Mascara Thread

Hey everyone! I figured that we really need a mascara thread to post anything about mascara. Favorite products, worst experiences, best deals, you name it!

Re: Mascara Thread

my top three FAVORITE mascaras are:

Pretty Vulgars

Urban Decays

Too Faced

RE: Mascara Thread

I am in love with the Lancôme Monsieur Big mascara atm. It is the blackest mascara I have, and I like the slight spidery effect it gives. Anyone have any dupes?

Re: Mascara Thread

I so LOVE Clinique Flutter-to- Full mascara. It is just so wonderful. I got a free sample of it, and I was hooked from day 1. I cannot believe how amazingly full and long it makes my lashes. I know I sound like an ad, but it is true. And with the adjustment, it is perfect even for my lower lashes. I'm in love.

my favourite every day is the buxom, never flakes or transfers! plus I do think it's helping my lashes grow better. if I'm going for a more dramatic look I LOVE the Armani eyes to kill. the wand is a bit weird and took some practicing to get it right, but two coats and I look like I'm wearing false lashes. I tried the tarte lights camera lashes but I felt like it just flaked off all over my face!

Re: Mascara Thread

I’ve been wearing IT cosmetics superhero mascara with lash food primer. I’ve been very happy with it. I disliked IT’s hello lashes as it would smudge right below my brow during the day. I got superhero as a GWP so gave it a shot.  Others I’ve tried that also smudged included givenchy noir 4 in 1 (sad about this one as they looked amazingly otherwise) and  Tarte lights camera lashes. Has anyone else had this issue with mascaras?  It’s kind of funny unless I forget to check for goofy smudges before meetings.

RE: Mascara Thread

So I have literally used Christian Dior Dior Show last priner and Mascara for 10 years now and have absolutely loved it. Every time I try a different one I come back to Dior in the end. It works! I have been intrigued lately with the idea of a perfect lash cocktail of mixing layers of different mascaras that are famous for accomplishing different things to create the perfect mascara. Like a volume mascara paired with a thickening mascara. I am going to try out some of my mascara samples layered with Dior Show this week to see if it does anything “new” at all to my typical look....oh and last thought, eyelash primer is a must!! It’s amazing the dramatic difference I see when I use my eyelash primer versus days that I don’t!!

Re: RE: Mascara Thread

@KrishAtl  What does the primer do to make a difference ?

Re: RE: Mascara Thread

#femman I actually have what I think are long lashes so I was sure that eyelash primer was “a trap” to get you to spend more.  Now, I can’t speak about all eyelash primers on the market, but the Dior primer works wonders for me.  I see a noticeable difference as soon as I put it on.  You can not wear it by itself, as it does leave a noticeable white coat on your lashes, but I also have black eyelashes, so maybe if you have lighter lashes naturally, it won’t be so noticeable.  Anyway, I also have never let it completely dry so I don’t know if it actually dries clear or not.  What it does do is completely coat each lash and pull them out visibly longer.  There are some conditioning properties to it, but I have never felt like my lashes really needed to be conditioned??!  The extra coating around each lash has helped dramatically with the overall plumping look of my lashes, for sure.  On days when I don’t use the primer, my lashes are meh, (nice and long, but not showstopping) compared to the look of them with primer.  Now, unfortunately, in the end, fake lashes have taken the showstopping standard to a whole new level, but minus fake lashes, this does the trick!

Re: RE: Mascara Thread

Thanks @KrishAtl  This would be something I would use on my non stealth days.

RE: Mascara Thread

I know I’m probably in the minority, but the best for me has been Bad Gal Bang with the Subversion primer. It’s really wet, so I have to take my time but it brings the length/volume for my stumpy lashes. Before that, my ultimate was Better than Sex.

Re: Mascara Thread

okay seriously the most underrated mascara is Pretty Vulgars!!! its so good its like a combination of Better Than Sex and Urban Decays Perversion

Re: Mascara Thread

@Abbylovedove Pretty vulgar is so...pretty!  I am considering buying one just because it would be lovely sitting on the counter.

Mascara Thread

I bought the Tartes Light Camera Lashes on sale at ulta for 10 dollars and ended up hating it. someone told me it was better than you faced better than sex. Anyway it got everywhere and didn't add any volume it was just like adding dye to my lashes. I tried it about 3 to 4 times now and I just can't seem to love it. My favorite is Too Faced Better Than Sex and honestly I dont believe anything can top it

Re: Mascara Thread

I am literally in love with 2 different mascaras right now:

Better than Sex from Too Faced

And Estee Lauder (gold bottle idk if it has a name or not)

They can do me no wrong

Re: Mascara Thread

Mascara - love it, hate it. I have fine, straight and sparse lashes. The lash fairy was sleeping when they hand out nice lashes. My current favorite is Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir or Stila Huge Extreme.  I use 2 coats.  If I use 3 for a more dramatic, full look then I have to comb to prevent clumping.  I also love the MJ O!Mega Lash (the brush is perfect for my small lashes) - but it starts drier than most and dries out quicker, I only get 1-2 months out of it.

Most of the mascara everyone loves always seem to fail me, drugstore included. The worst for me, Guerlain Maxilash Curling and Volumizing.  It seemed to be more waxy than others and left a wax coating on my contact lenses.

Re: Mascara Thread

How do you comb your lashes? And can you use the brush you like with the other mascara ?

Re: Mascara Thread

I think that you should be able to wash and re-use your old wands using makeup remover, or even something like dawn.  I have seen this suggested online. You would just have to wash it every single time you wanted to use it, because the air will dry out the product on the wand. I have tried this a few times, and it just becomes time consuming.  I also worry about potential bacteria, or cross-contaminating my products with soap or something.

Re: Mascara Thread

I'm new to this but I have been using L'Oreal Lash Paradise and really like it. If anyone has any suggestions  I am willing to learn

Re: Mascara Thread

I really like the L'Oreal lash paradise mascara as well. When I want more basic lashes I like to use Covergirl full lash bloom. When I really want lots of volume though, I love Too Faced better than sex.

Re: Mascara Thread

Hi @LippiePrincess, Would you know of any drugstore brands that would add that volume ?
