How to include SPF in my routine

I’m looking for advice on how to include an spf in my routine. I’m hesitant because I already feel like I use a lot of products so adding something else into the mix seems like a bit much. I’m debating:

a) finding a new moisturizer that has SPF

b) changing my foundation to itCC cream

c) just adding in another step with a dedicated sunscreen

Would love to hear how everyone includes SPF in their routine!

Edited to add I have dry/normal skin with eczema patches.

Current my routine is:

1) cleanse

2) toner

3) serum

4) moisturizer or face oil and eye cream

5) primer

6) concealer/foundation

7) setting powder

Re: How to include SPF in my routine

Thanks everyone, I’m going to try both a stand-alone sunscreen and the IT cc cream. I should mention that I’m in northern canada next to the ocean where it’s overcast most of the year, even in mid-summer on sunny days UV rarely gets above 6-7. But I’ve just turned 30, am using more AHA’s and wrinkles are starting to become a concern. It’s definitely time to start taking better care of my skin!

Re: How to include SPF in my routine

@cjp009 I live in Northern Ontario, I feel you on not always having super sunny days, but remember that the suns rays bounce off of snow and water as well.  If you're using AHA's thats yet another reason to really protect your skin since they do make your skin more photo sensitive.  It's great that you're moving forward taking care of your skin more!  Not only for looks but for your health!  Awesome to hear, let us know if you find an amazing product you love!

RE: How to include SPF in my routine

@cjp009, I agree with others to have a standalone SPF. I used to use BB cream with SPF and although I didn’t get burns, as I aged my face stated getting some dark spots. Now I use a stand-alone SPF 60 and I have not gotten anymore dark added dark spots and because of my skin care regimen my dark spots are fading. Very important and I think SPF is one of the best skincare anyone can do for themselves.

Re: How to include SPF in my routine

@cjp009 .  I agree with @TrysBeautyItems and @quspork .  You should have a standalone sunscreen in your routine regardless of weather or not its in your moisturizer and foundation.  These products simply do not contain enough SPF to protect your skin regardless of the number on the label.  like @TrysBeautyItems  mentions, we have no idea how much of the product is sunscreen.  I see these types of products as great add ons to your stand alone sunscreen but never a replacement. Sunscreen goes on after moisturizer and before primer.

Re: How to include SPF in my routine

You really should wear a standalone sunscreen. Moisturizers and foundations with spf simply don't give you adequate coverage to keep your skin safe from sun damage.

Re: How to include SPF in my routine

@cjp009 To get adequate sun protection don't rely on it within a product, the ratio of spf is unknown and you're probably applying little..the general rule is a shot glass worth of spf for exposed skin. Will note I'm in the desert, so spf is 'required' even in the car.

In your routine, spf is after moisturizer. Primer optional. There's spf and then there's spf..cosmetic spf, which are made to be the primer like Cotz, Australian Gold Botanicals, Elta MD. Sure you can wear primer as well, it's preference.

Re: How to include SPF in my routine

I usually use sunscreen when I am not wearing foundation. But when I am wearing foundation in the summer, I usually use one with SPF.

Re: How to include SPF in my routine

@cjp009 I used to also struggle with adding spf. So I switched from foundation to IT cosmetics matte cc cream. It has great coverage and spf 40.
