Gentle cleanser for YOUNG skin

Hello Community! I am a mama of two beautiful daughters, 9 and 11. They’ve been raised by a skincare junkie and I know one day they’ll thank me for it. They currently love washing their faces with my Clarisonic (I only let them use it once a week and the brush I use is a soft/sensitive brush). My 11 year old is realizing she needs to cleanse her face daily and she uses tepid water and CeraVe cleanser but feels it leaves a residue lately. My 9 year old hates CeraVe, but loves using my Sheseido Ibuki Gentle Cleanser. I don’t mind letting her sometimes, but she clearly doesn’t need to be loving a $30 cleanser already! Hahaha! Any recommendations for a safe, gentle (non-stripping) cleanser for their young skin?

Re: Gentle cleanser for YOUNG skin

Alpha Skincare Refreshing Face Wash is not expensive and VERY gentle. If you are into K-Beauty, the CosRX Low Ph Good Morning cleanser might be the thing for your daughters --  again, inexpensive and gentle.

Re: Gentle cleanser for YOUNG skin

Neutrogena Fresh foaming cleanser, I have been using it since I first had to start washing my face. Not a very strong cooling feeling and very gentle on the skin. Also works as a great makeup remover. Still use it during my daily routine.

Re: Gentle cleanser for YOUNG skin

@Anonymous I used that for years and years and swore by it...until I tried FAB Face Cleanser.  Neutrogena was good for me, but FAB has been amazing!!!

Re: Gentle cleanser for YOUNG skin

@WSUTeacher I rec searching beautypedia for best cleansers, and then seeing what is in your budget and fits your daughters' skin needs.  I HIGHLY rec FAB Face Cleanser.  It is gentle but effective.

I personally don't rec any bar soap b/c the binding agents are natural irritants (Drunk Elephant seems to be the exception, though).

Spoiler
From my years of research, Ponds cold cream is considered outdated by many.  Cetaphil for normal to oily is OK, but their gentle cleanser isn't good and of course avoid their bar soap.  St. Ives Apricot Scrub is also abrasive and overall troublesome.

RE: Gentle cleanser for YOUNG skin

I agree with what many of the others said. Cetaphil, ponds cold cream, dove beauty bar. Young skin, before puberty, can pretty much take care of itself. Just really gentle cleaners, and maybe occasional exfoliation with a very gentle product. Probably the best thing to get them in the habit of doing is moisturizing and using SPF on a daily basis.

RE: Gentle cleanser for YOUNG skin

Hi @WSUTeacher I think the Clarisonic is best for adult type skin as it is made to breakdown certain skin cell properties and exfoliates the inside of the epidermis to prepare for shedding of old skin cells. Their skin is very young and still developing and I think this will negatively have a long term affect on the process of their young skin because they don’t even have any “troubled” skin to shed off yet. As far as cleansers You should get something from Walgreens CVS type drug store or Whole Foods make sure you read ingredients -no added fragrance, no parabens, no sulfates someone can help you find products without these ingredients especially at health food stores. Sheamoisture has baby products I think whatever you choose it should still be for baby type skin as they do not have all the cells and bacteria properties in their skin that we have yet due to their age and their PH levels are certainly not the same either. 😘

Maybe try some Tony Moly Peach foam cleanser from Ulta. It’s gentle and moisturizing. It’s affordable and worth a try.

Purilogy makes a really gentle facial cleanser! I love it! You can feel it taking away the impurities off of your face. It can be drying depending on your skin type, so be sure to moisturizer after. Purilogy is made for people who have sensitive skin. I also personally love the peter Thomas Roth water drench cleanser. It's very gentle and leave the face feeling soft!

I feel like CeraVe leaves a residue too. I would recommend FAB Face Cleanser. It's pretty cheap, great for sensitive skin, leaves face very fresh and balanced.

CeraVe, and also some of the Korean skincare brands like Too Cool for School. TCFS is actually intended for young skin (teenager and the like) in its home country.

When I was younger I used the Neutrogena gel cleanser, but the drugstore one I'm using now is by formula 10.0.6 and it's pretty nice (and only $5.99!)

I would recommend the CeraVe Hydrating cleanser or Cetaphil cleansers. They are gentle, but effective. Also, they are generally what dermatologists recommend. Plus you get12oz and it usually between $10-15 depending on where you live.

Re: Gentle cleanser for YOUNG skin

At that age I used St. Ives' apricot scrub - great for when you're starting out I think but once acne starting setting in I ended up needing stronger stuff. Now, I love Mario Badescu cleansers. They have several options and all are in the 15 dollar range for a bottle that lasts a good while. I find they're really gentle on the skin but still leave you feeling clean - I've used the acne cleansing one and the enzyme cleansing and love both.

RE: Gentle cleanser for YOUNG skin

Have you tried a Dove Beauty Bar? It works soooo well. Especially on young skin.

RE: Gentle cleanser for YOUNG skin

I use the ponds cold cream cleanser. It’s great for everyday and leaves your skin feeling moisturized. it’s cheap and can find it at the drug store.
