How long do you keep your eyeshadow palettes?

Just curious to hear the longest you guys hold onto your eye-shadows for. I try to keep my palettes down to a minimum because I am scared that I won't be able to go through them all before they go bad!

Most eyeshadow palettes have an month marked on it for how long the company suggest you keep it after opening and this is based on the ingredients used in those shadows. The worst things that could happen would be that some shadows become dry and dusty, and others can lose pigmentation or sort of change it’s color. The oldest palette I own and still use to this day would be my Naked 1 which I’ve had since 2013. I’ve seen no problems with it or any others that I’ve bought since then. While I have heard of people having to get rid of eyeshadows because of the reasons I’ve listed, I do know that many more people are able to keep them much longer without any issues! So I understand your concerns but I don’t see it as something to worry too much about as long as you’re keeping your brushes clean and storing your makeup properly (:

Thanks for the response! I haven't noticed anything like that with my older palettes yet, so I must be fine. The Naked palettes seem to hold up pretty well I've noticed. I am hoping that my tartelette palette will hold up as well as my other ones.

Sometimes palettes can also grow bacteria, which you should consider. I have just as old palettes and my eyes have not developed any irritation or anything, but something to keep in mind. Also a reason to clean your brushes 😉
