pilaris on Face

@betterskin24 I would ask if they have anything else to prescribe or give you. We are not medical professionals on here.
