eyeshadow colors with grey hair

I just grew out my hair recently to grey after dying it red for many many years.  This is bringing about a change in how my makeup, and some of my clothing looks now.  I have blue eyes, and am afraid my old go-to warm browns or smoky dark looks are no longer appropriate.  Any suggestions?  Does it matter?

Re: eyeshadow colors with grey hair

Welcome to the Gray club! I joined over 15 years ago and I'm very happy with my silver streaks!

Since you have blue eyes, I bet a nice shimmery taupe would look amazing on you! Many companies have different intense shades but I would go with a more bronzey color for your eyes.

Re: eyeshadow colors with grey hair

I'd suggest getting a palette with cool tones. The Naked 2 and Naked Smoky palettes are great choices. KVD's Shade and light palette also has nice cool and neutral tones. I think you could also rock purple tones and rose gold as well.

Re: eyeshadow colors with grey hair

Thanks!  I do like UD.  Had a Naked 2 a few years back and liked it, but had an unfortunate drop on the tile floor.  Might be time for a replacement.  The Smoky is very appealing!  Looks like I would need to skip 3-4 of the colors, but there are so many others that it would not be a big deal.  I see Kat Von D has a plum that is listed for green eyes, and the smoky looks really nice too.  Bonus is that these are on sale!

I wouldn't shy away from warmer shades if the grey is a bleached-tone. If it's deeper, you may find that some shades will clash. But in that case, why not lean into it with a monochromatic smoky eye? It doesn't have to be a black smoky eye- try dove grey or a plummy purple. Both can lean either neutral or cool.  Attached is an example of a grey smoky eye.  Grey lips with grey smoky eye.Grey lips with grey smoky eye.

Re: eyeshadow colors with grey hair

So pretty!  I am not sure what you mean by a bleach tone, but my hair is of varying tones, pretty much the same as this eye look.  So my fear is of looking too matchy matchy, or of having the grey standing out too much and having my hair look dull. But I will maybe get some cheap stuff to experiment before making a major investment 🙂

Re: eyeshadow colors with grey hair

I forgot to add that golds and coppers also can pop with blue eyes. I'm not sure I would go with the copper though for the same reason you would avoid brown.

Yes!  Golds and coppers look great on me, and this is what is frustrating, because it looked fabulous with my red hair.  Sorry, don't mean to whine.  It is just amazing what a major change going natural has brought about. I have always worn shimmery eyeshadow, and I hear that 'women of my age are not supposed to do this'.  I am not always one to follow rules, but this is the time to invest, so thinking I need to get excited about wearing matte.

Re: eyeshadow colors with grey hair

You know, I heard that about shimmers as well...but I don't think it's quite right. To me matte might give a cakey look. I mean, you don't have to go sparkly, but maybe if it had the barest touch of shimmer it wont highlight wrinkles. I say experiment!

I'm in the same boat so will follow this thread.

Re: eyeshadow colors with grey hair

Yes it does matter! If you use those browns (especially the darker and smokier ones) y

our eyes will look older and tired...you don't want that. You could always use a light sable or champagne color...but blue eyes do well with a black liner...they also do well with pinks on the eyes....there are even pinky browns...you know more pink than brown. But pink makes blue eyes pop!

What about peach?

Re: eyeshadow colors with grey hair

I don't see why not for peach.
