Lanolin has been removed from the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask.
Hello! I am not sure it is the lanolin, at least in my case, because I use pure lanolin to recover from the allergy Bite amuse bouche gives me... and within a week I'm good again...

I just went through an allergic reaction to the Bite Agave Nighttime Lip Therapy and the Agave Lip Mask.
I’d been using the nighttime mask for about a month when my lips got suuuper dry. Drier than they’d ever been in my entire life. So I started using the mask a little more heavily to make up for the dryness. A couple days later my lips were swollen when I woke up. Then they started getting even more swollen in the mornings, tingling and lumpy and discoloured. Then harsh little bumps formed along the entire perimeter of my upper lip. After about 5 days I found this thread and realized it was the Bite lip mask!
I stopped using it and my lips are slowly healing now. The swelling, tingling and discolouration has stopped, but I’m still dealing with residual dryness and some deeper cracks that formed on my lips and in the corners.
Bite confirmed to me that the nighttime mask does NOT have lanolin so I still don’t know what it is that I reacted to, but I definitely won’t personally be using their lip products ever again!24 hrs after discontinued use

Yes! I purchased the Agave lip kit and experienced excessive lip chapping and now horrific discoloration. I have these very black lip scarring on my lower lip, that appeared one morning after using the agave lip ointment. I also felt a lot of burning and discomfort and thought it was helping. I reached out to Sephora Customers Service and at first they weren’t responsive. I had to really stress how distressed I was over my lip discoloration and point out that a product they are selling caused this. I purchased 2 lip kits in early Dec 2019 and it was discounted, when I inquired a Sephora rep said Bite was changing their formula, however Sephora was still selling the old formula/Bite products at a discount. If they knew something was wrong with Bite products why were they selling them??? I am livid. Is anyone else experiencing this type of discoloration?
I gathered every single Bite lipstick and kit I purchased and returned them. A very lovely manager at the Sephora Brooklyn Heights location (think Omar) was so helpful and compassionate. He saw how upset I was. This happened to my face and it is beyond upsetting. My insurance considers this as cosmetic and I have to pay a Dermatologist to treat my lips. This is not right!!! I put a lot of faith in Sephora and the brands they stock and sell. This should not have happened.
i know this is VERY late but i wanted to comment in case anyone who comes across the same thing understands what they might be going through as well. you may have Eczematous Cheilitis. i’m going through the same thing right now. your lips look exactly how mine became and they became VERY chapped which is weird cus i moisturize my lips daily. it’s become scaley and it also had a burning sensation from time to time. it’s an allergic reaction so i’m sure it’s temporary. and one way you can get eczema on your lips is due to cosmetics. i happened to get mine from a expired lip balm 😞 i hope things are better for you in this year. i’d love if you can get back to me to know whether or not things got better for you.. because it sucks going through the same thing and not having any dermatologist which i can afford.
I had this same reaction to a T!! I can't remember what ingredient caused it, but it was in the amuse bouche lipsticks and the French press glosses. I also had the reaction when I tried Physicians Formula's glossy lipstick formula (so it tends to be glossier formulas for me that are super emollient). It lasts about a week for me and then slowly heals. My recommendation is to use a product like aquaphor to heal it for the time being and don't use any color cosmetics there until it's completely healed.

