Thoughts on the Maison Margiela line?

I like a few scents from them, but wow, 130 for a 3.4 Eau du Toilette? Not even the Parfum option? The packaging is a nice but simple style too so idk where they thinking up these prices on par with legacy brands

Re: Thoughts on the Maison Margiela line?

@nlyellows To me, the MM line is derivative and offers ideas executed elsewhere at a lower price point so I think of it as the Zara of the perfume world. I appreciate that it doesn't just churn out more safe fruity florals. To be honest, I wish we saw more of this than the opposite, where high end houses sell derivative, smoothed out versions of an original formula with possibly more expensive ingredients and painful markups. We see this in fashion too but I feel it happens way more often in fragrance.

The fragrance I felt was the best of the MM house was Promenade in the Gardens. It had this chypre-esque thing going on but it must have sold poorly because it seems to be discontinued.

By the Fire Place is my go to. I’ve got the 100 ml, the candle and 30ml for my best friend. I got my girlfriend the beach walk gift set as well.

Re: Thoughts on the Maison Margiela line?

@nlyellows I do see where it's not the least expensive fragrance, but I really enjoy some of their line.  I have Beach Walk, Sailing Day and Coffee Break in the full sizes since I know I'll use them enough.  I have a couple others that I'm not as into in the travel sizes.  The travel size are great to get a feel for a fragrance or if you're going to switch it up a lot.  The price is also a lot better if you can wait for a sale.

Re: Thoughts on the Maison Margiela line?

@nlyellows I own two from the Replica line, Beach Walk and Whispers in the Library. Their longevity isn’t great on skin, but when sprayed on clothes they last a good bit longer. Compared to other EDTs, though, their sillage is pretty good, and the scents are more complex. Is it worth investing in a whole bottle? Doing the math, the 30 ml purse spray is $3/ml, while the 100 ml bottle is $1.30/ml, so if you love a scent and could easily go through a purse spray size, the full bottle is worth it.

Re: Thoughts on the Maison Margiela line?

@nlyellows I only get the travel size sprays because I know I won't be able to finish the regular size.
