DO NOT BUY Kate Sommerville Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

I want to warn others about what this product did to my face. It literally burned holes and left scabs and now pigmentations on my cheeks. Please do not buy! The concentration of lactic acid and enzymes is way too high to be used at home without a professional. My skin is seriously tough and can take alot so I am shocked at what it did to my face. Now I am spending $1500 on IPL to fix the scars on my cheeks.

RE: DO NOT BUY Kate Sommerville Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

Agreed!!! It’s really burn my face as well.

Re: DO NOT BUY Kate Sommerville Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

yes yes yes, last year when i bought this product in the new year of 2019 i used it and OWWWWWW it hurt and caused my face to react, not just cause that but i am the type of person who scrubs their face quite agressively which is a bummer, but regardless, that product caused my face to burn, sting and made my face red and tingly for too long and hurt.

Re: DO NOT BUY Kate Sommerville Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

@thehongies thank you for sharing! I hope you get better soon!

Re: DO NOT BUY Kate Sommerville Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

@thehongies   That looks so terribly painful.  I’m so sorry you’re having to endure this!    Did a dermatologist confirm whether it was an allergic reaction or a chemical burn?

I’ve used that product so many times with no issues so am shocked to see that it’s harmed you so badly.   I wonder if it was an older expired batch that separated and that’s why it’s so patchy....  do you still have the packaging?  I’m interested in the batch code on it.

RE: DO NOT BUY Kate Sommerville Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

Oh nooo! That’s terrible, I use this product faithfully and never have this issue. However, I did combine it with a potent night cream and it definitely stung, but never looked like that. I’ve learned to use it with a more mild moisturizer or coconut oil. I hope it gets better for you.

Re: DO NOT BUY Kate Sommerville Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

Oh my, that’s horrible @thehongies! I hope you’re able to recover from this. Please do let the company know about your outcome to using their product - perhaps they do need stronger warning to patch test.  I use Exfolikate regularly and it’s worked well for me - I’m terribly sorry to see your adverse reaction to it.

Re: DO NOT BUY Kate Sommerville Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

@thehongies  If you’re talking about KATE SOMERVILLE - ExfoliKate® Intensive Pore Exfoliating Treatment: I also had a bad reaction to this product, though not as bad as yours, so I completely understand your frustration. My problem wasn’t the fact that this product contains AHA and BHA. (I currently use a different exfoliant that’s a blend of 4 AHAs including glycolic and lactic, plus a separate BHA exfoliant, all with no problems.) It was the combo of physical scrub granules + too many irritating essential oils (bergamot, lavender, cinnamon, and orange peel) + alcohol denat + enzymes + AHA/BHA that made my skin a flaky bumpy red disaster.

I’m sure skin type and tolerance play a big part in anyone’s ability to use ExfoliKate. But this product is literally a recipe for disaster, for some of us. I’d just warn folks to patch test ExfoliKate a few times before using it on their entire face.

Anyway, I hope your IPL treatments are successful! I’m sorry you’re going through this. 😞

Re: DO NOT BUY Kate Sommerville Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

I tried Exfolikate two days ago and my skin is a mess.  I regularly exfoliate and use retinol but this product has made my face red, swollen, bumpy, and painful.  I'm throwing the remaining product away and warning others to avoid it.  The formulation is a disaster.

Re: DO NOT BUY Kate Sommerville Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

@thehongies  Have you contacted Kate Somerville corporate headquarters about your reaction?

I had a similar reaction to a product once (not a KS product, though) and that company’s headquarters asked me to ship the unused product so they could assess whether there had been a batch error. They paid for the shipping and gave me a full refund, plus a small additional amount for my inconvenience. (My reaction was on my legs so I was able to wait out the healing process in jeans and leggings, and didn’t need to seek out expensive corrective treatment like you’ve had to.)

I’m so sorry for this terrible experience you’re having 😞

Re: DO NOT BUY Kate Sommerville Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

@PinkEvergreen @I’ve been trying to respond to your message but apparently BIC thinks I’ve messaged too many times today.   🤷‍♀️   Thank you! 🥰 I’ll try again tomorrow.

Re: DO NOT BUY Kate Sommerville Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

@heartsmyface  Try previewing your message first, then clicking send. I had the same problem for a few days, when I tried to send a swatch photo as a reply to someone’s message. To see if anything was wrong with my reply, I previewed it and then tried to send it again, and it worked.

Re: DO NOT BUY Kate Sommerville Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

@PinkEvergreen  This is a good idea. Some brands/companies aren’t as accommodating, so I’m glad the one you dealt with was so helpful. 🙂

Re: DO NOT BUY Kate Sommerville Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

@thehongies   This is awful. I hope it doesn’t hurt bad now. I’ve used that product without issues. I’d recommend trying to find out if you have an allergy to one of the ingredients so this doesn’t happen again. Like others suggested, maybe it shouldn’t be combined with something else you are using?  Hope this heals fast as it looks so painful.

Re: DO NOT BUY Kate Sommerville Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

@thehongies @Wow that looks painful. I’ve never seen or heard of someone having a reaction like that to exfoliate. I use it and I’ve never had that experience. Did you see a dermatologist about this?  I wonder if it was a negative reaction to other products you were using or if you have an allergy to one of the ingredients in there.

Re: DO NOT BUY Kate Sommerville Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

@thehongies

Sorry to hear that. I’ve used it without any issues. Any number of things could have contributed to the reaction you had (using another AHA or BHA product at the same time, medication you were on, length of time you left the product on, skin type and so on) regardless, I hope you feel better soon.
