My points are gone, despite retrieving 2019 birthday gift!

I had a financially tough 2019. So, I did not buy anything from Sephora. But I did get my 2019 birthday gift from the Sephora inside JCPenney at the NWA Mall, Fayetteville, AR. I had some points saved up and was waiting for the perfect reward. I even spoke to a customer service representative in December to ensure that my points would not expire as I had not made any purchases. They assured me that since I got my birthday gift it should not be a problem. The new year comes around and my points are all gone! A customer service representative told me there was probably some error. They could not restore my points, not the entire amount anyway. I don't blame her. But how is it that despite me retrieving the 2019 birthday gift, all my saved up points are gone? I finally really wanted something from the Rewards Bazaar and they cruelly took my points away. I feel so low! 😞
