Primers Pilling

I am new to the makeup game and have been trying out several different primers. I have oily skin and would love the primer to also have mattifying properties. I have tried at least 6 and each one has pilled or rubbed off of my skin before I even have a chance to apply my foundation. I've been careful to be gentle and follow the application instructions for each product, but still no luck. Can anyone recommend a light coverage primer for sensitive, oily skin that will not pill? Am I the only one that has this problem?

Re: Primers Pilling

@RachelKalyn OMG I have the exact same problem. What worked (semi-ok) is patting in cover FX blurring primer but I have to be super careful. I only use it if I have time. I tried NYX and it totally separate/slid off my foundation so I am still in search of one pore reducing/ blurring primer.

i also notice if my moisturizer is greasy that basically makes the primer plus foundation slides off/ball up & roll off completely.

RE: Primers Pilling

My primer (Smashbox Pore Minimizing Photo Finish Primer) works like a dream... as long as I follow these steps in the morning: gentle gel cleanser (and rinse); oil control toner; primer. It is absolutely necessary for me to let my skin dry completely between steps. If you don’t have one already, get a folding paper or cloth fan. Otherwise it takes forever 🙂

Re: Primers Pilling

I don't have any recommendations for a specific primer, however I've faced the same pilling problem! What helped me was making sure I was regularly exfoliating my skin (no dead skin build up), moisturizing before primer, and using less primer than I assumed I needed. Hopefully this is of some help!

RE: Primers Pilling

@RachelKalyn are you rubbing the primer into your face like a moisturizer? If you are, don’t. Press the primer into your skin. Let it dry completely then apply your foundation. I like the Boscia mattifying primer. My favorite Cane+Austin has been out of stock forever but if it ever comes back, that would be my #1 recommendation.
