The Color IQ skin tone scan or online Shade Finder can be helpful - there are times when they've been spot on and other times, not as close. Sometimes, the best matches I've found have come from the Community. Please share the foundations and concealer shades that work well for you.
So many of these are on my "want to try" list @BluePaisley Thank for sharing!
Oooh I'm curious. Which ones of these really stood out for you? 😍
@CynthieLu These are all my favs listed but my absolute fav foundation is Charlotte tilbury beautiful skin. I am on my third tube of it. Bobbi Brown longwear foundation is my second favorite that they discontinued, they just launched a new one I want to try (I am the shade Beige). I do like the Gucci as well for full coverage and I like to use the Charlotte flawless filter under it. Fav concealer is Nars radiant!
The fenty foundation is newer to me and I like that as well but Charlotte is still my #1. Foundation is my favorite product to try.
@faeriegirl, love Dior! That's great you have a perfect match in the Backstage line.
They have a new foundation stick that I’m hoping will be a match for me too @itsfi 🤞🏻
DIOR Forever Skin Perfect 24H Multi-Use Foundation Stick 2 N Neutral
Yes, I saw that they released a couple new makeup products and a few Dior folks have had good things to say about it. There shades are generally consistent for me across the line, with a few exceptions. You’ll have to let us know how it performs if you pick it up @faeriegirl
✨💗✨ @faeriegirl Star Filter is so good!
My current products are:
Danessa Yummy Skin Tint in shade 4
Danessa Myricks Beauty Yummy Skin Soothing Serum Skin Tint Foundation with Peptides + Ceramides 4
As well as her new concealer in shade 4 as well.
Danessa Myricks Beauty Yummy Skin Lift & Flex Hydrating Concealer With Hyaluronic Acid & Caffeine 4
Before that my concealer was:
HUDA BEAUTY #FauxFilter Matte Buildable Coverage Waterproof Concealer Cotton Candy 2.3 Beige
With
MAC Cosmetics Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation NC15 ( though I think that was a winter skin match)
Some Color IQ matches: 🎨
They match me as a 5.1 (light to medium pink) in Armani's Luminous Silk Foundation ( or 4.5 light golden in the mini oddly)
Tom Ford matches me as a 2.0 in the soft matte foundation.
Described as a light, warm peachy undertone.
I'll add more later 💛
@CynthieLu, I've wondered about the DM concealer - you like?
lol on the Armani LSF matches. I usually get matched between 3.5 - 5 in that collection and whenever they start to pull a few shades around the shade I'm matched to, I say "let's try 4" - I occasionally get an "I don't think that's going to work" look but then they try it and it's "oh yeah, this does match really well."
Lol, okay that makes me feel better @itsfi. it's a shade rainbow and I guess I'm just on the spectrum of those colors 😉
Ahh I'm happy to share my thoughts on the Danessa Myricks Beauty Yummy Skin Lift & Flex Hydrating Concealer With Hyaluronic Acid & Caffeine 4
I have very dry skin and I have to prep hard if I'm wearing concealer. Even though this one is supposed to be forgiving for dry skin I still have to do all my hydrating prep.
I find it similar to her skin tint, you need so little to take care of business. If starting that small ( like a tiny tab) feels to wierd, I would just say, rest assured. You can choose to build if necessary.
I like very light coverage which is another reason I think this is such a hit for me. Minimal creasing after I apply it with a brush, I tap it in with my fingers and I'm good to go. 😀
Disclaimer: I have never tried any high end concealer, so I can't really compare it to much.
Side note: OOne day when my DM bottles are empty I'm either repurchasing, or going for it and trying Armani. It's all the positive feedback on BIC. It sounds so good! 💕
@CynthieLu, the DM concealer sounds very good. I'm not in need of another concealer but the DM did catch my eye when it was released. I hear ya on needing to prep your skin, to keep it hydrated, even if the concealer is one aimed at those with dry skin.
Armani LSF has been a great foundation for me over the years decades and definitely has a huge fan following. Maybe you can pick up a sample (or samples of different shades) when you are close to finishing up your DM - that way you can see how they compare with one another.
