Oh, P.P.S. By "D Smith" I mean "Richard Smith," but Sephora won't let me post his actual name. D i c k Smith? Hahahaha. He innovated a lot of great stuff you can see in the movie The Exorcist, for which he finally won the Academy Award. He did a lot of great stuff with, like, flour and glycerin. Directors were like "make me some special effects!" and he was like "ok let me check my kitchen"

Not alone in that sentiment at all -- makeup is for everybody! I love when boys learn of "our ways," and I actually feel blessed anytime I can teach my own husband something about makeup and self-empowerment. People from ALL walks of life deserve to be part of that conversation.

+100. Tinted moisturizer or BB cream (I use one by Dr Jart), plus a creamy concealer to match your skin (I love the one by NARS), topped with setting spray. It'll look super natural, and you only really need those three products to start. (If you want to accentuate your lashes, I'd add a fourth product -- Benefit's tinted lash primer. It's a super natural lash tint, and it looks nothing like mascara. Add a lip balm, and you're glowing!)My husband got into wearing "everyday" makeup because he suffers from redness and occasional breakouts, and he has to go to a lot of meetings and put his "best face forward." His first (terrifying) trip to a Sephora, he was actually immediately greeted and assisted by a male store associate, who was able to match his concealer to his skin perfectly. So @Alegandro is right-on; store associates are your allies! They will not send you out into the world looking mismatched or silly. At first my husband really enjoyed using a Beauty Blender sponge, but now, he says, he's good enough at makeup that he just uses clean fingers -- he likes the control of coverage he can achieve with bare hands. So try a sponge for now, and toss it out later xoxo! Enjoy the journey, OP!

I buy my husband Boscia everything. He has some serious face grease, and a male Sephora employee swore by the brand's charcoal mattifying spray, which my husband really loved. Come to think of it, I think he ran out -- he's back to stealing my Urban Decay All-Nighter. Urban also makes URBAN DECAY - De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray, which -- if I have to share -- would probably also work well on both his face and mine. I use drugstore Thayer's Rose Petal Witch Hazel on the regular, because witch hazel is amazing at shrinking pores, killing pimples, and mattifying skin -- it's a great toner. Rosewater is hydrating and acts as a moisturizer (and, if I'm not mistaken, a barrier?). So it sounds like this would be an all-in-one for after your morning cleanse, before foundation -- I'd be skeptical of its abilities as a "setting" spray though.Hope this helps! <3

YES to diversity!!!! <3My husband wears "everyday makeup" now, but the very first time he went into a Sephora with me to buy his own concealer, he was scared to death. Ha! The very first employee to greet us and offer assistance was a guy! (Male-presenting and -identified, but with gorgeous "weekend" eye makeup and contour.) I left my husband to it and sneaked off to shop for myself. That employee sent my husband back out into the world with so much energy and confidence! I think my husband was also relieved to learn, after one single shopping experience, that he really doesn't need me -- not at Sephora, at least. Maybe for groceries.  I for one have definitely always been "that friend" who takes my first-time makeup-wearing friends to Sephora -- I understand the nervousness, the feeling of being overwhelmed, or even the feeling of being in danger, and all those feelings are 100% valid -- but makeup is for everybody. And I feel like, by and large, Sephora really enforces that philosophy. OP -- if you're super uncomfortable AND have the means, have you tried visiting a mall makeup counter alone? You'd have the guarantee of knowing people aren't loitering or window-shopping (shoppers are sparse these days, ahaha), so it would afford privacy... but you wouldn't have the same range of product available. :/ Just a thought, maybe a possible alternative.xoxo! Enjoy the journey!!

Lovely makeover! I think they really matched you well with the color palette they used -- you're radiant! I know a lot of younger people rely on YouTube nowadays for makeup tutorials, but I genuinely think the best crash course in makeup is actually a book -- Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual!! I recommend it to all my friends who are learning about makeup for the first time. You're gonna have so much fun, and it's so, so worth it. <3 Enjoy!

@Iamcw A lot of people here learned by watching YouTube makeup tutorials. There are great techniques to be learned from both male and female makeup artists/enthusiasts on YouTube, such as Wayne Goss, Tati Westbrook, James Charles, Jackie Aina, etc.  One way to start your exploration with lots of affordable, fun options is by purchasing Sephora Favorites sets. You can purchase these online and new ones are stocked every month or two. There are all sorts of themes: lipsticks, skincare, highlighters, mascaras, etc. You get to try the most popular brands at a fraction of the price you would pay if you bought them separately in full-size.  I’ll tag some examples below. Keep in mind that some sets are only available in the US, and some are only available in Canada. To see the full collection available where you live, search for Sephora Favorites 😊 SEPHORA FAVORITES - Give Me Some Nude Lip SEPHORA FAVORITES - Sunkissed Glow SEPHORA FAVORITES - Summer Hair Saviors SEPHORA FAVORITES - Superstars Kit SEPHORA FAVORITES - Luxury Beauty Kit

Makeup Forever has great foundation. I have a beard, so I don't know how well it would cover up stubble, but I bet it would do a great job. Also make sure they are color correcting too! Have them use some red on the dark areas they are trying to conceal and then apply either the concealer or foundation! Sometimes I do like to wear eyeliner for a really subtle "guyliner" I like to use a soft brown. It really fills into the lash line well and isn't harsh. I like to lift my lashes up and go right on the water line. Then I take a small brush and diffuse it. That really helps make it not so harsh. I love the Urban Decay 24-7 Eye Liner! I also love Benefit's Hoola Matte Bronzer. It's fantastic for some contour and just adding some color back to the skin after foundation. Makeup Forever also has some beautiful HD Blushes that I would recommend too. They are very pigmented so a little goes a long way, but they can be blended out very easily.Hopefully that helps! Good luck to your friend!

Hey! So if you’re highlighting under your eyes you want to go about 1-2 shades lighter than your foundation. So I would find the shade that Best matches your foundation and then go 1-2 shades lighter depending how dramatic you want your highlight to be! Make sure your concealer’s undertone matches the undertones of your foundation.
