DOUBLE CLEANSING DISCUSSION

Alright folks, let’s settle this once and for all. I need to hear your opinions/experiences on double cleansing. I’ve been seriously considering it for a bit now but not sure whether it is necessary for me. A little bit of a background: My skin is pretty normal, few hiccups before lady days but other than that im fortunate. The only thing I struggle with is premature aging thanks to my vice...longtime smoker....not proud and on the way to quit but let’s face it, im no superhero. I dont wear foundation/concealer. I use la roche posay tinted spf and glossier cloud paint as my blush. Im totally obsessed with taking care of my skin and less is more approach. However, i embrace natural “i woke up like this” look so ensuring my skin is as perfect as it gets is crucial. Im also super lazy in the mornings so....no contouring for this face 😂 Anyways, is double cleansing really necessary for someone like me or is it just a waste of time and money? I’d love to hear from all folks and even opinions on double cleansing that don’t apply to my case.

Re: DOUBLE CLEANSING DISCUSSION

Hi @Dayana411 in my opinion, i don't think you need to do the double cleansing routine, unless you're using foundation or sunscreen. Otherwise maybe you could try one of those soft silicone scrubby pads with your cleanser so you get a better clean without spending extra $$

Re: DOUBLE CLEANSING DISCUSSION

@Dayana411  I don’t wear a base are up everyday but do wear sunscreen. I love double cleansing my face at night. First with  Shiseido Perfect Cleansing Oil w/ Grape Seed Oil 6 oz / 180 ml and then with BOSCIA - Detoxifying Black Charcoal Cleanser . This is my go to combination for double cleansing for a long time.
After reading your post, I agree with others suggesting you can definitely benefit from double cleansing to remove sunscreen and smoke from your skin. I believe the real trick is to find a combo of cleansers that works best for your skin type and condition. I have oily skin and still there are some cleansers that make my skin feel extremely dry even if I use them alone so there is no way I could use them for double cleansing.  I believe you have a favourite regular cleanser that works well for you so you may want to experiment with a few “first step cleansers” separately to see which one your skin looks and then try it in double cleansing to decide if you like your two cleanser together.

RE: Re: DOUBLE CLEANSING DISCUSSION

Alright gals ya convinced me 🙂 i use green clean from farmacy as my nightly cleanser currently and it works great for me! Since it’s the ideal first step im still on a research to find a second one. Recently I heard of Collosol milk and have been intrigued so might give it a try. Thank you for your precious advice!

Re: DOUBLE CLEANSING DISCUSSION

@Dayana411 I think that because you are wearing an SPF and you are a smoker--and since you mentioned that you really enjoy taking care of your skin--that you really can't go wrong with double cleansing.  I wear more makeup so our situations are different but I found that after I started double cleansing my skin overall just started looking and feeling better in general.  Now that it's a nightly habit I've found that I actually enjoy the process most days because I know that I'll appreciate the results.  It's also often a part of my day that's just "me time" and just to make it even more enjoyable I've purposely purchased a few different types of products so that I can cater my routine to how my skin is feeling and to keep me from getting "bored" with using the same things over and over.

RE: Re: DOUBLE CLEANSING DISCUSSION

Damn girl you’re so right 🥰 im definitely closer to purchasing a second cleanser now 😇😁

Re: DOUBLE CLEANSING DISCUSSION

@Dayana411 As a smoker, I’m sure you could benefit from removing any possible pollutants from your skin, as well as making sure you’re really removing your SPF. As a test, you could wash your face as you normally do and then go in after wards with a micellar water or toner on a cotton pad and see if anything comes off on it. If it’s clean, stick with just washing your face; if not, consider adding a micellar water before washing.

RE: Re: DOUBLE CLEANSING DISCUSSION

I feel like that test would freak me out 🙈😂 excellent idea tho, im definitely going to do this

Re: DOUBLE CLEANSING DISCUSSION

@Dayana411, I double cleanse pretty much every night. I wear a physical / mineral sunscreen (has titanium dioxide and zinc oxide) almost every day so I double cleanse to make sure that all the sunblock and any makeup I wear, along with any excess oils and dead skin are removed and my pores are more clear. If the tinted sunscreen you are using is a mineral sunscreen, I would recommend doing a double cleanse to ensure you've cleaned everything. However, if you find that a single cleanse is enough to remove all the sunblock in the tinted moisturizer, then you can pass on double cleansing.

RE: Re: DOUBLE CLEANSING DISCUSSION

One thing im afraid of is over cleansing my skin and damaging the moisturE barrier. Even tho id only double cleanse at night and with products that are suitable for sensitive skin i still got that fear 😕 (imma freak like that haha )

Re: DOUBLE CLEANSING DISCUSSION

I double cleanse with micellar water as first step if I wear full makeup. But most days are no makeup and an esthetician once told me to wash my face twice so that’s what I do. She said one wash for all the environmental grime and skincare products then again to clear pores. That was 10 years ago so maybe things have changed? But really if it’s not broken why try to fix anything, do what works for you.

RE: Re: DOUBLE CLEANSING DISCUSSION

That’s actually so good to hear, ive been trying to find a dermatologist advice on this and I believe what she/he has told you still applies even 10 years later
