Clay masks on a plane

I apologize if this isn’t the right group to post in.

does anyone know if airlines count clay masks as a liquid or gel? I’d like to pack my innisfree jeju clay mask in a carry on but not sure if that’s ok

Re: Clay masks on a plane

@roundball The Innisfree Jeju clay mask container is less than or equal to 100 mL, so it's fine. It, as well as balms and gels and pastes, follow the TSA liquid guidelines.

you are correct to long as each liquid is under an 1oz yo...

you are correct so long as each liquid is under an 1oz you should be ok.

Re: Clay masks on a plane

Great question!  I would err on the side of caution and count as a liquid.  I believe toothpaste counts as a “liquid/gel”

Re: Clay masks on a plane

@roundball clay isn't even on the TSA list of what can I bring, however depending on the agent and how the xray looks anything is possible with their call, but you should be fine. TSA does have a Facebook and Twitter to ask them - their handle AskTSA

Actually 3.4oz for the rule 🙂

Imperial 🤷😂

Re: Clay masks on a plane

you had the metric right, never translates exactly lol

Re: Clay masks on a plane

Could go either way. US is more hit and miss now; Heathrow people say basically "anything smearable" will count, so if it's squishy you'll need to pack it as a liquid. Container size needs to be 3oz/100mL or less.

Edit: if you're going anywhere that's actually serious about security, ceramics and clay can trigger extra bag search too.
