RE: How to do your eyeshadow

Do you apply the primer before or after setting with powder?

Re: How to do your eyeshadow

Eyeshadow primer! Already said but I'll say it again lol. When I first started doing makeup this made a huge difference. With my eyelids, no primer means I get 2 hours absolute max from eyeshadow before it's a mess. A good eyeshadow primer means it lasts all day. If you're looking for drugstore, Milani or NYX are good options. Higher end, I'm partial to UD. If you like shimmer shadows, Too Faced glitter glue primer is also a great option. I also prefer to set my primer with a translucent powder to get my eyelids smooth for eyeshadows over top.

You'll need some brushes. If I were to select my absolutely necessary brushes for eyeshadow, it would be a crease brush (for crease and blending), a small flat brush (for laying down color on the lid), and a small pencil brush (for details and adding in darker colors). IT brushes at Ulta are my favorite, but Real Techniques also has some quality brushes for cheap.

As far as tutorials, look for images or youtubers that have a similar eye shape to you. Because not all eyeshadow looks are gonna look the same on differnet eye shapes. You'll have to experiment to see what looks work best for you and practice.

Has  you checked out some tutorials?  Primer, color placement and which order you apply, and brush characteristics (size, length) are all crucial

I agree with @Anonymous that primer is a great start. It will help you with keeping the shadows on all day. Additionally, a translucent powder will help blend shades.

This is a good guide. 1 is your main lid shade, and 2 is your blending shade. Typically your blending shade is a color close to your skin tone. It adds a bit of dimension. You can lay down that blending shade lightly first, then your main lid shade. Then you can use a clean brush (typically a brush labeled blending brush) to lightly blend the two colors together.

Re: How to do your eyeshadow

As stated before, an eyeshadow primer is a MUST.

But another thing, a good blending brush will change your life-- my current personal favorite is the Sigma E25! Take your time and don't hold the brushes like you would a pencil, hold them closer to the end and use a light hand.

Primer is a must! And when it comes to blending take your time and I like to start with lighter shades first and than make my way to the darker shades. Less is always better, you can always add more but to take some off is a hassle. Using different brushes for different shades also helps. Good luck😘
