I admit I am starting this for selfish reasons. I do love makeup but I don't have the courage ( yet ) to wear it out. This may be a way for me to wear makeup and I may be the only one who knows. Would love to hear your comments, advice, or anything you may want to contribute
If I remember correctly its legal to be topless in BC. So if if you want to get a colour IQ match, technically Sephora can't kick you out @jozkid.
@Anonymous Makes sense to me
I can't link to it, but there is a fantastic Ladylike/BuzzFeed video about exactly this thing... spot on @Anonymous
Burt's Bees! I love this stuff. The yellow tubes are flavor-only, the dark brown tubes are tinted. The tints are very natural-looking, though you may still want to start with the peachy shade (Zinnia?) and work down from there.
For "stealth mode": lips will look natural when they're as shiny as the shiniest part of your face... more than that begins to draw attention. So a person with oily skin or eyelids can wear a little more shine on their mouth than someone with dry skin and not be noticed.
The *skinny* Burt's Bees tubes have heavier color and some shimmer in them... a great look for people who don't like regular lipstick (I'm partial to the Rhubarb shade myself) but they are definitely not stealthy, not even the lighter shades.
The rhubarb - def the best one @fieldsofclover! I think I have a few of those scattered around the bottom of various purses. They're probably a fine vintage by now 😅
@fieldsofclover Yea I checked out the colors and the Zinnia looked pretty good
Love the idea of this thread @Anonymous - also for selfish reasons although not the same ones haha. It's just hard during the week to keep up with a full face of makeup and I worry it's bad for my skin anyways. I want to look put together at work but I also work somewhere pretty casual so there's no need to be super done up
I've definitely made the switch recently over to mostly tinted moisturizers and powder foundations. I know powder can definitely show sometimes but the Wander Beauty one is like my holy grail. It just looks so smooth and great over a pore filling primer and I just use a big fluffy brush to dust it on for light coverage - it's just enough to even out dark spots but unless you are right in front of my face ( so i guess this might fail the 8 inch test) it looks pretty natural to me
@Kim888 It seems to be working out pretty well. I do realize not the same as me LOL. The Wander Beauty sounds like it may be worth a try. I'm finding there is so much to take in. I think I would have to try 1 or 2 products at a time and see how it goes. The tinted moisturizer has come a few times with different people. Thanks for the tip I appreciate it
Mascara:
General thoughts... healthy natural hair, including brows and lashes, is shiny but not super glossy. Mascara can make lashes suspiciously matte; brow gel can look too shiny if overdone.
There are two easy styles of "better than natural" lashes... one is where they're evenly separated and fanned out, since lashes naturally bunch up a bit. For this, a couple coats of clear mascara is your friend. The second is making them darker (therefore, more visible) than your natural lashes. The trick here, especially for blond light-eyed folks like myself is to use a ***brown*** mascara instead of black. Black mascara will never look completely natural on blond/red/light brunettes... obviously it can still look great, and isn't a faux pas on the average person, but it does look slightly out of place. People use that trick to make eyes "pop" with black mascara/liner, but in stealth mode that principle works against you.
One other thing to consider is that if you have oily lids, look for a waterproof brown (or brownish-black, as a last resort) since panda eyes are usually a dead giveaway 🐼
Some drugstore recommendations
oooh i had never thought of using clear mascara but I'm going to look into this @fieldsofclover - I have dark lashes so I don't need color for everyday anyways but I always wish they looked a little more lifted! Thank you for the suggestion
Happy to help @Kim888! The other nice thing about the clear mascara besides more definition is that it usually dries shiny, so your lashes are a little more glossy and catch some light. Regular mascara usually has the opposite effect, so it's kind of a nice touch.
I have very blue eyes. People mention them all the time. The clear mascara is looking good to me right now, but I will try the brown also just to see how it looks. Thanks for sending the mascara choices. That was nice of you @fieldsofclover
@Anonymous You're welcome, I'm too familiar with standing in a drugstore staring blankly at solid walls of mascara to wish that upon anyone else haha. It's hard enough when you do know what you're looking for!
My favorite drugstore mascara is the Volum' Express in the yellow tube there... but in North America at least, it was kind of a Gen X rite of passage to have one of your first mascaras be Great Lash (or the first one we all stole from our moms, lol) so I feel like it's important to bring you into the fold with that one 😄
(Also, it's a solid classic for a reason, you really can't go wrong with it)
@fieldsofclover I really can't believe you stole from your Mom. It is kind of weird in the Drugstore. So Great Lash it is
@Anonymous Heh, not me, no way... I put it back in precisely the same place I found it after trying it out. I was a Good Kid™ 😂
@fieldsofclover Good for you that's what I thought
Wow these updates, tips and tricks are great @fieldsofclover!! Good on you sharing all your sneaky wisdom with us bare faced beauties.
@Aaliaa @fieldsofclover Sharing is great wish I could share back
We all start somewhere @Anonymous! Thats one of the reasons I love BIC because everyone here is willing to share their knowledge and as we learn we share it back. Good luck and don't forget to have fun with the world of makeup.
