For nonlook days I just use a loose bristled brush to lightly dust on Marc Jacobs contour powder and a highlighter. I recently watched a Tony Surratt tutorial for an old Hollywood glam look and my technique is similar. @brendan444

Have you even spoken to him about this whole glam and makeup idea?  If not, then I wouldn't go out and buy anything for him, because he's likely to not have the response to your gift that you are hoping for.  If he's never mentioned it and you bring it up, don't be shocked if he says absolutely not.  If you have mentioned it, and he's been receptive, then perhaps a gift card and a date to shop together. Don't try to "fix" men.  Sure, maybe you can get them to use a shoe spray in their stinky sneakers or put on a nicer shirt to have dinner with your parents, but that's about it.  Suggesting that your boyfriend wear makeup so you can look good in your Instagram photos seems really shallow.  If your boyfriend isn't good enough for you the way he is, then perhaps that's your issue, not his.

I'm a trans man, too. On T about a year and a half. I pass day to day now, but before I did I tried a lot of things to try to make it happen. I'll level with you like I wished someone did with me. Passing is very very hard if at all possible before HRT. Only some people can, and they're extremely lucky. Disclaimer out of the way...while you may not be able to contour to pass, you may be able to make yourself feel more confident, or pass *on camera* only. That can be either fun or painful. Only you know which it is for you. You absolutely *can* masculinize your face with contour. I wish I could point at a YouTube video but I can't find a good one that doesn't have an irl outcome that would bring attention. Makes me think I should make one as it's hard to describe. I'll try to take a few pics over the next few days to show ways to do it, but the key is a decent contour set. I find most liquid foundations look heavy for passing purposes, so I apply it directly over primer and then set with a spray and a beauty blender to make it really melt into the skin. A little bit of coverage like a BB cream instead might help take down flushness in places that AFAB people have a stronger pink tint, such as the cheeks. Hope this helps. Feel free to ask me anything. I been there.

I'll second the Jack Black stuffNo perfumes in it, not oily, and it does a great job.I also like their volcanic ash cleanser too, those are my cornerstones.Twice a day on washing and moisturizing, exfoliate maybe 2x per week with the cleanser in the shower right after shaving.I also like the Tarte BB Tinted Moisturizer, get that shade matched and it covers just enough but not too much.Great for evening out the skin tone and still looking like I am not wearing any coverage.

I might be in a little late, but I spent years perfecting my goth makeup look. I think a mistake many make is to go too way light on the foundation, making them look a little like a mime (no offense). If you're going to go pale, you should choose a foundation that's max 2 shades lighter than your skin, and make sure to blend it down past your jawline. Then you can apply a very pale powder so the effect is a little less obvious. When applying eyeliner, you want to get it right down into your lashline so that there isn't a space between your liner and your eyelashes. Happy gothing! ♥

I’ve been in a Sephora twice in my life, I’ve been researching new moisturizers to help with my skin(acne prone). The ladies at the San Francisco Embarcadero store were super helpful and suggested I change up my skin care routine to cleaning my face twice daily - and recommended a few things to try out last week.  I went back to that store today and bought Farmacy’s Green Clean cleansing balm and got more samples to try out. I liked Kate Somerville’s Dry Skin Saver but I wanted to see what my options are. I’m a believer now - I swore by Bath & Body Work’s cleanser when I was a teenager and I’ve used Kiehl’s in the past. I’m not giving up my “cheap” AHA scrub I buy at a subsidiary of a certain company named after a river in South America but spending the $ on quality skincare is worth it. I’m adding to my arsenal and I’m already seeing results.  Sure, many guys wouldn’t be caught dead at Sephora unless it was their partners or female friends bringing them along. But there were men working at the store and I felt comfortable shopping there. I’m sure my future girlfriend will appreciate that fact when she makes her monthly Sephora runs.

First off, make sure you're using a good primer - POREfessional is good, Maybelline Baby Face is good - lots of them are good.  If you have dry skin don't get a matte one.  This will help keep everything together and the makeup itself from settling into lines.  Two suggestions for foundation: #1) Laura Geller Balance & Brighten - it's a baked mineral powder that goes on really easily, doesn't settle, looks very natural like skin.  #2) Try a cushion foundation like Laniege BB or Maybelline Dream Cushion (trust me on this).  Cushions make your skin look flawless and work well and stay in place pretty well because they dry nicely - I've always thought it's kinda like putting spray paint on your face!  Remember to set with a setting powder like the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores or ELF HD powder.  Alternatively you can use a setting spray, for which Urban Decay All Nighter is the only one to use. Hope that helps!

I also recommend the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery oil. I also love their Ultra Facial Cream and the Youth Dose Eye Treatment. The Youth Dose has actually made a lot of difference for my eye area! BTW, I moved from Mississippi to Michigan in December 2017, so I can can totally relate to the skin care dilemma. I had oily skin my whole life when I lived down South, but when I got to Michigan in the middle of winter, my skin got so dry. I made the mistake of treating my skin like it was still oily the first few months, and I paid for it.

Oh, P.P.S. By "D Smith" I mean "Richard Smith," but Sephora won't let me post his actual name. D i c k Smith? Hahahaha. He innovated a lot of great stuff you can see in the movie The Exorcist, for which he finally won the Academy Award. He did a lot of great stuff with, like, flour and glycerin. Directors were like "make me some special effects!" and he was like "ok let me check my kitchen"

+100. Tinted moisturizer or BB cream (I use one by Dr Jart), plus a creamy concealer to match your skin (I love the one by NARS), topped with setting spray. It'll look super natural, and you only really need those three products to start. (If you want to accentuate your lashes, I'd add a fourth product -- Benefit's tinted lash primer. It's a super natural lash tint, and it looks nothing like mascara. Add a lip balm, and you're glowing!)My husband got into wearing "everyday" makeup because he suffers from redness and occasional breakouts, and he has to go to a lot of meetings and put his "best face forward." His first (terrifying) trip to a Sephora, he was actually immediately greeted and assisted by a male store associate, who was able to match his concealer to his skin perfectly. So @Alegandro is right-on; store associates are your allies! They will not send you out into the world looking mismatched or silly. At first my husband really enjoyed using a Beauty Blender sponge, but now, he says, he's good enough at makeup that he just uses clean fingers -- he likes the control of coverage he can achieve with bare hands. So try a sponge for now, and toss it out later xoxo! Enjoy the journey, OP!

YES to diversity!!!! <3My husband wears "everyday makeup" now, but the very first time he went into a Sephora with me to buy his own concealer, he was scared to death. Ha! The very first employee to greet us and offer assistance was a guy! (Male-presenting and -identified, but with gorgeous "weekend" eye makeup and contour.) I left my husband to it and sneaked off to shop for myself. That employee sent my husband back out into the world with so much energy and confidence! I think my husband was also relieved to learn, after one single shopping experience, that he really doesn't need me -- not at Sephora, at least. Maybe for groceries.  I for one have definitely always been "that friend" who takes my first-time makeup-wearing friends to Sephora -- I understand the nervousness, the feeling of being overwhelmed, or even the feeling of being in danger, and all those feelings are 100% valid -- but makeup is for everybody. And I feel like, by and large, Sephora really enforces that philosophy. OP -- if you're super uncomfortable AND have the means, have you tried visiting a mall makeup counter alone? You'd have the guarantee of knowing people aren't loitering or window-shopping (shoppers are sparse these days, ahaha), so it would afford privacy... but you wouldn't have the same range of product available. :/ Just a thought, maybe a possible alternative.xoxo! Enjoy the journey!!
