Two different eyelid shapes

Hello!

So I'm 21 years old and I'm very interested in make-up but found it all to be too intimidating for me. One of the reasons why is because of my eyelids. They're two different shapes and I have no idea how to approach even doing them. I've reached out to people before and wasn't really given much advice so I'm hoping all you beautiful women can give me some tips and pointers.

Two different eyelid shapes

@Anonymous I have found that in addition to bringing the crease color higher on my hooded eye, it also helps to stay away from a "pop of shimmer" on the center of the lid because different amounts of shimmer will be visible when my eyes are open and it highlights the difference between my lids. Shimmer across the whole lid or from the inner eye to middle eye looks fine. I also stay away from letting my eyeliner get too thick, on my hooded eye it will be all you see if it gets too crazy.

Re: Two different eyelid shapes

@Anonymous I understand how you feel. I have one eyelid that is double lid and hooded and the other one is mono lid. I’ve tried watching YouTube tutorials but have only found a few that have helped. Throughout the years I’ve just learned to compensate for the mono lid eye. I bring my eyeshadow up higher above the crease for the mono lid. I also have to be careful with lining my eye and using an eyeliner that will last. I would also suggest investing in good eyeshadow brushes or finding ones that will work well with your eye shape. For mine, I’ve found that the smaller brushes work better.  I would also recommend watching a YouTuber/instagram with your eye shape and follow their tutorials. I hope that helps. You have beautiful eyes and lid space! Good luck!

Re: Two different eyelid shapes

@Anonymous I have two different shapes as well, one is hooded and slightly downturned and the other is more traditionally almond but slightly hooded. Makes things like eyeliner quite challenging! I have found the easiest thing for me is to stay away from dramatic looks because they won’t turn out even. Daily I don’t wear much eye makeup at all anyway, just a nude shade of eyeshadow and some mascara, so it’s usually not a big deal. If I want to use more shadow or use liner, I need to keep it within the confines of my natural line and my upper lid. I also don’t carry color too far passed my crease. With a hidden eyelid, you can play up your lower lid too! If you want some drama or color, lining your lower lashes with eyeliner or shadow is a fun and easy way to do that.

Re: Two different eyelid shapes

@Anonymous I know how you feel.  I have one eyelid that is a double lid and the other is a monolid and it drives me crazy.  It got to the point where when I was younger I would use tape and put it on my crease so that my eyelids would be the same.  Now, I just accept the fact that I'm not going to get surgery to make them the same.  I just try my best to create a crease with eye shadow so that it doesn't make it too obvious that my eyelids are different.

Looking at the picture, I see what you are talking about but it isn't so obvious until you pointed it out.  You have great lid space and I think you should practice eyeshadow placement on different areas of your eyelid to see what would look best for your eyes.  Or you could go to a makeup counter and ask them for help that way you can learn along the way.
