2022 Beauty Resolutions/Goals

Screenshot_20211230-231415_Google.jpg

As 2021 comes to a close, it's time to think about what your 2022 will look like Beauty-wise. What are you goals? P(l)ans? Brands to try? Brands to avoid? Low buy? No buy?

Let's use this space to record our goals and check back in along the year. Drop by as often or as sparingly as you want to check in and encourage each other. All goals/resolutions welcome!!

Re: 2022 Beauty Resolutions/Goals

The Resolutions:

a-girl-is-planning-her-new-year-s-resolutions-free-vector.jpeg

My beauty resolutions this year is to get a solid and detailed skin-care routine down for both morning and night and to get 2-3 designated days for masks or anti-aging in. I've usually been pretty good at this but I think I just have too many products "to try" so I always am throwing something more in or swapping something out for a few weeks. My beauty resolution is to STOP doing this and to really focus in on the products I know I love/own and designate them a solid spot in my routine.

Another beauty resolution I have involves using Sephora Points, after I recently got burned spending 100 points on an item that caused me the worlds most painful and long-lasting breakout (at least that's what it felt like to me) right before the holidays. As many of us know, points are non-refundable and you cannot return the item. I've usually loved getting the 100-250-500 point sampler sets to "try out" brands but in 2022 I am forbidding myself from using Sephora Insider Points on sample-size blind purchases. I still love travel sets from brands I KNOW and LOVE but I am backing away from this habit because $100(=100 points) is NOT worth a sample size of a product that wreaks havoc on your face. I'm looking at you specifically, Herbivore Mini Bakuchiol Retinol Alternative Smoothing Serum 0.34 oz/ 10 mL 👀

Another big beauty resolution that I have is keeping track of my empties. I had a wonderful google doc going documenting this stuff during the summer and fall but somehow I just stopped updating it (better go do that now for products I know I emptied earlier this month). I think this is a wonderful idea to genuinely see how much product I use and how long I can expect for that product to last me. The more data I log on this, the better I can be prepared on how much to buy for back-ups during hot sale times and also to avoid buying too much for items that last a ridiculously long time. (Note to self: Marcy, your "nerd" is showing. 😝)

The Plans:

women-1.jpeg

Some beauty plans are to participate more in this community, I used to post occasionally way back when but I was definitely missing out on the beauty that is the BEAUTY Insider Community. I started regularly participating about a month ago and I really enjoy having an outlet such as these threads and leaving my reviews. My friends can only take so much about me blabbing about these products. I'm definitely that girl around the office. 😂

Another beauty plan I have is to go on a large no-buy and leave my purchases to the times of "good deals". I get caught up in limited edition products sometimes although I've been a lot better this year. Sometimes, they still catch me off-guard on a weak day and I think that I absolutely need something because it's beautiful or I love the brand or I just feel like I cannot miss out on this edition of the product. This is false. I've learned in the end half of 2020 and in 2021 when accidentally missing some gorgeous releases or limited edition products that I usually don't feel guilty for missing out. There's been maybe 2-3 products that I regret NOT purchasing and probably well over 25 that I'm actually glad I either accidentally missed or forced myself to skip.

I'm proud of my progress but I want to do even better, so this year I'm not allowing myself to buy anything until I've gotten rid of at least one item of it's same kind. For example, I can't buy another Bum Bum Cream lotion until I finish my Hempz lotion. I have too many "half full" things laying around and I need to appreciate the products I have and enjoy even if I've already found their replacement. (Note to self: you paid for the full product, not for half-so use it ALL.) This ties into my plan of: starting to actually participate in a project pan mission. Because, I desperately need to.

Yet another plan I have is to do some intense decluttering of my current stash. I don't know what it is, but I've grown oddly attached to some products that I don't even want or simply don't reach for as much anymore. I'm forcing myself to either project pan these, chuck them in the bin where they belong (Note to self: seriously... why do you even own these anymore?) or re-gift the products that are "good, but not for me" to family/friends.

