I have a question for those that have taken collagen powder to help with hair skin and nails did it give you the poops I have been using it about a month and have noticed it causing the poops more than normal.
Thanks for sharing your experience, it is very useful.
@Tina30219 Collagen is hydrophilic meaning it draws moisture from your body as it passes through your system making your bowel movements more frequent and yes more watery.
@
@heartsmyface wow I didn't know that! Thanks for the info
@makeitup305 It’s actually really good for strengthening your stomach and gut lining and not just for joint skin and nail health. It can have some surprise side effects like loose bowels if you suddenly introduce it into your diet in large quantities. Easing it into your diet slowly allows you more control over..ahem…your intake and the resulting… outtake?😅
I didn't know that either. I've never taken collagen but my crunchy knees might appreciate it lol I guess it's like fiber, but has the opposite effect 😅
@makeitup305 I don't know if this can help crunchy knees (hoping for myself too,) but a turmeric, ginger, and pepper supplement 3x daily really helps with tendon and joint pain.
@Ispend2much6 my knees don't usually hurt but they are incredibly crunchy, lol. If I put my hand on my knee and my leg back and forth, it feels like there's a broken bag of potato chips inside. I just started taking magnesium and glucosamine with MSM so I'm going to try that for a month and see if there's any improvement. If not, I might try your and @heartsmyface's suggestions.
@Ispend2much6 That combo sounds like it would be tasty as a warm drink.
A glucosamine supplement is also great and if you haven’t tried elk antler velvet - it sounds gross but it’s amazing for helping tendons heal!
@heartsmyface I have never heard of it! I'll bet there's no shortage of elk antler velvet in Canada. 🙂 I'm allergic to glucosamine, I think. My husband just started taking it so hopefully it will help him put off surgery.
@Ispend2much6 Oh! Phew, I’m glad you already know that! I would have felt so bad if you tried it and found out on my recommendation!
Here’s the elk Antler velvet I use if it’s of any interest to you.
I am going to have to research that @heartsmyface ! Thanks for taking the time to share a picture of the bottle. I would love to find out how that began its therapeutic journey.
@makeitup305 Oh they would for sure! I swear I noticed a difference in joint comfort in less than a month! Ha I used to have crunchy knees too- especially going up stairs! I never really noticed when the crunchy knees went away….but yay!
@makeitup305 @heartsmyface @I like to mix collagen into my matcha oat milk tea drinks. I don’t put a lot though.
@SportyGirly125 I do the same with collagen powder in coffee. Also not a lot. my joints appreciate it and it’s easier than taking a big pill. I don’t really notice too much difference in my skin besides maaaaybe not being as dry.
@heartsmyface I mix my collagen powder into my coffee, too.
@curlychiquita 🙌. It’s the best way to take it cause it keeps you consistent!
In your coffee? How much do you add?
My sister gifted me a huge like jug of Collagen powder but I have no clue how to start taking it.. but coffee..I enjoy that every day 😅
@CynthieLu I have a vanilla collagen creamer that I don't like in my coffee, but I do like it in my yogurt. 🙂
It's made with coconut milk powder so it's dairy-free, yet has 9% of the daily recommended servings of calcium and a ton of different amino acids. Vital Proteins brand.
@Ispend2much6 Funny, cause mines not a creamer but I do enjoy that it makes my coffee feel creamier. No noticeable flavour. It just has a general sweet fragrance that doesn’t translate to flavour. ha and placenta
@CynthieLu Mine comes in a bag and I just add a half teaspoon and it dissolves into coffee. That’s exactly why it’s so easy to take. It’s attached to a pre-existing habit:). Usually the package will tell you the dose to take. Try half of that to start and see how it goes;).
