How to prevent bright lipstick from bleeding & feathering (new Pat McGrath)

I recently purchased Pat McGrath MatteTrance lipstick in Candy Flip. It is a fantastic, highly pigmented color! But the first time I wore it I looked like a clown after I ate; it smeared everywhere. Today I wore it with my KVD Everlasting lipliner in Smiths trying to keep it in place (not a perfect color match, but close enough). The lipstick still bled a good amount - the picture below is about 5 minutes after I put it on. What do you suggest? I love the color and the fact that the MatteTrance doesn't dry out my already dry lips, but I can't confidently wear it to work this way. Thank you!

I would try a drier lipliner as that one is pretty creamy and won’t help too much with bleeding. Wooden pencils tend to be drier, and you can get a light, neutral shade as a an all-over base under the lipstick. I have a lot of luck with Kevyn Aucoin and Milani lipliners for this, but anything that’s more precise and less creamy should work.

Also, blotting off the excess after you apply so you get a “stain,” then kind of “tapping” a little more pigment on top of that may help as well. Good luck—that color is gorgeous on you!

Thank you,  @moreotter! I will look into the Kevyn Aucoin lipliners!

I had the same issue with First Of All from Colourpop, it bled a lot and was bright pink. I would suggest the universal lip liner from the Sephora collection (other brands such as MUFE and Know Cosmetics also carry one). You can use a lip primer as well, but the liner give more precision.

Thank you, @Anonymous!  I'll look into the Sephora and MUFE universal lipliners!

p.s. I'm apologize that the top pic posted so large (?) I think it is a quirk of uploading using the app...
