A mixed bag of things over the past week from Walmart, Winners, and Sephora. (And Old Navy)

I went to Walmart for groceries and cleaning supplies earlier this week. I couldn’t leave without a trip through the beauty section. Nothing piqued my interest makeup or manicure-wise but I did finish a bottle of quick dry drops and needed some more. The only one I found was Essie. 

Not to be left out, my kids picked up some new polishes of their own from Walmart. Hopefully these work better than the Smackers ones I got last month. That one rubbed off over night just from them tossing and turning. 

I went to the mall today to grab a cardigan from Old Navy that I’ve been eyeing (the grey backdrop) and for a brow appointment, specifically at Benefit brow bar in Sephora. The brow tech is an acquaintance of mine who used to work at another Sephora location closer to home as a makeup artist/beauty consultant. She helped me out a lot with figuring out an initial skincare routine and also did my first makeover almost a year ago. It was great to see her again, support her new line of work, and catch up. She gave me a sample of Benefit Cosmetics BADgal BANG! Volumizing Mascara Intense Pitch Black Hopefully this tube is better than the last sample I got. 

While there, I passed by a Winners and picked up some blending sponges, a blue holo polish from Lights Lacquer, retinol serum, and some of the cutest headbands. I also got a mini manicure set to keep in my car. I had a hangnail that was bothering me and no way to fix it. Also, somehow my girls know what the blending sponges are for… 🤨

I also passed by a Trade Secrets beauty supply shop in the mall. While browsing their polish selection, the sales lady asked me if I was looking for an option for a girlfriend or daughter. I looked at her and said “No, I’m looking for myself!” She was shocked, so I showed her my Barbie manicure and she still couldn’t hold her disbelief (to be fair, I was shopping as my usual masc self or “guy mode”). They had a buy 2, get 1 free deal going one. There was an OPI Barbie display but the only shade I wanted was “Hi Barbie” and they were sold out. Nothing else interested me, so I left.

@JoSometimes Great hauls! What a great idea to have a manicure set in the car. There have been many times that would have come in handy for me....especially a nail file. I hope you enjoy all of your new purchases.

@CynthieLu Years before I embraced my femme side, I actually kept a nail clipper on my key ring. It was handy for hangnails and other nail emergencies but also as a mini pry bar, screwdriver, tweezers, to open packages or remove clothing tags. I even used it to cut off the excess length of guitar strings when I didn’t have a proper pair of pliers. It made my keys really bulky though, so I eventually took it off. It was basically a Swiss Army knife to me.

I love hearing how you feel more free to be yourself 💗 this world needs more of that.  I think a mini clipper is soooo handy @JoSometimes  I used to have a awesome Swiss army knife that even had nail tools on it.  I have no idea what happened to it but you've reminded me how functional it was 😁

@CynthieLu I’m just glad Canada is generally leaning towards acceptance and not just tolerance (at least that’s what it seems like to me). I’m also blessed to be surrounded by people that are also accepting of me. And that includes everyone here in BIC!