@itsfi here is my family of foundations, tinted moisturizers and concealers. I included non-Sephora as well and realized afterwards maybe I shouldn’t have ,but by that time they were tucked away! Lol I also forgot Iris & Romeo. 🤦🏻♀️ Shadewise I seem to be all over the place. Lol I’m basically light /neutral sometimes warm-leaning and normal to dry ish during warm months and dry in colder months. Some matches have been spot on, others not so much! 😆 But eventually I seem to get there with a good match. 😊 As with everyone they also fluctuate depending on the season. I’m glad a lot of concealer formulas are forgiving too so they seem to work well for covering dark circles and correcting. I love to get recommendations on BIC too!
Foundations and Tints- I really favor light moisturizers and buildable formulas or tinted SPF. My favorites are the SF, Supergoop, Hourglass, I & R, CdP, Sisley and Hermès.
Supergoop! Protec(tint) Daily SPF Tint SPF 50 Sunscreen Skin Tint with Ectoin 22W

Concealers-I like light to light medium coverage that is creamy but not too thin or else they settle in my lines. Plus poor things have to do double duty to cover my dark circles. Thanks Italian heritage. Lol I think the Haus, BB, Huda, Ilia, Chantecaille and RdF are my favs.
Bobbi Brown Skin Concealer Stick Sand , Bisque Corrector
Saie Slip Tint Radiant All-Over Concealer with Niacinamide 3

Chantecaille Real Skin 1
Chanel Le Correcteur B20
*** RMS Prosecco Fizz highlighter- the founder mentioned this to use in place of or over concealer for dark circles and it really works!! Champagne shimmer but it doesn’t settle in lines and really brightens up! Use fingers and tap in. Genius! 🤩
@Sunnysmom, lots of fun foundations and concealers in your list! 😍 For the Ilia concealer, are those shades you use for concealing blemishes or all over foundation, or for your undereye? Do you mix them? I remember swatching the Ilia concealer when it first came out but not finding a spot on match then for something for concealing blemishes. Not that I need another concealer. So, ummm, yeah, I'm ... asking for a friend. Yeah, a friend.
Interesting tip about the RMS 🤔 Will be giving that a try.
It’s a process to find what works right @itsfi ?! An ongoing one! Yes I use the Ilia mainly as concealers under eye or blending spots in place of foundation. It was same for me. Colors didn’t quite match so depending on the darkness going on I may mix or not. I think sometimes too I just give up and go ok, close enough!! Probably not the smartest. Glasses also affect this right?! I do like the creaminess of the Ilia tho. The Neutrogena works the best for me for blemishes crazily enough! It dries them up plus seems to just stick!
Isn’t that kind of wild?! She demonstrated it and I was like ok I’ll try it! I didn’t love the color as highlighter at first but it’s grown on me and seems to be flattering. Do you have it? She needs a more neutral one I think. I thought it was pretty gold from what I’d hoped but yet it does some little magic trick under the eyes ! 🤷🏻♀️ Makes sense I guess because I do love the Huda Glow eye concealer for the same reason. Need to try it with other highlighters and maybe I’ll actually use them up more quickly too?!😆 Keep me posted if you try it! Er tell your friend…!
Thanks for the tag, @itsfi
.I'm gonna get on a soapbox for a sec. If you don't care to read it, my matches are in the spoiler tag at the bottom, I've listed my shade, preferences and undertone as well...
So, shade matching is challenging and I use Color IQ as a jumping off/starting point when I'm not familiar with the brands base (how it leans/pulls). Otherwise, it's usually going off of what I know and shade descriptions. Findination is much better at matching me once I enter 3-4 combos, but it's off occasionally
Companies need to step it up. I'm a medium/tan person with neutral/olive undertones. At first, I thought this was off-like I always some sort of weird shade unicorn...but honestly I'm not a rare shade. A lot of BIPOC are this shade and it's only recently I'm finding shades that described themselves as olive and go past a certain shade. And if I can't find a shade, being in the middle, what's happening with my medium deeps, deeps, and beyond baddies? Like c'mon. Why are these shades an afterthought, i.e., regulated to a second or third release???
I try to keep my comments about this here fairly minimum, but it's tiring being ignored when you're a frequent consumer of the market.
