Under Eye Concealer

Hello everyone!  I recently purchased  NARS Mini Radiant Creamy Concealer with Medium Coverage Nougatine . It blends into my skin perfectly and it really helps my circles, but doesn't completely take them away. I learned that I was supposed to choose a shade or two lighter for under my eyes, but I am struggling to find which shade that would be!

Thank you!

Re: Under Eye Concealer

Hi @Anonymous!

With concealer for brightening, I found that the undertone color doesn't really matter as long as it's 2 shades lighter than your foundation.  I use foundation with warm undertones but use a brightening concealer with cool undertones and it still blends nicely!  This was what the Sephora MUA taught me during the Makeup 101 Class.

For covering dark circles, you want to use the "color wheel" to find the best color correctors.

Re: Under Eye Concealer

My circles just look black to me. 😂 But I will definitely take a better look at them in the daylight to see, because I don't think I ever thought to really look at their color too much. Thank you so much! That is so helpful. I don't wear foundation, or at least I don't yet. I am learning. Other than my circles, I have pretty good skin. I don't break out often and I don't have any uneven coloration. My under eye circles have always been something I am really self-conscious about. Now that I am starting to get fine lines under my eyes, that is worse than ever, so I'm trying to find some solutions to make me feel and look better instead of like a tired zombie!

Super jealous that you have nice skin!  I wish I could go without full coverage foundation and concealer.  If you have nice skin overall, you could use a light coverage foundation, tinted moisturizer, BB or CC cream.  My favorite light coverage foundation is Dior BACKSTAGE Face & Body Foundation 3 Warm (not this color).  I absolutely loved how weightless and skin like it felt but unfortunately for me, it didn't help cover my blemishes.

For wrinkles, you can try a retinol cream.  I would start with products with a smaller percentage in it if you're just starting out and work your way up as your skin gets used to it.  They have separate retinol creams for face and eyes.

Re: Under Eye Concealer

@RAWRitsRED Sorry for passing out on you last night! I decided to try a BB cream that claims to help with dark circles. I watched some youtubers use it and they all claimed it helped immensely. So I'll try that first and then try some light coverage foundation!! I appreciate all of your advice so much. I learned a lot by talking to you! I will definitely save that foundation to try whenever I have some money. haha! I've spent a FORTUNE this week buying makeup and need to slow down now.

I feel so nervous to try retinol, but it's definitely time. The lines under my eyes need some help! I will definitely start looking into that too. Thank you again!!

Glad I could help!  I know what you mean about spending a ton on skincare and makeup products!  It's like once I start buying I keep buying!

There are a lot of products/ ingredients that you can't use with retinol like salicylic acid, vitamin c, AHA/BHA, etc. so you'd have to be careful for that.  Good luck!

Re: Under Eye Concealer

Oh boy, that is a lot. I'll definitely have to keep that in mind!

Re: Under Eye Concealer

@Anonymous @You might need a peach or salmon color corrector to help make the circles less visible

Re: Under Eye Concealer

Really? I kept seeing many youtubers using correctors, but I was talked out of it. I will definitely have to look into those! Thank you!!

Re: Under Eye Concealer

@Anonymous--    It's really important to know the color of your circles, to find the right solution. But starting with what you have, let small dots of your concealer sit a moment, so they start to dry out a little, before you blend them gently. This is a great method for getting more coverage out of certain concealers, and I know/have used Nars creamy, it works well with this method.

Then when your concealer is fully dry, use a finely milled powder like ELF HD, or their under-eye setting powder (not the yellow one) or if you have something like Tarte's Smooth Operator, brushed lightly over to set and hold-- this will also actually help disguise fine lines! I'm in my 50s, I deal with lines, deep purple undereye crescents, and now puffiiness, too, so I get it.

Re: Under Eye Concealer

I will definitely try letting them it dry a little bit before I blend tomorrow! Thank you so much for that tip! I can't wait to try it!

Powder I definitely need to get. How do you apply it? With a brush or with a beauty blender? I'm 28 and my fine lines are getting a little bit terrible because I'm so dry. I tried this eye care system from Avon and it made it so much worse. I'm hoping they'll recover, but I only stopped using it a few days ago, so we'll see! I have deep purple crescents too. I've had dark circles always, but sleepless college nights are definitely not helping me out!
