Essence vs Toner

Whatโ€™s the difference between an essence and a toner? Do I need to use them both and in what order? Also I have combo skin so what would be a good essence if I were to look for one?

RE: Essence vs Toner

Hi. A toner is supposed to bring your skin to its natural ph level after cleansing. However, lines have been blurred, and now we have toners that also exfoliate and treat. The same is with essences, which should be applied after toners but before serums. Essentially, they should provide a super layer of hydration. At the same time, there are essences that also target other skin concerns. An essence that I have surprising come back to is Misshaโ€™s First Time Essence. It is hydrating and watery and soaks in immediately. Iโ€™m sure other posters will have great suggestions for toners and essences.

Do you apply with a cotton pad also? Sounds kind of trying to me.

Hi. It depends on preference. Since the toner I am currently using is a bit thicker in consistency, I use a cotton round. You can drop a few drops into the palms of your hands a pat it into your skin. I do that with my essence. Hope that helps!