Some overall life plans I have are to get a better paying job (who doesn't want that, am I right?) so that I can enjoy life more overall. Another plan I have is to be more present in my every day life (I'm so guilty of dodging plans to handle "everyday life" or RSVP-ing no. I need to stop that) and to honor my emotions and dissect them more. Oftentimes we feel overly joyous or upset about something and we can either be too afraid to speak our minds in the fear of others reactions or feeling like we are being "overly sensitive" so we set them aside and bury them. I'm old enough to know that this isn't healthy but I'm sure we are all guilty of this to some extent and this year I've been guilty of it enough this year to speak it into existence that I need to speak up more, especially about the things that matter to me. No matter how small or insignificant it may seem to others.

The Brands:

istockphoto-1166121662-612x612.jpeg

The Brand(s) I'd like to try are some of the Kilian perfumes, I've seen some raving reviews of the KILIAN Paris Apple Brandy Eau de Parfum 1.7oz/50ml Eau de Parfum Spray and I'd love to try it out. This particular scent seems right up my alley and let's be real the bottles are beautiful. A brand I'm already familiar with that I'd like to try more of right now is Eminence Organic Skincare. Their masks are great and I just ordered a couple more goodies from them. My skin seems to enjoy the organic ingredients so I'm excited to go on a little journey with this brand.

The Brands I'd like to avoid this year is Herbivore, I don't dislike the brand but the last few products I tried from them have been either disappointing or downright horrible. It's really too bad because I love their Herbivore Jasmine Glowing Hydration Body Oil 4 oz/ 118 mL but once I run out I don't think I'll be repurchasing it (at least not in 2022). I think I might need a "break" from this brand and who knows, I might revisit them in 2023 and fall back in love... but when it comes to this year...

Re: 2022 Beauty Resolutions/Goals

@QueenMarceline you crack me up, I'm so glad you are posting more!

Re: 2022 Beauty Resolutions/Goals

@Samtian Awww, you just made my day. 🙂 Thank you so much.

Re: 2022 Beauty Resolutions/Goals

Great goals. @QueenMarceline -- I can still enjoy your organizational savvy without actually being able to understand spreadsheets.

Re: 2022 Beauty Resolutions/Goals

@heavyhedon Haha! Thank you 🙂 The spreadsheets are indeed, a bit much.

Re: 2022 Beauty Resolutions/Goals

@QueenMarceline Those are some great goals! I hope 2022 is everything you want it to be!!

Re: 2022 Beauty Resolutions/Goals

@Mellmars1185 Thank you 🙂 you as well! Hopefully 2022 is a wonderful year for the Insider community

Re: 2022 Beauty Resolutions/Goals

My goals are:

Health- Drink more water, eat less carbs, exercise 3 to 4 days a week.

Skin- Use DDG Spectralite daily and do at home facials at least twice a month. Get a massage at least every other month.

Budget- Only shop during sales or point multipliers at Sephora and Ulta.

I didn’t even come close to Diamond at Ulta. The diamond perks were not good at all this year. I also spent a lot less than normal at Sephora, direct sites have had much better discounts so I’m not sure I’ll even rerouge in 2022.

Re: 2022 Beauty Resolutions/Goals

Great goals @faeriegirl . We can all support eachother in this community!

Re: 2022 Beauty Resolutions/Goals

@faeriegirl Some really great goal, I had some similar ones. Of course I forgot to add drink more water... that's a must for me. I've been so bad at this. 😁

Re: 2022 Beauty Resolutions/Goals

@haleyvvvv excellent thread!! Will post goals soon!!

