Rosacea & winter?

Hello everyone!

I am hoping someone (those with sensitive skin) can recommend me a good wintertime moisturizer. My holy grail Kiehls Ultra Facial Balm was discontinued and I am in panic mode because my I cannot survive in the winter/fall season.

I’ve already tried First Aid, YTTP Adaptogen & Dr Jart Ceramide... all of those burn my skin... please somebody help me:(

Re: Rosacea & winter?

@davidLO123  Do you have the ingredients list for the Kiehl's balm? What were its occlusive moisturizing ingredients (petrolatum, shea butter, mineral oil, squalane, dimethicone, sunflower oil, argan oil, etc.)? There might be something out there with similar ingredients.

I've never used that balm before, but in winter (I'm in Chicago) I top my usual cream moisturizer with with a petrolatum-based ointment/balm, especially on the most sensitive parts of my easily inflamed face. I also use this type of product whenever my skin barrier's broken or I'm in super bad reaction mode. They're thick and kinda greasy feeling, but they protect my skin like nothing else and do wonders to help my skin heel with it's damaged. My go-to is Aquaphor Ointment, but if you're sensitive to lanolin then you'll want to avoid that one. Try CeraVe Healing Ointment instead. Ingredients of both balms:

Spoiler
Aquaphor Ointment:
Active ingredient: Petrolatum (41%) – Skin protectant
Inactive ingredients: Mineral Oil, Ceresin, Lanolin Alcohol, Panthenol, Glycerin, Bisabolol

CeraVe Healing Ointment:
Petrolatum, Paraffinum Liquidum / Mineral Oil / Huile Minerale, Paraffin, Ozokerite, Dimethicone, Aqua / Water / Eau, Ceramide Np, Ceramide Ap, Ceramide Eop, Carbomer, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Proline, Cholesterol, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tocopherol, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Panthenol, Pantolactone, Phytosphingosine, Xanthan Gum, Ethylhexylglycerin

If your skin reacts well to oats and isn't sensitive to dimethicone, consider Aveeno Eczema Therapy Itch Relief Balm. Ingredients:

Spoiler
Glycerin, water, cetearyl alcohol, isocetyl alcohol, dimethicone, cetyl alcohol, benzyl alcohol, ethylhexylglycerin, sodium cetearyl sulfate, benzoic acid, stearic acid, dipotassium phosphate, potassium phosphate, p-anisic acid, caprylic/capric triglyceride, sodium hydroxide, avena sativa (oat) kernel oil, ceramide NP, citric acid, avena sativa (oat) kernel extract

FYI, there's also a "for baby" version of this balm that shuffles the order of some of those ingredients.

This winter, I plan to try Aveeno Eczema Therapy Daily Moisturizing Cream. This is less balm and more like a thick cream moisturizer. Ingredients:

Re: Rosacea & winter?

Thank you so much for this information. I’ve never used petroleum-based products on my face, but I just researched the Cerave one you recommended. Will definitely try that one out
