Cleansing Balm Newbie question

Hi all,

I've been using Farmacy's honey mask and loving it. I'm interested in trying their cleansing Balm but I've never used a balm before.

Currently I use OleHenriksen Find Your Balance oil control cleanser.  I'm wondering if the cleansing Balm typically replaces the other cleanser or if you would use a cleanser after the balm too?

Any tips or advice for a total balm noobie are appreciated!!

Re: Cleansing Balm Newbie question

Another great product for removing makeup are makeup cleansing oils. I highly recommend the Boscia Makeup-Breakup Cool Cleansing Oil. I prefer it over the Clinque take off the day because it's lighter and doesn't make me feel as greasy. Plus its great at removing stubborn eye makeup!

Re: Cleansing Balm Newbie question

Hi @Mardis,

Cleansing balms are an excellent additional to a skincare routine! They're thicker than the average cleanser and are the best at removing makeup. Typically, they are used primarily during a nighttime skincare to remove the day's makeup. Farmacy is a great cleanser. I also recommend Clinique's Take the Day Off Balm. Apply the balm on dry skin and massage for a 1-2 minutes before washing off with warm water.

Stay Gorgeous,

Penelope

RE: Cleansing Balm Newbie question

@Mardis I use a Balm as the first step in my double cleansing routine. I, personally, am obsessed with Clinique Take The Day Off Balm. I apply it in my dry face, watch all my makeup melt off, rinse, then follow with CeraVe SA Cleanser on my Clarisonic. Double cleansing everynight has been great for my skin. In the morning, I use CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser. It’s super gentle and non foaming. I use my hands since my face is already clear of makeup. I only wash it to remove my nighttime skincare and prep for my morning routine. CeraVe has replaced all my expensive cleansers. They work wonders and are $10 at the drugstore! It gives me more play money to spend on other skincare and makeup 💗💗💗

Re: RE: Cleansing Balm Newbie question

Thank you so much!  I will definitely look for this CeraVe!!

RE: Cleansing Balm Newbie question

Hi. You are right: you want to use a water based cleanser after using a cleansing balm/oil. The first will remove oil based impurities. Hope this helps!

Re: RE: Cleansing Balm Newbie question

I agree with @6come6. The balm is designed to remove makeup and the day's pollution buildup. You would need another cleanser to throughly clean the pores, can be gel or creme or whatever you prefer. Balms are usually designed as a first step to double cleansing.

Re: RE: Cleansing Balm Newbie question

Thanks everyone - I really appreciate the feedback!

Re: RE: Cleansing Balm Newbie question

@Mardis, I started using this balm a month ago as part of my double-cleansing routine at night. I love how gentle this product has been. I switched to Estée Lauder’s DoubleWear foundation about three months ago and that stuff stays on! This takes off all my makeup in one gentle, lime sherbet-scented step. I love that it is gentle enough to slather on my eyes and it takes the mascara right off. I follow it with the DE pekee and juju bars on alternate nights.
