eye shadow primers

whenever i do my eyeshadow it always ends on creasing. whats a good primer for my lids?

Re: eye shadow primers

@AnonymousMy mother and I both love the MAC paintpottery. My mom tried searching for another one since she did not like the application, but however came back to it, since it was the best one and did not crease or feel heavy on the eye lids.

RE: eye shadow primers

Hi are you making sure to set your primer?

Re: eye shadow primers

UD is great, but I've found that Too Faced's Shadow Insurance works much better at holding most of my shadows throughout the day.

Depending on where you are located, weather may be a factor. Oily lids can also play a role. As most mentioned below, Urband Decay's Original primer is great. If I need something absolutely budge proof, Lorac primer is hands down my favorite. You will get 8 to 10 hours out of UD, 12+ from Lorac. Good luck!

I'm with everyone, Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original is the gold standard.

Re: eye shadow primers

I've been using Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion Originaland it seems to be working well so far. I've found using an eye cream at night has also helped quite a bit.

Re: eye shadow primers

Hi,

I am new to eyeshadow primers also.  I got 2 of the best & used one on each eye & it literally did nothing.  I was in a Sephora in Calgary 2 days ago & there was this AMAZING EMPLOYEE named JAYDEN!  I explained the issue and he said he uses 1 thing and ONLY 1, he had his eyeshadow on for 12 hours by this time, he swiped his nicely done lid firmly twice and no Color left his eye and there was NOTHING on his finger.  I guess the magic secret is Too Faced insurance primer!!!  I purchased and will report back, however no other employee really knew what would help including numerous phone calls to Sephora.  This guy is so AWESOME & I would LOVE to give him a stellar review, I think he should be teaching other Sephora employees and deserves a promotion - how nice to get the problem solved so easily, I literally wish I had him on speed dial!!!!!!!

Hi @katiefarmer45,

I recommend checking out NARS Pro-Prime™ Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base Original.  It is a great eyeshadow primer that keeps powder and cream eyeshadows on and and last all day.  I got this as a sample and ended up purchasing the full size!

I hope this helps!

Best,

Steph

Re: eye shadow primers

I second the NARS pro prime!!!

Re: eye shadow primers

In addition to the Urban Decay, I like the SMASHBOX - 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer.

Yes ma'am !! I am with you on this one. while I looove UD...

Yes ma'am !! I am with you on this one. while I looove UD, smashbox does right by me too. I love a cut crease and when u layer concealer on smashbox,it comes out very smooth

Re: eye shadow primers

One of my favorite primers is from Pretty Vulgar, their Uncaged eyeshadow primer helps if you have oily eyelids which I think is what wears down the eyeshadow the most.

Its also good if you use fine pigments or glitter!

Hope that helps!

Re: eye shadow primers

@Anonymous I love MAC Prep and Prime 24 Hour Eye Base

Re: eye shadow primers

I might be in the minority, but I find eyeshadow primer to be a waste of money unless I'm using a glitter. I prefer to pat concealer onto my lids and set it with translucent powder. If you definitely want to try a primer, I recommend the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion Original,or if you're ok with drugstore, the Milani primer.

Re: eye shadow primers

I've tried numerous products and always go back to Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion Original

Re: eye shadow primers

Hi All!

I just wanted to add:  I had gotten the holiday blockbusters from Lancôme, I asked the girl if the eyeshadow palette in them, would be the same consistency as the regular Lancôme pots, which the ones I use, I love and I have never needed an eyeshadow primer.  I don’t have oily skin, I have dry, dry & super dry skin.  They said it was the same, loved colors in each, got a few.  This year they had an eyeshadow palette in each, however it was not the same texture it was kind of creamy - which I don’t use usually as they never seem to last.  Trying to make it work, I got a couple eyeshadow primers: I got the Smashbox & the new Nars one (the ones tagged in replies above), seriously I used Smashbox on one, Nars on the other & it made zero difference.  I will try them in the future with other shadows, who knows, maybe it’s the eyeshadow?  My next stop was going to be the Urban Decay one, however, as previously stated, I got lucky and found someone who knew their stuff & I got the Too Faced Shadow insurance - & I will report how it goes.  Someone made a comment about setting the primer, I had been looking into that too & asked “my SUPER STAR Sephora guy Jayden”, he said not to bother with it & all you need is Too Faced eyeshadow insurance.  I will be trying & update you all soon!

✌🏻, SuzQJ
