Friendly hello

Hi, ladies!

I hope you're all doing well today and I hope those who are being affected by the hurricane and storms are safe.
I just wanted to drop by and say hello. Also I wanted to ask if you guys had any tips & tricks from stopping my foundation from rubbing off and sliding around? It just seems like no mater how much powder I putt on it rubs off. I have oily skin and live in a tropical area where it's always hot. Any tips on how to slay even when I'm actually looking like a hot mess?

I appreciate all the advice!

Re: Friendly hello

hi, there. Sometimes I feel like there is just not too much one can do to fight the hot, sweaty day. 🙂 But here are a few things I've tried and found to be helpful.

  • First, on a hot day, I try to go light on the amount of makeup I put on, which obviously minimizes that disastrous "melting" look. Instead of using foundation, I'd use cc cushion (like Dior or AmorePacific). Since these go on lighter and thinner, they hide less of imperfections on my skin. So I use concealer to cover certain spots. For these I use hard types like Laura Mercier Secret camouflage or Makeup Forever concealer pencil. Under my eyes, I use soft type concealer (Nars). Then I use very light transparent powder like Makeup Forever hd Powder, just on the spots that sweat a lot, like above my eyebrows, parts of forehead, sides of nose, etc.
  • Second, I try to spend the time and make sure foundation (or cc cream) is well-set into my skin. I find that doing it with brush requires a lot of technique so I use the beauty blender. I make sure it's soaked with cold water and well squeezed. Then I spend a lot of time patting my skin with it--for a long time.
  • Third, I think it's important to make sure your skin is calm and cool before you apply foundation. Make sure your skincare routine is hydrating and cooling. I keep my toner and serum in the refrigerator. I also find skincare products with green tea cools my skin.

I hope these tips might help you a bit!!!

Re: Friendly hello

Thank you so much! I currently use an oil free water based moisturizer and it's been doing quite well. I never thought about using cool/cold products or storing them in the fridge. I'll try that out tomorrow and see how it goes! I appreciate the time you took for these tips & tricks xx

Re: Friendly hello

Hi @AbigailF96. As a fellow oily skin girl, I resonate with your struggle. I find that using a moisturizer targeted for oily skin and a tacky primer before laying out your base helps a lot. A matte foundation, setting powder and setting spray are also essential. If you do get oily after using all of the above, a good translucent (loose or pressed) powder on a powder puff  is great for touch ups without disturbing your makeup.  I'll link all my favorites down below so you can get an idea. Good luck!
