Dry hands

I've tried almost every kind of hand lotion/cream both drug store and at Sephora. Nothing works. I'm a nurse and wearing gloves for years on end has really damaged them. My skin around the nails are cracking and peeling. The rest of my hands are so dry they burn at times. Anyone have this problem and what do you use?

Dry hands

Thank you all for all the suggestions and taking your time to give me great advice. I just wanted to share an update. After talking with some doctors at work and driving a poor Sephora employee mad I had got some relief. As someone posted, washing my hands several dozen times a daylotion was not enough. I am washing my hands with a gentle cleanser then using Ole Henriksen rub n scrub as an exfoliation treatment then applying baby oil and covering my hands with cotton gloves. It seems to be helping a lot. Just wanted to share with you all in case it might be helpful to some. Oh and I will definitely try some of the lotions suggested by you all.

Re: Dry hands

Aquaphor, eczema creams like gold bond which is thick. Have you used moisture gloves like bliss?

RE: Dry hands

Your life will change forever with the Caudalie hand and nail cream!!!! I bought it and can’t put it down. I have soft nails and ragged cuticles and this has totally helped them grow and stay smooth. Expensive for a hand cream but a MUST buy.

Re: Dry hands

Bag Balm, O'Keefes, and Newskin liquid bandage.  Wear overnight with white cotton gloves.

Re: Dry hands

@KHRN I swear by Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream.  You only need a little, and it works so well!  My hands were getting cracked, dry and bleeding from healthcare, and it got to the point where sleeping in Vaseline or even Neosporin wasn't doing anything.  I used Neutrogena and within a day and a half my hands were sooo much better - and then in a few days they were back to normal.  I swear by this product!!!  For me, the key is to use it whenever I wash my hands; although it's made to not wash all the way off necessarily so that you can re-rub it back in.

I keep two at work, one in my bedroom, one in my living room, one in my bathroom, and one in my other bathroom.  I know others in healthcare that swear by this as well.

Some of the gals like "Working Hands" but I didn't think it was as good.

Best of luck!!!

Re: Dry hands

@KHRN. I worked in healthcare for years and between gloves and alcohol and other solutions in the Lab, my fingers would crack and bleed. You can put Super Glue on the worst cracks to help them heal. Also the best cream I found was O'Keefes Healing Hands cream. The L'occitane Shea hand cream is nice too, but the O'Keefes worked the best for me. Good luck finding the one that works for you because dry, cracked hands and fingers sucks!!!😦

RE: Dry hands

@KHRN I agree with L’Occitaine. I use the 25% Shea Butter Hand Cream and it works miracles. My hands are constantly in water. They became extremely dry and rough. I’ve used so many different hand creams and L’Occiatine is definitely the only one that has truly worked. I also use their Shea Butter Foot Cream. That works wonders and doesn’t leave them greasy.

RE: Dry hands

I get really bad dry hands to the point where they crack and bleed and the only thing that has ever worked for me is Lubiderm. My doctor recommended it to me 2 years ago and I’ve been using it ever since. You can find it at Walmart or Shoppers 🙂

RE: Dry hands

I had the same problem. Also wearing gloves and having to wash hands a lot. No hand cream was good enough to ease the dryness. Then I started using creams with colloidal oatmeal in it and it's so great! My hands are so much better and normal again. I am using Eucerin, but I am sure there are lots of other brands. FAB uses colloidal oatmeal as well.

Re: Dry hands

@KHRN, I have similar issues in winter.  L'occitane shea butter hand cream is the best sephora product I've found, and from the drugstore there is a Neutrogena 'Norwegian Formula' hand cream that has similar effect, but is fragrance free.  This will help with the stinging on your hands (it may take a couple applications to help your skin heal, however).

As for cuticles, I'm keeping tabs on this thread now for the same reason!  I've yet to find something that really helps, short of wearing band aids on each finger while the hang nails and cracks heal.... 🤕

lol I use bandaids to keep the skin from bleeding at work. It's such a lovely look. I tried both for weeks and didn't work. I swear they put poison in those surgical gloves!

RE: Dry hands

Have you tried the hand masks or paraffin wax?

I tried lots of hand masks and none work. I never thought...
