I need some help deciding on a mascara. I have been considering the DIOR Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Waterproof Mascara Black since I saw a YouTube video where it was used. However, I also
See many people love
Hourglass Caution™ Extreme Lash Mascara Standard Size Black - 0.33 oz/ 9.4 g
Any thoughts on these two ( or even other mascaras) that will help me make a decision would be appreciated!! Thanks
If I have to choose between the 2 then I go with the Dior one 😉 I don’t like the Hourglass one and I think whoever designed the handle/tube should be fired. It is big, bulky and awkward to hold and for that reason I have hard time to get into my lashes around the corner of my eyes. I guess it should not be a problem with ppl who have natural long lashes. For the ppl with almost nonexistent lashes liked me it’s a big no-no. The product itself is okay. At the moment I like Chanel Le Volume the most.
I didn't find the Hourglass Caution to be life-changing, but it was among the best performing high-end mascaras I've tried. On me it lived up to its claim of not flaking or smudging, and still came off easily at the end of the day. The biggest drawback is the handle, which is a bit big and unwieldy. I haven't tried the Diorshow Iconic, so I can't make a direct comparison, but I've preferred the Hourglass over Pat McGrath (heavily fragranced and smudges quickly), Lancome Monsieur Big (tough to remove and takes out my eyelashes), Urban Decay Perversion (too wet and clumpy), and Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir (not effective) off the top of my head.
I have to throw three drugstore favorites in the ring: CoverGirl Exhibitionist, L'Oreal Lash Paradise (*not* the waterproof version), and the best value of all, Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect (the green tube).
I agree with @cianni 's suggestion of the Lashstash set! It's a great way to try multiple products.
@tastelikewater the waterproof versions of great mascaras never live up to the original, I don’t know why!! That sucks about the lash paradise waterproof. I believe it’s a dupe for the BTS and that waterproof one was so horrible, it was clumpy and messy and wouldn’t dry down. I had more on my eyelid than on my lashes 🙄
@cianni I've had success with some waterproof formulas - CoverGirl Clump Crusher remains my favorite for natural, everyday lashes - but the Lash Paradise was a mess. I've never had such a difficult time removing a mascara before! Even after a double-cleanse and eye makeup remover, I'd still find traces of it and smears under my eyes the next morning. I've actually had that problem with every L'Oreal and Lancome mascara I've ever used. Grrrrrrrrrrrr.
You can never go wrong with L’Oréal Lash Paradise @ParrotTulips It’s an old but a goody
@femman @ParrotTulips I’ve been using the L’Oréal lash primer (which I got in a set with a lash paradise) and it’s been so good to help a mediocre mascara do better 😂 as for mascaras, I’m doing a low buy this year so I’m trying to work through my seemingly never ending stash of minis and DS.
Conclusions so far:
i LOVE the TOO FACED - Better Than Sex Mascaraive been using it for a while and I always end up coming back. The waterproof version is a horrendous mess though - I wouldn’t go near it. other loves - MILK MAKEUP - KUSH High Volume Mascara, L’Oréal lash paradise.
just okay - tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes™ 4-in-1 Mascara Black i liked it fine, but it took like 5 coats before I had the desired effect which took a long time to do and Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Curling & Lifting Mascara Black same comments as the Tarte. I didn’t find it to really do much for curling though.
dislikes - Smashbox Super Fan Lash Lengthening Mascara Standard Size Black - 0.33 oz/ 10 mL
I’m working through this right now and omg I hate the brush, the effects, all of it. I don’t find that it makes the whole lash dark, so I have this weird wispy effect at the top. I’ve been using lash primer to make it work.
still left to try - NARS Climax Volumizing Mascara Explicit Black and Benefit Cosmetics They're Real! Lengthening Mascara Black
@cianni @Anonymous Thanks for the recommendations. Wallet friendly AND tried and true are always a great idea!
@ParrotTulips I would definitely recommend the SEPHORA FAVORITES - Lashstash To Gobecause you can try a bunch and then redeem for a FS of the one you like! The current set has a couple good ones in there, plus the hourglass you asked about (and the price is the same as one FS would have run you anyways so the dollar value is good)
I love lash stash kits too @cianni! Let me know when you try They're Real! I'm currently using it and have had a good experience. The bristles on the top of the wand tend to collect too much product so I wipe it off before using.
The brush is amazing - it gets right at the roots and you can forget about wiggling your mascara. It stays put, doesn't clump and is just my favorite yet!
@Jbird1999 The Wander Beauty Mile High Mascara is my favorite current mascara. It's so underrated. I don't even need a mascara primer underneath and it doesn't smear on me. <333
I agree! I was so impressed right away! Now I'm looking into the line, too.
Ahh hi my love @Jbird1999 so nice to see you back on here!!
@ParrotTulips I didn't like the Hourglass mascara either. It didn't do anyhting for my lashes. I do love YVES SAINT LAURENT - The Shock Volumizing Mascara and Lancôme Monsieur Big Volumizing Mascara Standard Size Black - 0.33 oz/ 10 mL
Great, I have a sample of that so I’ll try it out 🙂
@ParrotTulips I was deeply disappointed with Hourglass Caution™ Extreme Lash Mascara Standard Size Black - 0.33 oz/ 9.4 g
It did nothing for me and I threw it out after one use. My trusted favorites are Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes Volume 2 Mascara Black Vinyl Vol 2
I agree, Hourglass didn't work for me, it's difficult to hold even though I do love the brush and the formula is pretty darn good.
I love Tart's Light, Camera, Action. That has always been a winner for me, I should just stick with that and stop spending money on others... but I probably won't.
Also, I bought the waterproof version of UD Perversion this summer because I do like their regular Perversion mascara but the waterproof version is just bizarre and frustrating. The formula is thin, doesn't make your lashes look longer or thicker and is not buildable. I had to use several coats just to make it show up - its nothing like the regular version. Good mascara makes me feel so much better about life!! 🙂
I will look into those! That’s too bad about the Hourglass mascara, as I’ve typically had good luck with their products. I’ll be sure to steer clear of it. Thank you for sharing!
