I recently had a little education on this topic thanks to a cosmetologist at the local store.  He explained you can't actually shrink your pores.  What you can do is make them appear smaller with a proper skin care regimine.  Exfoliating is key and there are many ways to do it.  The old skin cells need to be removed.  I follow that with Marc Jacobs undercover perfecting coconut face primer and IT cosmetics bye bye pores pressed powder.  This approach works well for me.

Scientifically, you cannot shrink pores. However, you can reduce the appearance of pores by washing your face with cold water, using cleansers on a regular basis that contain ingredients to clean out the muck in the pores (like BHA), using clay masks to suck out gunk, and exfoliating weekly to keep your skin clean.
