Makeup

Hey guys!

I've been wanting to get natural looking makeup but I can't find anything.

Have any recommendations???

Re: Makeup

peripera and 3ce are wonderful kbeauty brands 🙂 try looking for a skin tint then pair with a gloss or lip tint if you want more natural looking 🙂

Re: Makeup

I'd look into lip tints by Romand (my obsession) as well as skin tints. They're lighter and more sheer than a foundation or powder. You can also try tinted sunscreen to blend skincare with makeup. Just lean into your natural beauty, don't fight it, and you'll be glowin' ❤️

Re: Makeup

Hey @ARABELLAAAAAAA ! I have a bit more experience with Japanese makeup brands than Korean brands. If you’re after that very soft Japanese powder blush look, ADDICTION Tokyo is a good option. So is Surratt Beauty, an American brand based on Japanese aesthetics.

But for a general natural “no-makeup makeup” look, I’ll also recommend these non-Korean brands: Glossier, Merit, Versed (Merit’s sister brand, available at Target if you’re in the US), Tower 28, Perricone MD, and Bare Minerals. Also consider Phytosurgence, a Canadian brand.

Have you browsed any K/J-beauty retailer sites like YesStyle, Olive Young, Jolse, Stylevana, Soko Glam, etc.? That’s a good way to see what Korean makeup’s available.

Re: Makeup

@ARABELLAAAAAAA I would look into the brand Merit.

Re: Makeup

@ARABELLAAAAAAA, my makeup stash consists of Korean and non-Korean beauty brands, but I see this post is under the Kbeauty discussion group and you've tagged your post with a "Korean makeup" label, so I'll just note the Kbeauty brands that I've used that may be of interest to you.

COMPLEXION/BASE

BB creams/cushion foundation/tinted moisturizer/skin tints
  • Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream (red packaging) - the OG - the consistency leans on the thicker side - I wouldn't say it's thick but thicker compared to the newer generation BB creams. Missha has a newer version (purple packaging), with a serum formulation that applies and wears nicely - a word of caution on that is the lighter shades have a noticeable grey undertone to them, at least on me.
  • Dr. Jart+ Premium BB Tinted Moisturizer with Niacinamide and SPF 40 - they have expanded their color range a bit, on both ends of the color spectrum. Consistency is light and hydrating. The light shade leans grey
  • CLE Cosmetics CCC Cream - Korean-American brand - this is my current favorite Kbeauty light coverage base. It gives a lit from within glow. Goes on as a white cream that transforms to the hue described (e.g., warm light, neutral medium, olive medium deep, neutral deep, etc.)
  • Sulwhasoo Perfecting Foundation - coverage and consistency is nice, very limited color range
  • Troiareuke Seoul Aesthetic Cushion - most moisturizing of the cushion compacts that the brand puts out - it was three, but lately, I only find 2 different versions. Limited color range. For skin that leans more combo or oily, their A+ cushion is very good
  • Clio Kill Cover Cushion foundation - the one with the clear top and black tray on the bottom. Good staying power - that seems to be something the brand does very well. I first tried their mascara and it stays in place as well.

Light Coverage foundation
  • hince Second Skin foundation - this one is newer to me, but so far, I'm really enjoying it
  • Jungsaemmool - this feels like it gives me a heavier coverage but it can be easily sheered out

Full Coverage foundation
  • touch in Sol Pretty Filter Perfect Finish Foundation - this is the most full coverage foundation I have used - that's including Asian and non-Asian makeup brands. Applied on its own, I look and feel like I'm wearing makeup. That said, it can be sheered out to a lighter, more natural looking finish. My skin is dry so I mix it with an oil to thin it out without changing its hue. You can use a clear serum as well. Using a cream/moisturizer or milky serum will lighten the shade to some degree.

CHEEKS: I've only recently delved a bit deeper into cheek products from South Korean brands
  • BLUSH: I've tried blushers from a few Kbeauty brands, but fwee Lip & Cheek Blurring Pots are the ones I've picked up in different shades - their blush is well pigmented and easy to work with - can be built up or sheered out depending on the finish and color intensity you're looking for.

  • BRONZER / CONTOUR: Too Cool For School - their Artclass by Rodin series (for all cheek products) is good

  • HIGHLIGHT: Lilybyred Luv Beam Veil - ngl, I was drawn in by the heart-shaped packaging, but these are some pretty highlighters beyond that, a couple of them have a pretty shift

EYES:
  • MASCARA: Clio is my go to brand
  • LIQUID EYELINER: I don't have much experience with eyeliner from South Korean brands. Dollywink (a Japanese brand) made my HG liquid liner before it was discontinued. I've been on the hunt for a suitable replacement but the ones I'm currently using (and which are quite good) are from US or European based brands.
  • EYE SHADOW: I won't be of help to you with this category. I haven't really had much luck with eyeshadows from South Korean brands - I prefer a little more color payoff than I've gotten from the brands I've tried, though admittedly, I've only tried a few brands.

LIPS:
I've gone through many lip products from Kbeauty brands over the years. Not sure how to narrow down this category. Peripera lip stains are wonderful as do the Nooni lip oils!! I've been pleased with the lip offerings from Rom&Nd. Hera makes some good lip glosses.  BBIA and Hince have caught my eye and I have some lip products that I've been meaning to give a go but just haven't gotten around to yet.