Re: Beauty 2022 Resolutions/Goals

My beauty resolution is to get my nighttime routine back on track, use my gau sha with more frequency, and remember to do weekly peels/masks/treatments. I am also NOT doing anything to my hair color wise. I went years and years of lightening it and wearing it long, but I cut off probably a foot and a half in July (growing about 3 inches back at this point) and all of the color treated sections went with it. I’m just sorta curious to see what it does on it’s own in the new climate I live in (moved from the Pacific Northwest to South Florida). Does humidity make my hair curly? We’ll see! How light will the sun highlight my hair naturally? Time will tell! HOW GREY WILL I GET IN MY MID-THIRTIES?? Hopefully not very.

Re: Beauty 2022 Resolutions/Goals

@alexasteph -- cool goals. I got my first grey hair a week before my 24th birthday 😟. I was freaking out. But it took a long, long time before there was any real accumulation.

Re: Beauty 2022 Resolutions/Goals

@heavyhedon Mine started sprouting a few months after I turned 29. Most are buried in deeper layers of hair, so they aren’t super noticeable yet but I am starting to see a few more. My natural hair is pretty dark, but I have some natural lighter spots so I’m hoping the gray just sorta blends in haha.

Re: Beauty 2022 Resolutions/Goals

@haleyvvvv @My beauty resolution is to use my Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare DRx SpectraLite™ FaceWare Pro 3-Minute LED Device more regularly. I definitely spent way too much money not to be consistent!

Re: Beauty 2022 Resolutions/Goals

I think we all have something like that, @Kim888 -- let us know how much effect it has with steady use.

Re: Beauty 2022 Resolutions/Goals

Thanks for starting this thread, @haleyvvvv !  Research has shown that if you share your goals with others you're more likely to attain them.  Best wishes to everyone!

  • Low- or no-buy for the first few months of 2022.  I don't have an issue with the Rouge level; I just need to keep my spending down from this year.  I've set a budget that should work.

  • Like others, drink more water.  I've always been good at that; but for some reason this year, I fell off the wagon and don't drink nearly enough (I just don't drink anything!).

Re: Beauty 2022 Resolutions/Goals

@Titian06 -- I need to drink more too. As long as it's not more 🍷

Re: Beauty 2022 Resolutions/Goals

Thanks for starting this thread, @haleyvvvv. My beauty resolution this year is to NOT make Rouge at Sephora or Diamond at Ulta this year. It will admittedly be more difficult at Ulta since I get my hair done at the salon and that accounts for a good deal of my yearly spend there, but I'm planning to try and "shop my stash" more and use up some of what I already have. The top tier perks just aren't worth it at either store so there's no real benefit to stay overly loyal at this point. For the things I'm really interested in buying, I'll just wait around for the best deal regardless of whom the retailer is.

Re: Beauty 2022 Resolutions/Goals

@quspork -- Got that! When I buy most of my skincare at one place, that's where I hit "levels."

Re: Beauty 2022 Resolutions/Goals

Great thread @haleyvvvv, I hope writing these down will keep me more accountable.

My goals for 2022 seem attainable but I'll for sure need to be really strong and stick with them.

Health : I REALLY need to start drinking more water. I was doing a decent job at it earlier this year but started drinking Redbull again and that is in no way healthy for me. I also want to get back on my low-carbs lifestyle. The last time I was dedicated to it, I lost 25-30lbs; and while I don't need to lose that much right now I do need to shed these holidays lbs.

Financial : I'm going to allot money for hitting Rouge (Sephora) and Diamond (Ulta) but I will try not to actually hit those statuses and whatever I save at the end of the year, I'll donate to charity. I think this will give me the motivation to not buy unnecessary things and/or use my points for purchases instead.

Beauty : I am seriously in need of going on a low-buy. I have way too many of everything but especially eyeshadow palettes. So on new palette releases, I'm going to try and wait 60-90 days before getting them unless they are limited edition and even then, I'll try and wait a couple weeks.

Other : My husband and I have a goal of going to all 50 states and we're only 8 away from it. We usually fly into a place, rent a car and drive to surrounding states. I think 2 trips this year will take us to the remaining 8 🤗 I just need to plan the itinerary.
