Restarting my Make-up Collection. Where do I start?

I want to start collecting a better make-up instead of the cheap make-up that I usually buy. I was raised by a single father so you can imagine I don't really know too much about make up itself. I tried watching youtube channels but it seems far too complex. ( At least from the make up artists that I've watching)

I wanted to know some advice on where I should start? What should I buy first? If you need to see what I look like in order to help me my username on here is the same as my Instagram.

I think there are great products from both the drugstore and high-end brands!  You don't need to exclusively buy one type or the other 🙂

For example, I absolutely love the Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash-Boosting Eyeliner + Serum.  I tried various high-end liquid liners, and none came close!

I also adore my Hourglass blush in Radiant Magenta (https://www.sephora.com/product/ambient-lighting-blush-collection-P384963).  The color is so beautiful, and I find myself using it almost exclusively.  And the Too Faced Hangover Primer (https://www.sephora.com/product/hangover-replenishing-face-primer-P387589) is my go-to.

I used to rock with more high end but have dabbed a bit with some drugstore makeup. but some favs are marc jacobs genius gel foundation, Laura mercier translucent powder to set, mac eye shadow palettes, urban decay palette, even maybeline. nars shadow primer, nars orgasm for the cheeks. nyx for lips, as well as Kat von d, for lips, fenty beauty has a nice lip as well. for a nude lip, cork liner by mac with velvet teddy

RE: Restarting my Make-up Collection. Where do I start?

It depends on your skin type. I'm oily. What are my fav products are: hourglass mineral veil primer, mac fixplus spray, Estée Lauder double wear foundation, cover fx setting spray, urban decay velvetizer, benefit eye products specifically the precise brow pencil, black beauty blender, bite agave lip mask, NARS blush, hoolah bronzer, and makeup forever extravagant mascara plus my Artis brushes. Oh, and in no specific order. I'm still learning I feel. I watched tati and nikkiajoy on YouTube and that helped. It's def been some try and errors. I'd recommend to get samples at Sephora before you take the plunge ok the product. One thing I would also say is it starts with your skincare. Hope it helps

have you tried Lisa Eldridge for tutorials on YouTube? she has some good "natural" looks which are not complicated. even her more advanced looks are easy to replicate. I relearned how to do my makeup with her, since apparently it wasn't 1990 anymore and I was kind of out of the loop lol. As I moved from drugstore to high end she was my lifeline. I second finding a great foundation or primer/foundation combo first, then a great concealer. I'd them get a mid-range brush set that you love. Once you've got this solid base down, you'll find pretty much everything else is a LOT easier. Don't forget you can combine drugstore and high end, you don't have to do everything at once, but a quality base and good brushes just make life so much easier (my fave brushes were on sale for like $50 bucks and have lasted forever).

Re: Restarting my Make-up Collection. Where do I start?

@Anonymous, if I was to start my collection all over again, I'd run out and get the following (keep in mind, I'm an eye-product junkie :D):

1.  ABH Dipbrow & ABH Brow wiz (for those rushed mornings or quick touch ups throughout the day)

2.  KVD's Tattoo Liner in Trooper - makes wings easy and they stay put all day

3.  Viseart's new pro palette - all the matte shadows you'll need to start off a collection

4.  Natasha Denona's Sunset Palette - for all the warm shimmery/glittery goodness (currently OOS, but will be back)

5.  KVD's ELL in Lolitta - it goes great with so many different types of looks

RE: Restarting my Make-up Collection. Where do I start?

With eyeshadow get Modern Renaissance first! I am obsessed with sparkly eyeshadow and always use it. Although this one only has 2 sparkly shadows in it it’s still the most important palette I have and it’s not a bad price for the amount of colors you get and the brush. I also recommend going into sephora and getting samples of good primers (becca and smashbox are my favorite) also get Color IQ matched and sample a couple of foundations that match you. Wear them for the next couple of days and see which one you can’t live without once you tried it!