**Off soap box**
Skin type: oily/combo
Shade: medium/tan (depends on the brand)
Undertone: neutral/olive
Application Preference: I go lighter to cover my acne scars and either use bronzer on my forehead or just leftover
Coverage preference: medium , liquid
Shade: medium (or medium/tan depends on the brand)
*Discontinued or reformulated
Best:
#Ami Colé Skin-Enhancing Lightweight & Blurring Foundation Stick 310
#Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear Care & Glow Foundation with Hyaluronic Acid 425C * Tried this from a blister pack, and was amazed the cool shade work. It's very pink leaning, so I feel like that helped vs it appearing whitish/gray on me
DIOR Forever Glow Star Filter Multi-Use Complexion Enhancing Booster 4N
Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Medium Coverage Liquid Foundation with Hyaluronic Acid 10 Neutral # (this works on me so well, but CT complexion products break me out 9/10

DIOR Dior Forever Skin Correct Full-Coverage Concealer 4 Warm Olive* (have the reformulation, and it's good but not perfect)
Too Faced Born This Way Natural Finish Longwear Liquid Foundation Caramel*
## (I haven't used this in ages, but it held up well, leans just a tad orange)
Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint 12 # (a smidge light, but blends out of as it is a skin tint)
Fenty Skin Hydra Vizor Huez Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum Mineral Spf 30 Sunscreen 5 # (see above)
Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Soft’Lit Naturally Luminous Hydrating Longwear Foundation 315 # (the most annoying of tag for me 😂, since Fenty's initial launch, some shades have changed and their mix leans pink/orange IMO, so while I used to be 300-330, I'm not quite sure what works when they release something new. 315 was a lucky guess and it's equivalent sitch to the eaze drop/Huez situation)
SEPHORA COLLECTION Best Skin Ever Liquid Foundation 33 N
Estée Lauder Double Wear Sheer Long-Wear Makeup SPF 19 5W1 Bronze
PAT McGRATH LABS Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Weightless Foundation Medium 17

Concealer.
SEPHORA COLLECTION Best Skin Ever Full Coverage Multi-Use Hydrating Concealer 33N, close but not perfect. It's very peachy orange, but for some reason the foundation worked in the same shade
@danielledanielle, a few the foundations you listed is jogging my memory that I have that foundation; thank you. I'll have to remember to update my post another day. Note to self - Self ... 😉
I appreciate you mentioning using Color IQ as a jumping off/starting point - that's a really good point; that's how many Sephora castmembers have used it when working to find a shade match for me.
I agree that there's improvement that needs to be made in shade ranges and matching shade ranges. I don't expect the color IQ software or any shade finder system to be 100% accurate all the time, but it doesn't seem to me to be too much to ask that we have better matches (or matches, period) for more skin colors and skin tones.
@itsfi Smart thread idea!!! Depending on the season or the lighting or the makeup I am wearing when I go in for a Colour IQ match, I have had varying results. Here are some shades that work for me.
Summer
Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Perfect Glow Flawless Oil-Free Foundation 3.5 (when tanned)
Winter
KVD Beauty Good Apple Non-Comedogenic Full-Coverage Serum Foundation Light 012
HUDA BEAUTY #FauxFilter Matte Buildable Coverage Waterproof Concealer Coconut Flakes 2.7 Neutral
All Year
Tower 28 Beauty Swipe All-Over Hydrating Serum Concealer 5.0 EP
Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place 24-Hour Longwear Foundation 1W2 Sand
@itsfi Thank you for tagging me!
Oooh, I love how you broke down your matches by season, @Mellmars1185! Based on a few people's responses, I may have an EL shade to look into when winter rolls around. Thanks so much for sharing these; trying to get good range for the Community based on skin tone, skin type and age. I've gone through my color IQ info and there are definitely patterns in terms of the time of year. Do you have a preference between the KVD Good Apple and the EL Double Wear? Or does it come down to the best match / time of the year?
@itsfi Thank you! I would say that the preference between KVD and EL would be EL for the shade match all year. However, I like how KVD feels in the winter. It is a better shade match for me during the winter months aswell!
What coverage would you say the Huda concealer is @Mellmars1185 ? Good list! 💞
@Sunnysmom Thank you! Huda is full coverage ☺️
