Black/Dark Lipstick Recommendations 🥀

What are the best black/dark lipsticks out there? I want a dark lipstick that is a good decent price and that are hydrating/long lasting. The current one I use is a Hot Topic brand (Blackheart) and it came in a set. The color is great, but it dries up my lips

@nonsensenikkii  First: do you have a finish preference (liquid matte, creme bullet, matte bullet, gloss)? I’ll include a couple of liquid mattes in formulas I can comfortably wear myself. Most liquid mattes are far too drying for my lips. 

Next: why I just happen to have swatches I’ve posted in other BIC threads. 🙂 These may appear different on your skin tone. Then again, it’s kinda hard to skew a black shade of lipstick regardless of skin tone or one’s natural lip shade. Some of my recommendations below aren’t included in my swatch photos. 

Paint It Black, Liv, and Black Dragon included just for color range reference.I added Squid Ink, a blue so dark it’s almost black.

Liquid mattes: 

- NARS - Powermatte Lip Pigment in Paint It Black 

- Black Moon Liquid To Matte in Sleepwalker 

- Pat McGrath Labs LiquiLUST 007 Single in Nightshade (not black; it’s a deep purple): these are kinda buried on her site. To find them, visit Pat McGrath direct and click the LIPS menu, then click Lip Labs. 

Bullets: 

- ColourPop Lux in Aeronaut: ridiculously underpriced at $7 USD.  

- Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick F'N Black : this is a blue-toned black shade, not jet black. 

- NYX Suede Matte Lipstick in Alien (jet black) or Doom (deep dark purple): $8 each. 

- MAC Liptensity in Stallion - the Liptensity line was discontinued this year ☹️ so you’ll have to hunt for this one. I’m not sure if MAC direct still has it in stock, but if they do it’ll cost around $13 USD. Stallion is one of my favorite shades in one of my favorite formulas: super pigmented and comfy. I hope you can find this one somewhere! 

- BITE BEAUTY - Amuse Bouche Lipstick - Squid Ink : this is a navy so dark, it’s almost black. 

- PAT MCGRATH LABS - MatteTrance™ Lipstick - Deep Void 210 : pricey option, but if you want a super dark purple bullet, this is your shade. 

- NARS - Audacious Lipstick in Nancy: the best of NARS’s deep purple bullets. 

Gloss: 

Okay so, I’ve yet to find a black gloss that performs great (doesn’t bleed/feather a lot or quickly pool into my lip lines). But! If you apply NARS - Lip Gloss - Triple X over NARS Powermatte in Paint It Black, you’ll get a black gloss. 

Ditto for Fenty Mattemoiselle in F’N Black topped with any Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Gloss Luminizer FU$$Y.