Hello!
Exactly the same in my case, its more with the glossy formulas, cause I can use Huda Beauty Matte lipsticks and have no issues, also TheBalm matte liquid lipsticks and physicians formula healthy line of liquid lipsticks, without problems, but tried TheBalm Read my lips that is glossy gave me allergies (not the Plump your pucker weirdly), also colouporp glossy and all the Bite Amuse Bouche... but doesn't seem to happen with the crayons... Do you know what is causing it??? I know its not the lanolin, cause I use pure lanolin to recover from the allergy, doesn't cause more...
I think its the Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil that is in creamier and glossy lip products. Read the ingredient lists for your products.
For me......
Nars Audaciuos
Laura Mercier Sheer Lip Colour
Clinique Chubby Stick Colour Balm
Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek
Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask
Fresh Sugar Lip Polisher
Burt's Bee's Lip Balm and Nivea Chapstick
I'm waiting for my lips to heal up to test my Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil. No castor oil in it. My lips were getting better but yesterday I put on the BB Agave Lip Mask....huge setback but it helped me to zero in on the castor oil.
I have been using one of the Bite lipsticks (Chai) off and on for the last year & have been loving it! But within the last 3 weeks I have noticed I've been getting an allergic reaction to something (swollen/liquidy lips) I wasn't sure what the culprit was until I wore it again last night and the reaction happened again. This is something new that has never happened wearing this lipstick up until recently so I am sad that I have developed some sort of allergy to an ingredient in it and can no longer wear it 😞
I am SO thankful to see your post! I too used the Chai shade and loved it for months. Two weeks ago I wore it and had a horrible reaction. My lips blistered and puffed up by the end of the day. I didn’t use it for a week or so, tried it again, and it happened again 😞 so sad but thankful I’m not crazy!
Same here!
Used them for a while before getting a reaction and now it only takes a couple of hours to be full on my lips...
I'm trying to compare what the Chai shade with other products to see what is giving me allergies (so I dont buy other lipsticks with that)... do you have any ideas?
I'm pretty sure it's not the lanolin in my case, cause I use it to rehabilitate my lips after the allergy takes over... and it works with keeping them hydrated... and if I do lanolin first and then the lipstick I don't get such a reaction, as it acts as a barrier.
Seems that the crayons (I have glace and peche) don't give me the same allergy as the amuse bouche... not sure either if its all the shades I have of amuse bouche... it's just so annoying having to try each shade and having this burst of allergies that last a week... I guess the quarantine allows me to have disgusting lips for a while...
Same!!
I used it for a couple of months and nothing happened, but since last week I am getting allergic reactions. My lips get swollen and covered with cold sores.
What did you do to get rid of the bumps?
I am taking a break from my usual Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask and most other lip products so I can thoroughly check out the Bite All Agave 3 Piece Lip Care set (thanks, new Sephora 30 day return policy -- I guess you are helping me focus).
This set has the daytime balm, the clear agave mask, and the overnight lip therapy.
I read reviews on the set and everyone said the balm is soft and breaks easily. I guess I am already prepared for this, due to years of using Fresh's mini balms, which are so fragile. So I just barely turn the balm up past the top of the tube to use it, and I'm not having any problems with breakage so far.
This is day 2 of the experiment. On the first day, using just the balm, my lips were starting to feel dry. Later I added the other 2 products. Now they are feeling more moisturized, but I also feel that slight buildup of skin cells right on the border of my inner and outer bottom lip; to me that means I will need to physically exfoliate my lips soon.
My lips are plumper than usual, which is great, but I am getting some tingling sensations, and if my lips start burning I am going to discontinue these right away.
Edit: Well this set of products made it hurt when I rubbed my lips together, even just a little, after only 2 days of use. I didn't think it was going to get any better, probably just worse.
Yes! I bought the new Vegan Daytime Lipbalm last month as a treat since I was severely dehydrated while pregnant and my lips were starting to get really chapped. I’ve used the lipbalm for a month, and about two weeks in noticed that excess skin would peel off. I thought it was the chapped skin so I kept applying the balm daily/nightly. A month in and the other day I woke up with a large amount of skin flaking and swollen lips. That night I noticed it was hard to sleep because my lips were burning. The following day I woke up with patchy sores lining the inside of my lips. And the day after that the patches fell off and there were canker sores lining my lips, inside my mouth and on the tip of my tongue. I’m trying to reduce pain with salt water rinses and Vaseline for now.
Yup. This is my first time using this stuff..loved the way it felt. Now my lips have like an extra layer of crumbly skin on them and small cracks. Wtf. Burts bees and eos does this to me too. Has to be a common product .beeswax maybe?
Oh wow, so many experiencing an effect because of the Bite lip products! For me, it just "recently" started. I bought a mini kit 2 years ago with the lavender Agave Lip Mask in it and actually really liked it. That one I've ran out of after 1,5 yrs, so bought the full size 5 months ago. That was also the time I started to have cuts in the corner of my lips and really sore dry lips (which I've never had, I'm 31 and my lips are smooth usually). I started testing with different balms and every time I didn't use it, it healed and every time I did use it, it started again. Hope they will fix it somehow.
Nope and I'm allergic to everything under the sun and stars. So sorry you had to deal with that! You can always go to an allergist and take the product with you and what ingredients it has to be tested so they can find what it is so you can avoid it with other products.
Isn't Bite beauty supposed to be natural and organic? I don't think that I react to them (but I haven't worn them in a while).
Are you all reacting to other 'natural' lipsticks as well? If you aren't, it could help to narrow down the ingredient(s) causing the reaction so that you can avoid it in the future.
