Nose always cakes/separates product. Help please.

I have so much trouble with foundation, concealer, pretty much anything on my nose. Obviously since I'm in this group, the T-Zone gets SUPER oily, especially the nose. I've tried different foundations, concealers, powders, just a lot stuff in general, but it always separates or cakes on my nose before I even finish. Does anyone have any other tips or tricks that they use for this problem? It would be a dream not having to stress so much about my nose. Thanks in advance everyone! 🙂

Hey! I was having this exact same problem, and a couple Laura Mercier products seemed to have fixed it for me.

First, of course, as others have mentioned - make sure your skin is hydrated! I have been using Sunday Riley Luna oil a couple nights a week. I use Clinique Dramatically Different Gel or the FAB Mattifying Moisturizer every morning.

The combo of the Laura Mercier Oil Free Primer + either the Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer or the Silk Creme Oil Free Photo Edition Foundation (depending on how much coverage I am looking for each day) works wonders. With that combo, both the tinted moisturizer and the foundation sit perfectly on my nose rather than sliding off or breaking apart. Setting with the Laura Mercier Translucent setting powder + Urban Decay De-Slick is great as well.

I went through several skincare/foundation options before I tried this, and was so relieved when I found something that finally worked properly! So I hope this is helpful for you 🙂

I've had success with putting translucent powder on my nose before dabbing on foundation on top of it, I don't always do it cause I forget, but that's what's worked for me.

Maybe try makeup forever's step 1 mattifying primer, it works amazingly!

@AlyRam4Reading your post brings me back to when my skin was just like yours. My T-Zone is 300% more oily than the rest of my face. Combination skin is quite the devil. Thankfully, the oily-ness of my skin has drastically declined after experimenting with various products. I mean, it is still oily but I only have to blot once after 6 hours of putting on my makeup.

Key point: Keep your skin hydrated with the right products! Your skin is producing excessive oils because it is dehydrated. I used to use all mattifying products from skincare to makeup and realized it was making me oilier. Unfortunately, I am not a professional so I can't give you in-depth advice.

I can only tell you my routine, and hopefully it'll help!

For skincare, I use a moisturizing face wash (GlamGlow ThirstCleanse). I love Pixi's Glow Tonic. It has really transformed my skin. I have tried many moisturizers and found Kate Somerville's Oil-Free Moisturizer to be the best. I try to use an oil (In my case, Sunday Riley Luna) at least 2x a week. Be wary of doing too many masks that may dry out your skin. (I once did clay masks 3x a week and my skin was an oil spill within an hour of putting on my makeup. Highschool days.) A hydrated and healthy face is the most important part of putting on makeup. Your base is everything.

For makeup, I highly highly recommend Hourglass's Mineral Veil primer. It smooths out pores and any texture wonderfully, and provides my makeup with an un-matchable longevity. I also do not suggest using a matte-finish foundation in combination with a powder. It makes the cake stand out more. I personally love using a hydrating foundation, and then dabbing Laura Mercier's Translucent Powder (holy grail) with a DAMP Beauty Blender onto the face. This makes the powder less obvious and provides a much more beautiful finish. It also wears better throughout the day (for me). I always finish up with a setting spray (Urban Decay All Nighter).

My nose is also my problem area and I found that if I touched up with powder throughout the day, it instantly gets cakey and flakey looking. I only touch up with a blotting sheet when needed.

I hope I helped by sharing what works for me!

I agree with KatieJiang, keeping skin hydrated is very important to fighting oil!

What is your current skincare routine AlyRam4?

Additionally, I've been mixing the tiniest bit of Urban Decay's The Velvetizer Translucent Mix-In Medium for any foundation that is being applied to my t-zone. It's been helping keep things a bit more matte! (Also, a little goes a long way!)

I don't have an extensive skincare routine. I usually just use a Pacifica face wash to cleanse my skin. Sometime's I'll use Tarte's face wash. Then I do my Retin-A to fight my acne. I know I should do more, but I'm always confused on where to begin and what to buy.
