Drunk Elephant Lala vs YTTP Adaptogen

Hi! I am trying to decide between these two moisturizers. I have combo skin and looking for something that is really moisturizing for night. I mostly just look for my moisturizers to hydrate as I use other products for treatments but if I were looking for it to do a little more I would say brightening hyperpigmentation. If you have tried both or one or the other let me know what you think! Thanks!

Re: Drunk Elephant Lala vs YTTP Adaptogen

Between these 2, I’d choose Lala Retro based on my sample tests on my combo skin.

YTTP Adaptogen wasn’t bad. But I didn’t like its texture or the way it felt on my skin compared to my usual day and night moisturizer, Youth To The People Superfood Air-Whip Lightweight Face Moisturizer with Hyaluronic Acid 2 oz / 59 mL  I’m not sure if Adaptogen will do much for your hyperpigmentation (something I also have), though I’m sure at least one of its star ingredients (holy basil) is a vitamin C source. I do know Superfood contains vitamin C, so it can potentially brighten your skin. If Superfood’s not moisturizing enough for you, Adaptogen may be a step up. But for me, I didn’t find it much more moisturizing than my trusty Superfood.

If you choose any YTTP cream, I strongly suggest you move it from its clear glass jar to a better container because their ingredients—particularly the antioxidants—are light and air sensitive. You can buy airless vacuum pump jars online. Or if you have (or know someone who has) an empty DE Lala or Protini jar, wash that out and reuse it for your YTTP cream. I bought some airless jars from Amazon. I keep my YTTP Superfood cream in one of them. 🙂 I don’t understand why YTTP uses clear glass containers for nearly all their products. Ingredients protection should always trump packaging aesthetics.

DE Lala Retro is too rich for me to use year round. My oily zone gets cranky if I use Lala during warm or hot weather. So I use it only on winter days when it’s below 0ºF. It’s a fantastic barrier against frigid windy weather and it saved my skin last winter. Locks in hydration like it’s supposed to. Feels like a spa treatment on my dry zones. And Lala contains vitamin C, so it may help brighten your skin. It doesn’t cause me breakouts unless I use it in warm weather.

@kkenzy

I have tried both the DE and YTTP.

Youth To The People Adaptogen Deep Moisturizing Cream with Ashwagandha + Reishi Mushroom 2 / 59

is in a jar that is constantly exposed to air every time you open and close it (that may or may not be important to you). You also have to stick your fingers in to scoop out the product (again - you decide). The product itself is a nice moisturizer, lighter in texture then Lala but still on the thicker side. I tend to get rosy cheeks (not enough for it to bother me though) but didn’t notice the moisturizer reduce any redness. It did leave a subtle glow. I did not re-purchase.

DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lala Retro™ Whipped Moisturizer

is in an airless pump, so no air is exposed to the product, keeping it fresh. You press your fingers down to disperse the product and it comes out of a tiny hole at the top. It is a whipped texture that spreads a long way on the skin. I often find I pump too much out and use the remainder on my elbows and knees. It has no scent to it and besides being a mega rich moisturizer, that’s about all it does. I’m on my 3rd bottle.
