Hi all,
I'm looking for eyeshadow recommendations. Something that works great for brownish/green eyes and won't make me look like a raccoon. Most eyeshadows are too pigmented for my skin and end up looking very harsh.
Thanks
I have pale skin and there are a lot of palettes and eye shadows I like. Mostly, I find really good brushes are the difference between getting a natural look, even with very pigmented shadows.
Not in any particular order:
1: Tarte: Tartlette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette
2: Laura Mercier Art Artist's Palette
3: Anastasia Beverly Hills: Modern Renaissance Eye Shadow Palette
... and my favorite go-to for natural look is: Urban Decay Naked3 Palette.
Personally, I love Laura Mercier Single Shadows in Ginger and Cashmere. Ginger is more warm toned and Cashmere is cool toned. The colors are great as base shadows for pale skin. I feel that with a great base shadow, you can make any color work. It is expensive for one shadow, but I encourage you to check it out!
Baby pinks and light greys and taupes look stunning against green eyes without overpowering your natural features. @JamieB18
Anything with a red/pink base will bring out your green eyes. This browns with a pink base, purple, pink. I wear Dior’s purple mascara nearly everyday. It does not look purple, it looks more black with a hint of purple you barely notice. It definitely brings out the green in my eyes.

depends what look you are going for. Soft colors and neutrals always will work if you are the makeup minimalist, as far as looking like a racoon, try experimenting with shadow on and off of your lower lash line.

if you want LESS pigmentation, here are my recommendations:
1. IT cosmetics naturally pretty - I get the feeling you will love this palette. it's mostly matte (with the slightest hint of satin) and the colors are very workable. I love pigmented eyeshadows but even *I* like this palette as it really is just "pretty"
2. Naked 3 - this is my rec only if you have fairer skin. the pigmentation is buildable but if you don't layer it, you'll still end up with a soft and pretty look
3. Too Faced Boudoir Eyes - this one is a bit more pigmented but the colors are soft so I still think you might enjoy it. Also a bit more budget-friendly if you're not "sure" you want to invest in a more costly palette
@JamieB18 I agree with @Alicehoopz's recommendations!
I have green eyes and am super pale in the winter, but I like extra pigmentation/pop in my eyeshadow - I want it to look super obvious and do not aim for a "no makeup" look. However, I've found that anything in the purple, berry, copper and warm brown families looks fabulous with green eyes. The palettes suggested here have some of those shades, but aren't super pigmented.
I also agree with @EvangelineDamon's suggestion of Tartelette in Bloom. Tartelette Toasted is also lovely on green eyes, but seems to pack more of a pigmentation punch! ❤️
I know what you mean, @JamieB18 about certain shadows looking too harsh. Its more about finding the undertones that work with your colouring and what formulas you use.
Tartelette in Bloom is a great palette for neutral and natural looks. The colours blend well and are not muddy.
I also think these particular shades will work beautifully with your eye colour.

Are you looking for pre-made palettes or will single shadows work for you?
Urban Decay single shadow in Laced is a great cool toned transitional shade.
Makeup Forever single shadows in M-518 Nude, M-536 Milk Tea, M-532 Sugar Coated Candy, M-870 Yogurt are all beautiful matte shades that won't be too harsh
Makeup Forever i-804 Golden Pink, i-918 lavender, d-708 pinky copper are all vibrant, beautiful shadows that will not be overwhelming
I love the ABH Modern Renaissance, Tartlette by Tarte, and anything by Ciate London!
xx
I am a big fan of the original Urban Decay Naked palette. I always recommend it to people who are just starting off wearing makeup, or who just want something that is versatile that can easily go from day to night if need be. It have a couple of lighter-toned neutral shades (think light peaches and champagnes), and a couple of matte warm-toned browns that work really nicely in the crease, or all over the eye if you prefer mattes. If you ever want to darken things up a bit, there is a nice silver, darker brown, and a plum shade. I have a huge palette collection, and I always seem to come back to the Naked 1. I hope that this helps! 🙂
I really like the Too Faced Chocolate Bar series for actually not being so BAM pigmented. All the brands these days are coming out with suuuuper buttery soft pigmented shadows that are amazing, yes, but not very beginner friendly or user friendly, considering preference.
I love anything Tarte! Being a fair girl myself, I find myself always reaching for their eyeshadows.
The Too Faced White Chocolate palette is mostly pale neutral colors. It won't give you any intense looks, but if you want a few light colors for a light wash across your lids that won't stand out too much it should be good. I'm also very pale and have green eyes, and though I prefer more intense looks this would be the type of palette I'd grab if I wanted something on the subtler side. Also remember to blend to help get rid of harshness.

I am very fair during the winter myself. I wonder if part of the problem you are having could be finding shadows that suit your undertones not simply light vs dark. Using Magrathea's list (which is a very good start for your search) to illustrate, most of the UD Naked colors (including light ones) look garish on me while a slight majority of the Too Faced colors (including the dark ones) are flattering. By 12 Blueprints color analysis scheme, I have Bright Winter coloring.
