Help! Texture, Redness, Pores

Hi everyone! I’ve been doing skincare for a while now, and have gotten my acne under control for the most part (occasional flare-ups). Some things I’ve always struggled with though are redness (scarring?), texture and appearance of pores.

Basically, I’m looking for any advice/products that could help with this.

My current routine:

AM - Cerave foaming cleanser, innisfree volcanic clusters toner, clindamycin (prescription), the ordinary moisturizer.

PM - Cerave foaming cleanser, Cosrx power liquid for blackheads (this name may be wrong), innisfree toner, tretnoin (prescription), the ordinary moisturizer +sometimes laneige water sleeping mask

Serums sometimes: sephora collection night clearing serum, beta hydroxy (the inkey list)

mostly I have a lot of questions too.

should i consult my dermatologist for further treatment options? what are the best ways to get rid of hair/fluff on face without further damaging skin? is there any other serums i should consider using? (i am under 18 if that is relevant). Also because of my redness, how does one find an accurate make up foundation/concealer? Thanks so much for reading this through.

Re: Help! Texture, Redness, Pores

I’ve been suffering from hormonal acne for like more than 10 years now and have a really damaged skin. Was prescribed by many dermatologists and none helped to fully recover. I was such a dumb to identify that I had many open pores 😞 I started using The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% with Cosrx Snail 96 Mucin (whatever the name, I can’t remember exact one) recently. It’s been only 4 weeks now and noticed my pores are really small now (hardly visible. Until now, I thought those are just scars caused by acne). Still, I am also suffering from redness sometimes. Its now always visible, but it appears on some days. Also, I am using adapalene and benzoyl peroxide when a breakout pops up. Hope this helps.

@sfranck588  That’s a lot of questions requiring detailed responses to each.
Redness and scarring takes a while to fade.  Continue using the Trentinoin.  Over an extended period of time you will notice your scarring g fade and your pores will appear smaller.  It takes time and patience.
you could add a scar fading cream like Mederma scar gel or Blume Treat and Fade Kit
I don’t see a sunscreen on your skincare list.  Sunscreen will help prevent hyperpigmentation to scarred skin and will ensure your skin isn’t damaged by the sun.  Trentinoin makes you more photosensitive and more vulnerable to hyperpigmentation so definitely don’t skip that step. A gel sunscreen like biore aqua is nice.
you could try a dermaplaning treatment if you’re unhappy with peach fuzz on your face.  It has the added benefit of exfoliating your skin revealing brighter fresher skin.

using a green color corrector over any red areas under your foundation will neutralize the redness.

You’d likely appreciate a medium to full coverage foundation.  Matte foundations don’t show texture in skin as prominently as satin or dewy foundations.

Re: Help! Texture, Redness, Pores

Hi @sfranck588! I would suspect the redness is from your prescriptions. Both medications have possible side effects that include dryness and redness. It would not hurt to speak with your dermatologist if it’s making you feel uncomfortable. They may have suggestions on things you can do to manage the side effects or possibly re-evaluate your treatment plan if you feel like you have a handle on your skin now. And don’t give up! You’ll get through this a come out the other end soon enough. Great skin takes time. Good luck!
