Help! Foundation seperation

I've tried several foundations but only 1 primer...as soon as I apply my foundation to my nose it just smears and separates....It looks patchy and horrible. Does anyone have suggestions on a good primer and foundation for very oily skin and large pores?

@DisneyLoverLisa

Couple of suggestions/recommendations - First off, not sure what your skincare routine is, prior to makeup application(?).....your skincare routine may need some tweaks/adjustments. I always use a toner after cleansing, to make sure I get all the dirt and oil cleared from my face, prior to applying makeup. Something like OLEHENRIKSEN Glow2OH 7% AHA Exfoliating Dark Spot Toner  , or OLEHENRIKSEN Balancing Force™ Oil Control Toner 6.5 oz/ 193 mL  . Some good moisturizers for oily skin would be Jack Black Clean Break™ Oil-Free Moisturizer 3.3 oz/ 98 mL   or Caudalie Vinosource-Hydra Moisturizing Sorbet 1.3 oz/ 40 mL . For oily skin, SPF - Shiseido Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector Broad Spectrum Face Sunscreen SPF 42 1.7 oz/ 50 mL has worked well.

For primer, I like the Smashbox Photo Finish Oil-Free Pore Minimizing Primer 1 oz/ 30 mL . And for foundation, something long-wear and/or matte is your best bet. I've liked Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place 24-Hour Longwear Foundation 6W1 Sandalwood  (not particluar shade, can't get generic link) or Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24H Long Wear Matte Foundation with Hyaluronic Acid & Vitamin E  . I usually use a beauty blender, and "stamp" foundation on - focusing on the harder to cover areas. I will find - at times - that I also have to use a shade-matching concealer around my nose, to truly cover.

Final item to note - Make sure you are allowing products enough time to "set", as you layer them. Not allowing enough "set" time can cause the separation.

@WiscyKristi @DisneyLoverLisa Some amazing recommendations there. I have been using the OLEHENRIKSEN Balancing Force™ Oil Control Toner 6.5 oz/ 193 mL  for a very long time as a spot treatment and a toner. That JackBlack moisturizer is absolutely amazing for oily skin, I reach for it often during the summer time. The Estee Lauder foundation is a long-time tried and true. Truly some amazing products on that list.

Re: Help! Foundation seperation

@QueenMarceline , Agreed on the Jack Black moisturizer. It really doesn't get a lot of mention (probably because it is *marketed* more as a "men's" item). When I discovered it a while back, it was a "happy accident". It's been in my rotation for quite a while. As you said - it's absolutely fantastic for oily skin.

Re: Help! Foundation seperation

@WiscyKristi Oh yes! I discovered it actually after I bought it for my S/O as a "mens product" a while back when I forgot to bring a moisturizer on vacation to Jamaica (face palm). lol It's truly great and definitely lower priced due to it being "a mens product" 😂🤑

Re: Help! Foundation seperation

My skincare routine is extremely minimal. I havent been moisturizing or toning...I only use micellular water to clean my face. I will definitely look into the products you suggested. Thank you so much!

Re: Help! Foundation seperation

What primer and foundations have you been trying, @DisneyLoverLisa? Do you moisturize beforehand? I've had good luck with Smashbox primers, but if you need something more "pore-filling" then I'd suggest the Clarins Instant Smooth primer.

Re: Help! Foundation seperation

I've been using the elf primer and either mac studio fix foundation or Maybelline matte+poreless foundation. i have not been moisturizing

Re: Help! Foundation seperation

I'd definitely focus on your skincare then, @DisneyLoverLisa. Even just getting a good basic routine with a gentle cleanser, light moisturizer, and sunscreen down can really help keep your skin happy and healthy. That in turn will help your makeup lay better.
