Holiday Help

I am extremely new to this whole makeup thing (even in high school i very rarely wore anything other than mascara and lip gloss) and have my company Christmas party coming up. I'd really like to do a more intense look but there are so many different palettes out there I'm not sure what would be the best one to get. Can anyone offer any tips or suggestions? Thank you!

Re: Holiday Help

Hi Megbrown,

I like GG84’s suggestion of getting your makeup done, then purchasing the product.  However I suppose, since you were talking about which palette, it may be a good idea to have something in mind, prior to going in.  I am not sure if you need help in the other areas, (foundation, possibly concealer, blush, mascara, mascara primer etc.?)

Please respond if you do.  If you’re going for a more intense look, but aren’t used to wearing much makeup, want something on the easier side, maybe something you might feel more comfortable in, great product, great palette, great price point, etc.

I would probably suggest Too Faced Chocolate Gold Eyeshadow Palette.  It has beautiful silvers and golds, which I Love all year but are definitely great at Christmas, also many options for you to choose, you don’t even have to do much to get that “more intense look”, that you’re looking for.  It also comes with a booklet that has a few looks and step by step instructions on how to do it.  If you want you could even use the gorgeous silver or gold on your lower lid with a very subtle colour on your main upper lid area (just to be an easy option if you wish).  You could either use Lancôme CILS Mascara primer (you can get this with a pucrchase of Lancôme mascara), then apply your mascara and your mascara would go on so well you wouldn’t even need eyeliner, however if you wanted eyeliner I would suggest only going from the outer edge of your eye to the middle as this would really open your eyes and make them so beautiful especially with a silver or gold eyeshadow.  I would highly recommend the Lancôme dual finish highlighter (I am fair, so Shimmering Buff colour 01 is great for me  - check them out to see what would be great for you), you said you’re not huge into makeup and this highlighter is PERFECT & a little goes a long way and you will be extra gorgeous without feeling like you have too much on.  Try your look before the big day & please respond with any other questions & if you need help with foundation or blush or whichever.  Hope this helps & best of luck!

Re: Holiday Help

Hi @Anonymous It depends on what you are comfortable with! Have you thought of booking an appointment at your local Sephora to get your make up done for the party? It's $50, and you can purchase in product. So if you really like the eye look the artist did, pick up the products they used so you can duplicate on your own 😉

RE: Holiday Help

Look into the Naked Palette. It has a nice range of matte and shimmer but also very easy to do a natural look or an intense smokey eye with that palette. Plus it’s being discontinued so you can get it cheaper

Re: RE: Holiday Help

I second this comment! Urban Decay's Naked palettes are great for first-time eye makeup experimenters. The Urban Decay Naked3 Soft Pink Eyeshadow Palette Naked3has a lot of shades that are in right now, but it's easier to use than some other rose-toned palettes. It looks good on pretty much anyone, and the warm colors can brighten up your look in the cold winter seasons. I find that it blends really easily, especially on top of the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion Original. Can't recommend it enough!

Re: Holiday Help

@Anonymous There are a ton of palettes out there.  I guess it would depend on what colors you are looking for as well as your budget you want to spend.  I think a great makeup look for Christmas or any event is old school glam.  Soft eye look with a fierce wing liner and false lashes, a blinding or dewy highlight with a pink blush and a red lip.
