Dermatologica

What does everyone think of Dermatologica? The specific products include the special cleanisng gel, antioxidant mist, overnight retinol repair, active moist moisterizer and the recovery mask. I didnt do much research and just went out and bought these products and now that I've done some research I think Iay return them. Hyram specifically says that none of these ingrediant lists are good... I dont really understand how an ingredient list can be "bad" but work wonders for some people's skin. Any insight?

Re: Dermatologica

@ashleydonna  Whether an ingredients list is good or bad depends partly on what your particular skin needs, and how your skin behaves. My skin is mostly-dry combo and very prone to inflammation. My face doesn't tolerate essential oils (damascus rose oil, lavender oil, lemongrass oil, rosemary oil, bergamot oil, any type of citrus or mint oil, etc.), lavender extract, most citrus extracts, and most fragrance components (limonene, linalool, hexyl cinnamal, etc.). That's the main reason I can't use many Dermatologica products: they contain too many essential oils and fragrance components, which my skin would throw a massive inflammatory tantrum over. So for me, their ingredients lists are bad.

Another aspect of good vs. bad ingredients lists is product efficacy: will the listed ingredients truly do what the brand claims the product will do? Example: if a brand claims a product is a great moisturizer for dry skin, but I don't see any good occlusive moisturizing ingredients in the ingredients list, then I assume the claim is false. I'm not a cosmetic chemist so I can't really tell how good a product is based solely on its ingredients list; for that, I'd have to know how the product's formulated and each ingredient's minimum effective percentage. But those are other ways to tell how good an ingredients list is.

I don't watch Hyram's videos, so I have no idea why he doesn't like Dermatologica's ingredients lists. But I know why I don't like them. 🤣 If your skin's on the sensitive side, you can definitely do better than this brand's products—and for less money, even.

Re: Dermatologica

HYRAM is amazing ! And to the first poster of this thread, if you have a request about a skincare brand he does post videos usually brand specific that tells you exactly which ingredients can be harmful to some... hope this helps

Re: Dermatologica

Way to expensive for what it is, I have never heard of a dermatologist recommending it to me, and I've seen a few.  With so many options out there that are wayyyyyyyyyyy cheaper, why would someone go out of their way to buy dermologica when not only the drugstore but other brand have the same exact products for cheaper.

overnight retinol repair, active moist moisturizer and the recovery mask.

For the cleansing gel la roch posay has a great cleanser that literally just removes dirt from your fa, nothing more nothing less and it comes in a huge bottle for maybe 15$  They also have a medicated cleanser for acne that is amazing (a little drying for dry skin types but for oily acne prone skin its a dream).

Antioxidant mist just get the Caudalie Grape water mist, its 18$ not only calms but is full of antioxidants (grapes are full of them).

For the overnight retinal, olay has a great fragrance free retinal 24 serum that I personally love for breakouts and fighting signs of aging.  Naturium also has a few retinal products that are simple and effective.

Now for the moisturizer, there so many other options that I cannot write them down, if you want a simple but exclusive moisturizer Cetaphil or eucerin heck even cerve are great options, if you want them to be a little posher, First aid beauty or Murad have excellent moisturizers.  Hyram is amazing but so is Dr dray as well as beauty within in regards to skincare advice as well as product recommendations and ingredients breakdowns.
