Drunk Elephant & Tatcha

I am super obsessed with Tatcha, I adore everything. It’s so perfect for my combination skin and I’ve seen really good improvements overall. I will always have Tatcha in my skincare routine and most of the time I will stick to one brand of skincare as I believe most products are meant to work in conjunction with each other. Well I have recently been eyeing drunk elephant and I love their packaging and just how cute they are (big sucker for packaging over here). I know I shouldn’t be buying solely based on packaging. So I was hoping yall could shed some light for me, would this be a good brand to ADD to my routine? How does it compare to Tatcha? I currently use Tatcha Deep Cleanse, Water Cream and Deep Polish. I have the Essence, Cleansing Oil and the Silk Canvas Primer coming Friday! Things I want to continue to treat and work on 1. Large pores (they’ve gotten smaller with Tatcha) 2. Genetic Dark Under Eye

Re: Drunk Elephant & Tatcha

Based on the responses here I'd like to add some things. DE does NOT require that you use all of their products, nor ONLY their products. They recommend you skip products containing the Suspicious6. It's hard to find products that exclude all of these ingredients, and you may not even have to exclude all of them. However, trying it out may help your skin out immensely. You may not know what ingredients are causing your skin issues, so by excluding potential sensitizers you can see if there is a specific group that irritates your skin.

Based on your original post + responses I see that you are concerned with large pores, greasy or dry skin as well as genetic dark circles under your eyes. While you can't technically change the size of a pore you can minimize what is inside it (which could enlarge it.) First and foremost you should avoid ingredients that may clog the pores. For instance, silicones could clog your pores. Both the Tatcha water cream as well as the primer contains silicones. Also, keep in mind that the Deep Cleanse is a gel water cleanser which may not be sufficient if you use makeup or waterproof sunscreen, you have to see and try this one out. Additionally, when you refer to the "Deep Polish" I am assuming you are referring to the rice enzyme powder, Deep. This powder is good, but it does contain alcohol. Drying alcohols may increase sebum production which could lead to more blackheads. However, alcohol is pretty far down the ingredient list so I am not sure you'd have to worry about that for this product, just making sure you know it is in there. I like and can use their rice enzyme powder. To address pores I'd suggest products containing AHA and BHA (especially BHA!) to remove dead skin cells on the surface as well as deeper down in the pores. The AHA will target the surface of your skin, whereas the BHA is oil soluble and will go further down. The DE TLC Framboos and Babyfacial are excellent products for this. You could also check our retinols (be careful with these!) to target numerous issues, including pores!

Genetic dark circles around your eyes cannot be solved by any skincare products. If a product claims to do so it is a misleading marketing statement. Skincare products CAN help reduce dark circles if they are NOT due to genetic reasons. In that case, I'd recommend products containing caffeine. They provide results basically instantly.

Greasy and/or dry skin could be the result of dysfunctional skin that is not in its' natural state. Using products that strip your skin (alcohols for instance), cleansing your skin too much (try only cleaning nights), and using poorly formulated products may make your skin confused. These things may cause an overproduction of sebum, causing oily skin. Oily skin should not be solved by drying it out. Instead, try adding products that hydrate your skin (B-Hydra) and then lock that hydration in with a moisturizer such as Protini or Lala. Lala has 6 african oils and it's very thick, but you only need a very tiny amount that you melt between your palms and it absorbs beautifully. Dry skin is most likely a result of over cleansing, over-exfoliation or climate. No matter your skin type, always use gentle products, and apply both products that hydrate your skin as well as product containing oils. Everyone needs oils, and oils can reduce oil production if you have oily skin.

RE: Drunk Elephant & Tatcha

I had to return all of my drunk elephant products except for the babyfacial I had pretty every product except for the cleaners. It was not good for my face. Night serum dried my skin so bad, if I didn’t use it I broke out very badly. No amount of moisturizer, oil, or serum helped. Even the eye cream made the corners around my eyes and under my eyes dry. I really wanted to like it because not only because I spent so much money on it, but also because I love how everything is fragrance free. it may work for you, my friend has had no problems with the night serum.

Re: RE: Drunk Elephant & Tatcha

Veeeery late reply to this. However, I'm very surprised by this! Drunk Elephant has been one of very few brands that have managed to solve my skincare issues overall. One, I no longer have oily skin. Two, I has helped reduce blackheads and I do not experience dryness by exclusively using Drunk Elephant products. I believe that if you do experience dryness using DE products you are either using other products containing the suspicious6, transitioned too quickly or your skin is simply not tolerating such high concentrations of actives. It may take a while to get used you. I would really consider trying it again, but by introducing products slowly, and if you experience issues to ask around. I'd love to help out with questions!

Re: RE: Drunk Elephant & Tatcha

Everyone's skin is different. Based on glowing reviews of DE products, I was really hoping they would work out better than they did for me. The Hydra was ok, but everything else was either just ok or made my skin angry. I'm glad it works out well for you though!

RE: Drunk Elephant & Tatcha

Thank you I think I’ll just stick with Tatcha it’s one of the only things that doesn’t make me feel greasy or dry.

Re: RE: Drunk Elephant & Tatcha

drunk elephant recommends you only use their products.  I just started using drunk elephant and my skin looks and feels great so far... but its only been 4 days so i really don't know yet.  I did however notice immediate results from the TLC serum.  My skin rarely breaks out but when I started using a Dior foundation that contained fragrance I was starting to get pimples.  I put on the TLC serum after my nightly cleanse and followed with DEs marula oil and protini.  By morning my pimples were gone.  I went crazy and bought everything from their line and plan on only using their products as suggested.  Tacha and other skin care lines use fragrance and other ingredients that drunk elephant refers to as the "suspicious 6" that can be irritating to skin or damaging below the skins surface.  They also don't believe in skin types and by using their products and only their products your skin will be balanced.  Sephora is amazing that you can literally try whatever you please and return it if it doesn't work for you but I'm going to give DE the best shot and not mix their products with other brands
