Issues When Requesting Samples of Lipstick

Has anyone had any problems when requesting a sample of a lipstick? Iโ€™ve never had a problem before, but now it seems as if some of the employees act like they donโ€™t want to, donโ€™t know how, or canโ€™t.

Re: Issues When Requesting Samples of Lipstick

@kaileigh Does anyone remember how back in the 80s Avon would give out the little tiny lipstick tube samples?  I wish Sephora had that option - even if you had to pay for it!

Re: Issues When Requesting Samples of Lipstick

My grandmother was an Avon lady and I was obsessed with these! These would be so much better than those little blister pack sample things that we have today.

Re: Issues When Requesting Samples of Lipstick

@nyra1821 Yeah - I'm not crazy about blister packs!  And I wonder why there aren't more lip product samples with purchases made online.  It seems like it would be easier and less expensive to send than others that are offered.

RE: Issues When Requesting Samples of Lipstick

If itโ€™s liquid honestly thereโ€™s no point because it needs to be moist for it not to dry so theyโ€™ll dry out before you even get home and those are easier to catch mold and bacteria because of all the had and lip swatches from everyone. The sticks for sanitary reasons you can easily catch something, not everyone who walks in sanitary friendly they either forget or kids like to touch things too. Anything pump is more safer than creams, lip sticks or even shadows

RE: Issues When Requesting Samples of Lipstick

I never request liquids and when I do request a sample of an actual stick, the employees would sterilize it. Now, before I request a sample, I sterilize it myself and then ask for a sample and watch them sterilize it a second time.

Re: Issues When Requesting Samples of Lipstick

All of the stores I've gone to have only made samples out of products that are in pumps or tubes.  Open products like that really shouldn't be offered as samples in my opinion. Just using a lipstick for a makeover they have to sanitize it and cut off the top piece, wasteful in my opinion vs a MUA that uses a spatula and a lip brush to apply.

RE: Re: Issues When Requesting Samples of Lipstick

Theyโ€™ve always done it before and they do remove the top layer as well as sanitize it. Also, Iโ€™ve started sanitizing it myself and then making sure they do too.

Re: Issues When Requesting Samples of Lipstick

I didn't know that it was possible to get samples of lipstick, @kaileigh.  How do they do it?  I'd love to try it!  It would make things so much easier!

RE: Re: Issues When Requesting Samples of Lipstick

They sanitize it and scrape the top layer off and usually sanitize it again then use a little spatula and put it in a sample container. They canโ€™t do liquid lipsticks, but they can with regular sticks. A few have acted like they canโ€™t do it until I point out that Iโ€™ve been coming to the store for years and they always do it. Ironically, after I mention that, they do the entire process of taking off the top layer and sanitizing it as if theyโ€™ve been doing it for years.
