PLAY! By SEPHORA Box Versions: Your Questions Answered

Hi PLAY! by SEPHORA subscribers,

 

Some of you have been wondering how we curate each of our boxes, so we wanted to let you know how it works!

 

Every month, our team of beauty experts determine a selection of products around a theme or trend. We then take these products and create different box versions. Because we want you to love all of the deluxe samples you receive, we then choose which version would work best for you based on the answers you provided in your PLAY! PROFILE. This way, the products you receive are appropriate for your beauty needs.

Q: How does PLAY! by Sephora decide which products to send to subscribers each month?

A: PLAY! By Sephora curates a selection of products every month that align with a particular beauty theme or trend we’re loving. From here, we develop box versions – which vary based on different beauty preferences like skin tone and hair. Then, we target these box versions to each subscriber based on his/her PLAY! PROFILE. We always try and send you the box that we believe is best for you.

 

Q: What if I don’t like the products I received in my box?

A: If you’re not sure about why you received a certain product in your box, we encourage you to take your PLAY! PASS to your local Sephora and ask for a personal, one-on-one consultation with one of our Beauty Advisors. This is one of the many perks you get with PLAY!. In-store, a Beauty Advisor can help you find a similar or complimentary products. They will even make you a custom sample so you can try it out at home.

Q: What is the PLAY! PROFILE and how do I update my information?

A: The PLAY! PROFILE captures your beauty preferences and concerns. We use your PROFILE answers to determine which box version is best for you each month. To update your PLAY! PROFILE, first go to My Account and then click on the My Information in left navigation. From here, you can your PROFILE information like hair type, skin concern, and skin tone.

 

Q: What if one of the products in my box is broken, damaged or missing?

A: If you have a problem with your box, you can always call our PLAY! phone extension at 1-844-PLAY-HLP or email us at playhelp@sephora.com. We’re here to help!

I signed up for makeup and perfume that suits me. If I can't get that I'll have to subscribe else where. I haven't received my box yet but from the complaints I'm already somewhat let down. I do not want foiled hair samples that's for sure nor any foil samples that's ridiculous. I signed up for Deluxe samples as advertised. I'm patiently waiting so we will see.

oh no...I just signed up...I hope this isn't a waste of money. I don't mind extra samples of things, but I really do want the main things sent to me to be tailored to me. That's why I joined. 
Here's to hoping the first box is great.

So I finally got my box today. I was excited to see the striped white and black box on my dining room table. I quickly open it up just to see that the glitter sample that I will NEVER use in my life has opened somehow and went all over the rest of the products. Once I wiped everything down I noticed that the rest of the products suck as well. Red bright lipstick that I will never wear, yet another black eyeliner, and more moisturizer. I cancelled my other monthly beauty subscriptions because I like the name Sephora has created. If I'm going to continue to receive boxes like this I will have to cancel and go back to the competitor.

I rarely get products that suit my skin tone so I'm going to assume the algorithm in your system seriously needs calibrating 😞

Something must definitely be wrong with the system Sephora uses to assign products based on our profiles. 90% of the boxes I get the colors/items are completely opposite of my profile. Why would I get moisturizing cream for oily/anti-aging concerns, instead of the Algenist....also the bright fuchsia lipstick sent to redheads, that's a big fail, would never be able to use this. Instead I have to see the other awesome products other subscribers are getting, but not me!! I'm a Rouge, spend lots of money at Sephora, but looking for alternatives moving forward. This will be my last month of Play, since I can't use most of the products I get.

Contrary to popular belief, oily skin needs moisture. So many people that are oily refuse any moisturizing products because they believe it will make it worse! Your skin needs the moisture! Also, it is great to start anti-aging early. If you try to start once you see the aging, do you believe it will magically disapear? Trying to anti-age areas that are already showing aging are incrediably difficult to reverse. It takes extra time and sometimes it won't reverse at all. I do reccomend giving the moisturizer a whirl.

Then this month there must have been an error in whatever algorithm you use to choose the boxes based on our profiles.  Otherwise why would I have gotten a hydrating curly hair product when my profile says I have oily straight hair AND an intensive moisturizing face cream when my profile says I have combo skin?

Everyone hates this box and this is my first one, you are simply sending us samples no one wants and cleaning out shop sending us leftovers. Definitely undermining our preferences & definitely this does not justify our money's worth. This is an insult, if you guys do no strategize to keep this momentum this program will fail.

Every single product in my September Box was not suited for me and actually quite the opposite of my beauty profile questions that I answered. Why say the selections are customized based on our beauty profiles if you are giving out selections that are the literal opposite? What a waste.

Same for me, I got box 704 and every single person I've seen get this box says the same, I'm a redhead and will never ever use fuchsia lipstick, so disappointed this month 🙄

I would really like to be able to apply my Play points to online purchases. I've only used them twice because I either forget when I'm at the register or shop online. It would be nice just to be able to apply them to our account points balance.
